Abstract

A wooden dummy includes a body and a stand assembled to the body. The body has an outer circumferential surface divided into three equal zones oriented to three different directions. The three zones are respectively provided on a higher portion at a different height with a set of arm holes, into which three arm rods can be inserted for use as means to practice hand striking, blocking and so on. The stand is formed from three angled legs of different heights and orientations. The legs are located in the three zones at a lower portion thereof corresponding to the sets of arm holes in orientation and height, and can be used for practicing leg raising and kicking. Thus, one single wooden dummy can be flexibly used by one or more users of different heights.

Description

    FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to a wooden dummy for martial arts training, and more particularly to a wooden dummy that has an outer circumferential surface divided into three equal zones oriented to different directions, and each of the three zones is provided with one set of arm holes and a corresponding leg located at a height different from that of the arm holes and leg in any of the other two zones, so that one single wooden dummy can be flexibly used by one or more users of different heights for martial arts training, such as hand striking, blocking, leg raising and kick, and the like.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • FIG. 1 shows a first type of conventional wooden dummy most common for martial arts training. As shown, the first conventional wooden dummy includes a body 1, a stand 2, and a supporting frame 24. The body 1 is provided with three arm rods 11, 12, 13 for training hand striking technique. The stand 2 also serves as a leg and can be used for training leg raising and kicking techniques. This type of conventional wooden dummy has the following drawbacks in use:
  • (1) It has a bulky and heavy overall structure that occupies a large space and can not be easily transported and stored, and takes a lot of time and labor to assemble or disassemble; and
  • (2) It provides only one fixedly oriented zone for training hand striking, leg kicking and the like; and the leg and arm rods provided on this fixed zone are located at fixed heights, which are not necessarily suitable for female and male users of different heights and ages. And, it would be very uneconomical to purchase multiple sets of customized wooden dummies to meet different users' requirements; and the large quantity of wooden dummies would occupy an extremely large room.
  • To solve the above drawbacks, another type of conventional wooden dummy having simplified structure has been introduced into the market. Please refer to FIG. 2. The second type of conventional wooden dummy includes only a body 1 and a stand 2 assembled to a lower portion of the body 1. The body 1 is provided on a higher portion with three arm rods 11, 12, 13 for training hand striking technique. The stand 2 includes three legs 21 of the same height for locating the wooden dummy in place and training leg raising and kicking techniques. While the second conventional wooden dummy has a simplified structure compared to the first conventional wooden dummy shown in FIG. 1, it still has only one set of arm rods provided on a fixedly oriented zone of the body 1 for martial arts training and therefore just could not solve the problem of not suitable for female and male users of different heights and ages.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • A primary object of the present invention is to overcome the drawbacks in the conventional wooden dummies by providing an improved wooden dummy having an outer circumferential surface divided into three zones, each of which is provided with a leg and a set of arm holes located at a height different from that in any of other two zones, so that arm rods can be selectively inserted into different sets of arm holes for use by users of different heights or by different numbers of users, including adults, children, women and men, for martial arts training, such as hand striking, blocking, leg raising and kicking, etc. With these arrangements, the wooden dummy has increased value in use.
  • Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved wooden dummy that provides height-adjustable legs and arm rods to enable reduced volume and convenient use of the wooden dummy at any place without occupying too much space.
  • A further object of the present invention is to provide an improved wooden dummy that can be easily assembled and disassembled to reduce the volume thereof for convenient storage and transport.
  • To achieve the above and other objects, the wooden dummy according to the present invention includes a body and a stand. The body is in the form of a cylinder. An outer circumferential surface of the body is divided into three equal zones of 120° that face toward three different directions. The three equal zones of the body are respectively provided on a lower portion thereof with a leg hole. The leg holes are located at different heights on the body for three angled legs to insert thereinto and form the stand, so that the stand has a common bottom plane but three tops of different heights. The legs of the stand can be used for martial arts training, including leg raising and kicking. Meanwhile, the three equal zones of the body are also respectively provided on a higher portion with a set of arm holes corresponding to the leg hole in the same zone. The three sets of arm holes are located at different heights on the body, and arm rods can be selectively inserted into any set of the arm holes for martial arts training, including hand striking and blocking.
  • With these arrangements, one single wooden dummy has three differently oriented zones having identical structure but providing legs and arm rods located at different heights, so that users of different heights, including adults or children, women and men, can select one of the zones on the wooden dummy most suitable for them to use. And, the wooden dummy can be conveniently and flexibly used by one user alone or by two or three users at the same time.

