Abstract
A sleeping pillow assembly includes a pillow that has a plurality of cushions. A selected one of the cushions may support a head of a user while the user sleeps. The pillow has a pair of flattened portions and each of the flattened portions is distributed between the cushions. A selected one of the flattened portions may have an arm of the user positioned beneath the selected flattened portion. Thus, the user's arm is laterally spaced from the user's head when the user sleeps thereby inhibiting the user from lying directly on the user's arm.
Description
- The disclosure relates to pillow devices and more particularly pertains to a new pillow device for inhibiting a user's arm from falling asleep when a user sleeps.
- An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a pillow that has a plurality of cushions.
- There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.
- The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.
- The disclosure will be better understood and objects other than those set forth above will become apparent when consideration is given to the following detailed description thereof. Such description makes reference to the annexed drawings wherein:
-
FIG. 1 is a top perspective view of a sleeping pillow assembly according to an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 2 is a right side view of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 3 is a bottom view of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 4 is a cross sectional view taken along line 4-4 ofFIG. 3 of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 5 is a perspective in-use view of an embodiment of the disclosure. - With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to
FIGS. 1 through 5 thereof, a new pillow device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by thereference numeral 10 will be described. - As best illustrated in
FIGS. 1 through 5 , thesleeping pillow assembly 10 generally comprises apillow 12 that has a plurality ofcushions 14. A selected one of thecushions 14 may support ahead 16 of auser 18 while theuser 18 sleeps. Thepillow 12 has a pair offlattened portions 20 and theflattened portions 20 are distributed between thecushions 14. Anarm 22 of theuser 18 may be positioned beneath a selected one of theflattened portions 20 when theuser 18 sleeps. The user'sarm 22 is laterally spaced from the user'shead 16 when theuser 18 sleeps. - The
pillow 12 has atop surface 24, abottom surface 26, a firstlateral edge 28 and a secondlateral edge 30. Thetop surface 24 corresponding to each of thecushions 14 is concavely arcuate with respect to a line extending through the firstlateral edge 28 and the secondlateral edge 30. Thebottom surface 26 corresponding to each of thecushions 14 is concavely arcuate with respect to the line. Thus, each of thecushions 14 has an ovoid cross section taken perpendicular to the line. - Each of the
cushions 14 is positioned between thetop surface 24 and thebottom surface 26 of thepillow 12. Each of the plurality ofcushions 14 is comprised of a resiliently compressible material thereby enhancing comfort of thepillow 12. The plurality ofcushions 14 includes acentral cushion 32, a firstlateral cushion 34 and a secondlateral cushion 36. - The
central cushion 32 is centrally positioned on thepillow 12. The firstlateral cushion 34 is coextensive with the firstlateral edge 28. The secondlateral cushion 36 is coextensive with the secondlateral edge 30. Each of the firstlateral cushion 34 and the secondlateral cushion 36 are spaced from thecentral cushion 32. - Each of the first
lateral cushion 34 and the secondlateral cushion 36 has an inwardly facingedge 38. The inwardly facingedge 38 corresponding to the firstlateral cushion 34 is concavely arcuate with respect to the firstlateral edge 28. Thus, the firstlateral cushion 34 has a semi-ovoid shape. The inwardly facingedge 38 corresponding to the secondlateral cushion 36 is concavely arcuate with respect to the secondlateral edge 30. Thus, the secondlateral cushion 36 has a semi-ovoid shape. - Each of the
flattened portions 20 is positioned between thecentral cushion 32 and an associated one of the firstlateral cushion 34 and the secondlateral cushion 36. Each of theflattened portions 20 comprises apanel 40 positioned between thetop surface 24 and thebottom surface 26 of thepillow 12. Thepanel 40 corresponding to each of theflattened portions 20 is comprised of a resiliently compressible material. - The
bottom surface 26 corresponding to each of thecentral cushion 32, the firstlateral cushion 34 and the secondlateral cushion 36 may be positioned on asupport surface 42. Thebottom surface 26 corresponding to each of theflattened portions 20 is spaced from thesupport surface 42. Thus, a pair ofnegative spaces 44 is defined between thepillow 12 and thesupport surface 42. Thesupport surface 42 may comprise a sleeping bed or the like. - The user's
head 16 may rest upon thetop surface 24 corresponding to a selected one of thecushions 14 when theuser 18 sleeps. The user'sarm 22 may be positioned in a selectednegative space 44 when theuser 18 sleeps. Theuser 18 is inhibited from lying directly on the user'sarm 22. Thus, the user'sarm 22 is inhibited from being subjected to reduced circulation or a pinched nerve whileuser 18 sleeps on the user's side and the user's stomach. The user'sarm 22 may follow the contour of the inwardly facingedge 38 of the corresponding firstlateral cushion 34 and the secondlateral cushion 36. Thus, the user's forearm may be positioned at a natural angle with respect to the user's upper arm. - In use, the
pillow 12 is used for sleeping. The user'sarm 22 is positioned beneath a selected one of thenegative spaces 44. The user'shead 16 is positioned on a selected one of thecushions 14. Thus, the user'sarm 22 is sequestered from the user'shead 16 while theuser 18 sleeps. Thus, the user'sarm 22 does not fall asleep while theuser 18 sleeps. - With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
- Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
