Abstract
An abrasive cleaning device for surfaces is a device utilized to dislodge small particles from a surface in order to facilitate the removal of the small particles and the cleaning of the surface. An abrasive scrubbing attachment such as a pumice stone is attached to a base pad and is rubbed against the surface in order to dislodge the small particles. The device may be maneuvered by a handling member with a mounting slot that is able to accommodate a grasping handle, a vacuum hose, or similar attachment for maneuvering the device. The device may include a debris-removal port when in use with a vacuum in order to allow dislodged small particles to be drawn through the abrasive scrubbing attachment, the base pad, and the handling member into the vacuum.
Description
- The current application claims a priority to the U.S. Provisional Patent application Ser. No. 62/268,763 filed on Dec. 17, 2015.
- The present invention relates generally to a device for cleaning a surface. More specifically, the present invention is an abrasive cleaning device for surfaces that is able to dislodge particles from a surface in order to facilitate the removal of particles from the surface.
- Pumice stones are effective in gently dislodging small particles from skin and as such are commonly utilized to exfoliate skin. Due to their mildly abrasive texture, pumice stones are capable of removing dead skin cells, dirt, and other small particles from the skin without damaging the skin. In addition to exfoliation, pumice stones can be utilized to remove hard or callused skin if desired by the user. The abrasiveness of pumice stones enables applications beyond skincare products such as toothpastes and hand soaps.
- The present invention is an abrasive cleaning device for surfaces that greatly facilitates the removal of small particles from a surface. The present invention is utilized to dislodge lint, pet hair, dirt, and other small particles from a surface. The present invention may be utilized as a handheld surface cleaning device. Alternatively, the present invention may be utilized in conjunction with a vacuum cleaner that is capable of providing suction to remove the small particles from the surface after the small particles have been dislodged. The present invention may utilize a pumice stone or other similarly abrasive material to aid in dislodging the small particles from the surface.

- The present invention is an abrasive cleaning device for surfaces that is utilized to dislodge small particles from a surface for convenient removal. The present invention is shown in
FIG. 1 andFIG. 2 and comprises abase pad 1, anabrasive scrubbing attachment 4, ahandling member 5, and amounting slot 8. - The
base pad 1 serves as a mounting platform for theabrasive scrubbing attachment 4. Thebase pad 1 is preferably flat and may be virtually any shape or size. Thebase pad 1 comprises afirst surface 2 and asecond surface 3 that serve as opposing surfaces of thebase pad 1. As such, thefirst surface 2 and thesecond surface 3 are positioned opposite to each other. - The
abrasive scrubbing attachment 4 is utilized to dislodge small particles from a surface by rubbing theabrasive scrubbing attachment 4 on the surface. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, theabrasive scrubbing attachment 4 is a pumice stone and rubbing theabrasive scrubbing attachment 4 on a surface is similar in function to rubbing a pumice stone on skin in order to exfoliate the skin. However, alternative embodiments of the present invention may utilize various alternatives to the pumice stone for theabrasive scrubbing attachment 4. Theabrasive scrubbing attachment 4 is positioned centrally onto thefirst surface 2 and is oriented toward the surface to be cleaned during use of the present invention. The central positioning of theabrasive scrubbing attachment 4 ensures stability and control of the present invention when the present invention is being maneuvered via the handlingmember 5 during use of the present invention. In the embodiment of the present invention shown inFIG. 3 , theabrasive scrubbing attachment 4 is removably mounted to thefirst surface 2, enabling theabrasive scrubbing attachment 4 to be removed from thebase pad 1 and replaced if needed. - With reference to
FIGS. 4-6 , the handlingmember 5 is an extrusion that is able to accommodate an object for use in maneuvering the present invention such as agrasping handle 10. Aproximal end 6 of thehandling member 5 is connected to thesecond surface 3. As such, the handlingmember 5 is positioned opposite to theabrasive scrubbing attachment 4 and as such, the maneuvering object is positioned opposite to theabrasive scrubbing attachment 4 as well. The handlingmember 5 is oriented away from theabrasive scrubbing attachment 4 and extrudes from thesecond surface 3. Themounting slot 8 is an opening that is able to accommodate a maneuvering object. Themounting slot 8 traverses longitudinally from adistal end 7 of the handlingmember 5 to theproximal end 6. As such, themounting slot 8 extends along the length of the handlingmember 5 and allows the maneuvering object to be inserted into thehandling member 5. Themounting slot 8 may additionally include a means of locking the maneuvering object within the handlingmember 5 to prevent the maneuvering object from separating from thehandling member 5 during use of the present invention. - With continued reference to
FIGS. 4-6 , thegrasping handle 10 enables the present invention to be utilized as a handheld device. The handlingmember 5 may be oriented in two different positions. In the embodiment of the present invention shown inFIG. 4 , thehandling member 5 is connected normal to thesecond surface 3, orienting thegrasping handle 10 perpendicular to thebase pad 1. Thegrasping handle 10 is removably engaged into themounting slot 8 and may thus be separated from the handlingmember 5 as needed. As previously discussed, themounting slot 8 may include a means of locking thegrasping handle 10 in place within thehandling member 5. - In the embodiment of the present invention shown in