  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
  • The present invention will now be described with a preferred embodiment thereof and with reference to the accompanying drawings.
  • Please refer to FIGS. 3 and 4 that are partially exploded and fully assembled perspective views, respectively, of a wooden dummy according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention. As shown, the wooden dummy includes a body 3, a plurality of arm rods 81, 91, 101, a plurality of locking pins 20, and a stand 4.
  • The body 3 is in the form of a cylinder. An outer circumferential surface of the body 3 is divided into three equal zones of 120° that face toward three different directions. The three equal zones of the body 3 are respectively provided on a lower portion thereof with a leg hole 5, 6, 7. The leg holes 5, 6, 7 transversely extend through the body 3 and are located at different heights on the body 3. Meanwhile, the three equal zones of the body 3 are also respectively provided on a higher portion with a set of arm holes (8, 9, 10), (14, 15, 16), and (17, 18, 19) corresponding to the leg holes 5, 6, 7, respectively. The three sets of arm holes (8, 9, 10), (14, 15, 16), and (17, 18, 19) are located at different heights on the body 3 and each of the arm holes transversely extends through the body 3.
  • Three angled legs 51, 61, 71 of different heights are sized for inserting into and through the three leg holes 5, 6, 7. The three legs 51, 61, 71 extended through the leg holes 5, 6, 7 on the body 3 together form the stand 4 for the wooden dummy. Since the angled legs 51, 61, 71 are of different in height, the stand 4 formed from these angled legs 51, 61, 71 has a common bottom plane but three tops of different heights relative to the common bottom plane.
  • In the illustrated preferred embodiment, the leg hole 5 is highest compared to the medium leg hole 6 and the lowest leg hole 7, so that the leg 51 corresponding to the highest leg hole 5 defines the highest top of the stand 4, the leg 61 corresponding to the medium leg hole 6 defines the medium top of the stand 4, and the leg 71 corresponding to the lowest leg hole 7 defines the lowest top of the stand 4. Similarly, the set of arm holes 8, 9, 10 corresponding to the highest leg hole 5 and the leg 51 is located highest on the body 3, the set of arm holes 17, 18, 19 corresponding to the lowest leg hole 7 and the leg 71 is located lowest on the body 3, and the set of arm holes 14, 15, 16 corresponding to the medium leg hole 6 and the leg 61 is located on the body 3 between the highest set of arm holes 8, 9, 10 and the lowest set of arm holes 17, 18, 19. To use the wooden dummy of the present invention for martial arts training, a user first selects one of the three zones on the circumferential surface of the body 3 that is most suitable for him or her to use, and then inserts the arm rods 81, 91, 101 into and through the set of arm holes in the selected zone on the body 3.
  • The arm rods 81, 91, 101 respectively have a tail end configured and sized for inserting into and through the three sets of arm holes (8, 9, 10), (14, 15, 16) and (17, 18, 19). Each of the tail ends of the arm rods 81, 91, 101 is provided with a locking pin hole 22. When the arm rods 81, 91, 101 have been extended through the selected set of arm holes with the tail ends thereof exposed from the body 3, locking pins 20 can be extended through the locking pin holes 22 to lock the arm rods 81, 91, 101 to the selected arm holes and the body 3.
  • The angled legs 51, 61, 71 forming the stand 4 respectively have a tail end. The tail ends of the angled legs 51, 61, 71 are configured and sized for correspondingly inserting into and through the three leg holes 5, 6, 7 provided on the lower portion of the body 3, and are respectively provided with a locking pin hole 23. After the legs 51, 61, 71 have been extended through the leg holes 5, 6, 7 with their tail ends exposed from the body 3, locking pins 20 can be extended through these locking pin holes 23 to lock the legs 51, 61, 71 to the leg holes 5, 6, 7 and the body 3.
  • With the above arrangements, one single body 3 of the wooden dummy with the stand 4 assembled thereto can provide on its circumferential surface three differently oriented zones, within each of which one set of arm rods located at a different height on the body 3 is provided. A user can, according to his or her own height, select one of the three zones that has the arm holes located at a height on the body 3 most suitable for him or her to use. After selecting the most suitable set of arm holes (8, 9, 10), (14, 15, 16) or (17, 18, 19), the user can insert the arm rods 81, 91, 101 into the selected set of arm holes and insert the locking pins 20 into the locking pin holes 23 to lock the arm rods 81, 91, 101 in place. Then, the user can use the wooden dummy to practice different martial arts techniques, such as hand striking, blocking, hanging kicking and so on. In brief, with the wooden dummy of the present invention, a user may, according to his or her height, freely select one of the three zones on the body 3 that has a leg 51, 61 or 71 and one set of arm holes (8, 9, 10), (14, 15, 16) or (17, 18, 19) most suitable for him or her to use, and then assemble the arm rods 81, 91, 101 to the selected arm holes located at the desired height on the body 3.
  • FIG. 7 shows a relatively tall user who selects one zone of the wooden dummy body 3 corresponding to the highest leg 51 and the highest set of arm holes (8, 9, 10), and inserts the arm rods 81, 91, 101 into the arm holes 8, 9, 10 for martial arts training. FIG. 8 shows a user of medium height who selects one zone of the wooden dummy body 3 corresponding to the medium leg 61 and the medium set of arm holes (14, 15, 16), and inserts the arm rods 81, 91, 101 into the arm holes 14, 15, 16 for martial arts training. And, FIG. 9 shows a relatively short user who selects one zone of the wooden dummy body 3 corresponding to the lowest leg 71 and the lowest set of arm holes (17, 18, 19), and inserts the arm rods 81, 91, 101 into the arm holes 17, 18, 19 for martial arts training. With the technical means and arrangements of the present invention, one single wooden dummy has three zones of identical structure but provides arm rods located at different heights, so that the wooden dummy can be conveniently and flexibly used by users of different heights, including adults, children, women and men.
  • The present invention has been described with a preferred embodiment thereof and it is understood that many changes and modifications in the described embodiment can be carried out without departing from the scope and the spirit of the invention that is intended to be limited only by the appended claims.
