Description
- This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 62/384,249 filed on Sep. 7, 2016. The above identified patent application is herein incorporated by reference in its entirety to provide continuity of disclosure.
- The present invention relates to head coverings. More specifically, the present invention provides a wig cap that is configured to prevent damage to the scalp and hair follicles when the wig cap is worn underneath a wig or other type of head covering.
- Many individuals wear wigs, skull caps, or other types of head coverings. Such head coverings are typically secured around the wearer's head and scalp. These head coverings can cause friction between themselves and the wearer's scalp. The friction can cause sweating, irritation, and may exacerbate dry skin or other skin conditions. Wigs in particular can include an inner lining that can cause itching and irritation when worn. Further, individuals experiencing hair loss may lose more hair due to the wig damaging the hair follicles. Some existing head coverings also include solid material that does not allow airflow to the scalp. This can cause sweat buildup and lead to further irritation. In view of the above, it is desirable to provide a wig cap that includes a mesh portion for breathability and an interior surface that prevents damage to the scalp and hair follicles while providing comfort to the wearer.
- In light of the devices disclosed in the prior art, it is submitted that the present invention substantially diverges in design elements from the prior art and consequently it is clear that there is a need in the art for an improvement to existing wig caps. In this regard the present invention substantially fulfills these needs.
- In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known types of wig caps now present in the prior art, the present invention provides a wig cap wherein the same can be utilized for providing convenience for the user when protecting the scalp and hair follicles while wearing a wig or other head covering. The wig cap includes an annular band comprising an upper edge, a lower edge, an inner layer, and an outer layer. A crown portion includes a first edge and a second edge. The first edge of the crown portion is connected to the upper edge of the annular band. A mesh includes a first edge connected to the second edge of the crown portion and a second edge connected to the upper edge of the annular band. The mesh portion is configured to contact a rear area and side areas of a wearer's head when worn thereon, and the crown portion is configured to contact a crown area of a wearer's head when worn thereon.
- One object of the present invention is to provide a wig cap that prevents damage to the scalp and hair follicles.
- Another object of the present invention is to provide a wig cap that includes a mesh portion that permits airflow to the scalp.
- Other objects, features, and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
- Although the characteristic features of this invention will be particularly pointed out in the claims, the invention itself and manner in which it may be made and used may be better understood after a review of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like numeral annotations are provided throughout.
-
FIG. 1 shows a perspective view of the wig cap being worn by an individual according to one embodiment of the present invention. -
FIG. 2 shows a rear view of the wig cap being worn by an individual according to one embodiment of the present invention. -
FIG. 3 shows a cross-sectional view of the wig cap according to one embodiment of the present invention. - Reference is made herein to the attached drawings. Like reference numerals are used throughout the drawings to depict like or similar elements of the wig cap. For the purposes of presenting a brief and clear description of the present invention, the preferred embodiment will be discussed as used for providing a comfortable wig cap that prevents damage to the scalp and hair follicles. The figures are intended for representative purposes only and should not be considered to be limiting in any respect.
- Referring now to
FIGS. 1 and 2 , there is shown a perspective view of a wig cap being worn by an individual and a rear view of a wig cap being worn by an individual, respectively. Thewig cap 10 includes anannular band 12 having anupper edge 21, alower edge 16, an inner layer, and an outer layer. Theannular band 12 defines the shape of thewig cap 10 and is sized to fit around a wearer'shead 101 such that theannular band 12 is positioned above and behind the wearer's ears. In the shown embodiment, thelower edge 16 of theannular band 12 includes a plurality of ridges 31 extending downwardly therefrom. The plurality of ridges 31 allow sweat and moisture to be wicked away from the wearer's scalp. In the shown embodiment, the plurality of ridges 31 are spaced equally from each other so that moisture will be evenly and uniformly removed from the scalp area. - A
crown portion 11 is configured to be positioned over the crown area of the wearer'shead 101 when thewig cap 10 is worn. Thecrown portion 11 includes afirst edge 17 that is connected to theupper edge 21 of theannular band 12. Thecrown portion 11 includes a solid fabric material having no apertures or cutouts thereon. Thecrown portion 11 can be made from silk, satin, or any other material that is soft and has a low coefficient of friction. In the illustrated embodiment, areinforcement band 15 is disposed on asecond edge 27 of thecrown portion 11. Thereinforcement band 15 provides additional structural support to thewig cap 10 and helps to prevent thewig cap 10 from being torn or otherwise damaged. Thereinforcement band 15 can be sewn onto thesecond edge 27 of thecrown portion 11 or may otherwise be attached via a fastener, such as hook and loop material. - The
wig cap 10 includes amesh portion 14 configured to be positioned about a rear area and side areas of the wearer'shead 101 when thewig cap 10 is worn. Themesh portion 14 includes afirst edge 23 connected to thesecond edge 27 of thecrown portion 11 and asecond edge 25 connected to theupper edge 21 of theannular band 12. Themesh portion 14 includes a plurality ofapertures 24 in order to permit airflow to the scalp. In the shown embodiment, the plurality ofapertures 24 each include a common diameter, which causes the airflow to all areas of the scalp to be consistent and uniform, thus allowing for homogenous cooling of the scalp. - Referring now to
FIG. 3 , there is shown a cross-sectional view of the wig cap. Theannular band 12 includes aninner layer 22 that contacts the wearer's scalp and anouter layer 32. Theouter layer 32 includes an elastic material in order to effectively secure thewig cap 10 to the wearer's head. Theinner layer 22 includes a material such as silk, satin, or any other suitable material that provides comfort to the wearer while preventing irritation to the scalp or hair follicles. Themesh portion 14 is connected to theannular band 12, and is further connected to thecrown portion 11. In the shown embodiment, themesh portion 14 is directly attached to thereinforcement band 15 of thecrown portion 11. In this way, thereinforcement band 15 improves the overall structural strength of thewig cap 10 by providing a common attachment point for thecrown portion 11 and themesh portion 14. - It is therefore submitted that the instant invention has been shown and described in what is considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiments.