FIG. 5 andFIG. 6 , the handlingmember 5 is oriented at an acute angle 11 relative to thesecond surface 3. Orienting thegrasping handle 10 at an acute angle 11 relative to thebase pad 1 may increase the ergonomics of the present invention when cleaning a surface. Thegrasping handle 10 is removably engaged into themounting slot 8 in this embodiment of the present invention as well. As such, thegrasping handle 10 may be conveniently removed from the handlingmember 5 as needed. - The embodiment of the present invention shown in
FIGS. 7-13 further comprises a debris-removal port 12. The debris-removal port 12 is utilized to draw small particles into a vacuum via avacuum hose 15 after the small particles have been dislodged from a surface by theabrasive scrubbing attachment 4. As with the embodiments of the present invention shown inFIGS. 1-6 , thehandling member 5 may be oriented in two different positions when the debris-removal port 12 is present. In the embodiment of the present invention shown inFIG. 7 andFIG. 8 , thehandling member 5 is connected normal to thesecond surface 3, orienting thevacuum hose 15 perpendicular to thebase pad 1. The debris-removal port 12 traverses centrally through theabrasive scrubbing attachment 4 and thebase pad 1. Small particles that have been dislodged from a surface may thus be drawn through theabrasive scrubbing attachment 4 and thebase pad 1. The debris-removal port 12 is in fluid communication with the mountingslot 8. As such, contents drawn into the debris-removal port 12 are transported into the mountingslot 8. - In the embodiment of the present invention shown in
FIGS. 9-13 , the handlingmember 5 is connected to thesecond surface 3 and is oriented at an acute angle 11 relative to thesecond surface 3. Similar to the embodiment of the present invention shown inFIG. 5 andFIG. 6 , orienting the handlingmember 5 at an acute angle 11 relative to thebase pad 1 may increase the ergonomics of the present invention when the present invention is in use with a vacuum. Furthermore, with reference toFIG. 11 andFIG. 13 , acentral axis 13 of the debris-removal port 12 is oriented at anobtuse angle 14 relative to a central axis 9 of the mountingslot 8, increasing the ergonomics of the present invention. The debris-removal port 12 traverses centrally through theabrasive scrubbing attachment 4 and thebase pad 1, enabling small particles to be drawn through theabrasive scrubbing attachment 4 and thebase pad 1. The debris-removal port 12 is in fluid communication with the mountingslot 8 to allow contents drawn into the debris-removal port 12 to be transported into the mountingslot 8. - As shown in
FIGS. 9-13 , thevacuum hose 15 may be utilized in conjunction with the present invention in order to draw dislodged small particles into a vacuum. Thevacuum hose 15 is removably mounted into the mountingslot 8, allowing thevacuum hose 15 to be removed from the handlingmember 5 as needed. As shown inFIG. 13 , thevacuum hose 15 is in fluid communication with the debris-removal port 12 through the mountingslot 8. As such, small particles drawn through the debris-removal port 12 are transported to thevacuum hose 15 through the mountingslot 8. - Although the present invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment, it is understood that many other possible modifications and variations can be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention as hereinafter claimed.
Claims (9)
1. An abrasive cleaning device for surfaces comprises:
a base pad;
an abrasive scrubbing attachment;
a handling member;
a mounting slot;
the base pad comprises a first surface and a second surface;
the first surface and the second surface being positioned opposite to each other;
the abrasive scrubbing attachment being positioned centrally onto the first surface;
a proximal end of the handling member being connected to the second surface;
the handling member being oriented away from the abrasive scrubbing attachment; and
the mounting slot traversing longitudinally from a distal end of the handling member to the proximal end.
2. The abrasive cleaning device for surfaces as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the abrasive scrubbing attachment is a pumice stone.
3. The abrasive cleaning device for surfaces as claimed in claim 1 further comprises:
the abrasive scrubbing attachment being removably mounted to the first surface.
4. The abrasive cleaning device for surfaces as claimed in claim 1 further comprises:
a grasping handle;
the handling member being connected normal to the second surface; and
the grasping handle being removably engaged into the mounting slot.
5. The abrasive cleaning device for surfaces as claimed in claim 1 further comprises:
a grasping handle;
the handling member being oriented at an acute angle relative to the second surface; and
the grasping handle being removably engaged into the mounting slot.
6. The abrasive cleaning device for surfaces as claimed in claim 1 further comprises:
a debris-removal port;
the handling member being connected normal to the second surface;
the debris-removal port traversing centrally through the abrasive scrubbing attachment and the base pad; and
the debris-removal port being in fluid communication with the mounting slot.
7. The abrasive cleaning device for surfaces as claimed in claim 1 further comprises:
a debris-removal port;
the handling member being connected to the second surface;
the handling member being oriented at an acute angle relative to the second surface;
the debris-removal port traversing centrally through the abrasive scrubbing attachment and the base pad; and
the debris-removal port being in fluid communication with the mounting slot.
8. The abrasive cleaning device for surfaces as claimed in claim 7 further comprises:
a central axis of the debris-removal port being oriented at an obtuse angle relative to a central axis of the mounting slot.
9. A system for the abrasive cleaning device for surfaces as claimed in claim 1 comprises:
a vacuum hose;
a debris-removal port;
the debris-removal port traversing centrally through the abrasive scrubbing attachment and the base pad;
the vacuum hose being removably mounted into the mounting slot; and
the vacuum hose being in fluid communication with the debris-removal port through the mounting slot.
