- The present disclosure relates to fans, and more particularly to a fan with shield.
- 2. Description of Related Art
- A large amount of heat may be generated from electric elements of an electronic device during operation. If the heat is not dissipated efficiently, the electric elements may be damaged. Therefore, efficient heat-dissipating devices are essential.
- A fan is used as a means to dissipate the heat from the electronic device. A rack can be provided for receiving a plurality of fans. A plurality of through holes is defined in the rack for the passage of air. However, debris or air particles may enter the electronic device via the plurality of through holes. The debris or air particles may cause damage to the electronic device. A shield is provided for shielding against debris or air particles. However, if the electronic device is rotated through an angle, the fan shielding is ineffective.
- Therefore, there is room for improvement within the art.

- Referring to
FIGS. 1 and 2 , an embodiment of a shield of a fan includes amounting plate 10, amounting frame 30, and areceiving frame 60. - The
mounting plate 10 is the mounting of the shield of a fan (not shown) on an electronic device (not shown). Themounting plate 10 defines arectangular vent hole 12. Apost 13 is located on a center portion ofvent hole 12. Each of four corners of thevent hole 12 is protected against noise and vibration with apositioning member 50, which is a sprung-ball locator. - The
mounting frame 30 includes a rectangularfirst frame body 31. A center portion of thefirst frame body 31 is hollow to define afirst opening 32. Thefirst frame body 31 includes a plurality ofclasps 311. Thefirst frame body 31 includes afirst frame edge 35 and a parallelsecond frame edge 36. Thefirst frame edge 35 and thesecond frame edge 36 are located on opposite edges of thefirst opening 32. A plurality ofparallel pivot shafts 37 is pivotally mounted in thefirst opening 32. Each of the plurality ofpivot shafts 37 is located horizontally in thefirst opening 32. Each of the plurality ofpivot shafts 37 secures ashielding piece 38. Theshielding piece 38 is adapted to rotate together with thecorresponding pivot shaft 37. Theshielding piece 38 can rotate between a shielding position and an exposing position. In the shielding position, the plurality ofshielding pieces 38 together shield thefirst opening 32 against the ingress of debris and air-borne particles. In the exposing position, the plurality ofshielding pieces 38 does not shield thefirst opening 32 and allows air to flow through thefirst opening 32. - The
receiving frame 60 is configured to receive themounting frame 30 therein. Thereceiving frame 60 includes a rectangularsecond frame body 61. Thesecond frame body 61 defines a plurality ofengaging holes 611, corresponding to the plurality ofclasps 311 of themounting frame 30. A center portion of thesecond frame body 61 is hollow, defining asecond opening 62. Amounting piece 63 is secured in a center portion ofsecond opening 62. Themounting piece 63 defines apivot hole 631 for receiving thepost 13 therein. Thereceiving frame 60 includes abottom edge 65. A center portion of thebottom edge 65 secures aweight block 67 of very dense material. Each of the four corners of thereceiving frame 60 defines arecess 69. - Referring to
FIGS. 2 and 3 , thepositioning member 50 includes afirst receiving case 51, a second receivingcase 52, aspring 70, and aball 80. Thepositioning member 50 defines afirst receiving room 511. A side of thepositioning member 50 defines a semicircularfirst cutout 513. A width of thefirst cutout 513 is smaller than a diameter of theball 80. Thefirst cutout 513 communicates with thefirst receiving room 511. The first receivingcase 51 includes a plurality oflocks 517. The second receivingcase 52 defines asecond receiving room 521. A side of thesecond receiving case 52 forms a semicircularsecond cutout 523, corresponding to thefirst cutout 513 of thefirst receiving case 51. A width of thesecond cutout 523 is smaller than a diameter of theball 80. Thesecond cutout 523 communicates with thesecond receiving room 521. Thesecond case 52 defines a plurality oflocking holes 527. - In assembly of the positioning
member 50, thespring 70 and theball 80 are placed in thefirst receiving room 511. The inner side of thefirst case 51 resists an end of thespring 70. Another end of thespring 70 pushes against theball 80. Theball 80 is aligned to thefirst cutout 513. Part of theball 80 extends through thefirst cutout 513 by the force of thespring 70. Then, the plurality oflocks 517 of the first receivingcase 51 engage in the plurality of lockingholes 527 of thesecond case 52, to secure the first receivingcase 51 and thesecond receiving case 52 together. Thefirst receiving room 511 and thesecond receiving room 521 together receive thespring 70 and theball 80 therein. Thefirst cutout 513 and thesecond cutout 523 together form a through hole, for part of theball 80 to extend out of the first receivingcase 51 and thesecond receiving case 52. The edges of the through hole keep theball 80 captive in the first receivingcase 51 and thesecond receiving case 52. Theball 80 can rotate in thefirst receiving room 511 and thesecond receiving room 521. The assembledpositioning member 50 is mounted on each of the four corners of thevent hole 12. - Referring to
FIGS. 1 to 4 , the mountingframe 30 is placed insecond opening 62 of the receivingframe 60. Theclasps 311 of the mountingframe 30 engage with the engagingholes 611 of the receivingframe 60, to secure the mountingframe 30 and the receivingframe 60 together. Then, the receivingframe 60 is aligned to thevent hole 12 of the mountingplate 10. Thepost 13 of the mountingplate 10 is inserted in thepivot hole 631, of the receivingframe 60, to pivotally mount the receivingframe 60 on the mountingplate 10. The presence of theweight block 67 mounted on thebottom edge 65 of the receivingframe 60 causes thebottom edge 65 to gravitate to the undermost position of the receivingframe 60, by the gravity of theweight block 67. At this position, theballs 80 of thepositioning members 50 are located in therecesses 69 of the receivingframe 60. The mountingplate 10 is then mounted on the electronic device to provide shielding to a fan. - When the electronic device is moved or repositioned at another angle, the receiving
frame 60 rotates to keep thebottom edge 65 in the horizontal direction and the undermost position by the gravity of theweight block 67. Therefore, the shieldingpieces 38 of the mountingframe 30 are kept in a horizontal direction. The pressure of theballs 80 of thepositioning members 50 is low enough to ensure that theballs 80 can escape from therecesses 69 of the receivingframe 60 as gravity acts upon theweight block 67. Theballs 80 can slide back in therecesses 69 when thebottom edge 65 is in the horizontal direction. - In the above shield, the
weight block 67 always keeps thebottom edge 65 as the horizontal and the undermost edge of the receivingframe 60, to maintain the shieldingpieces 38 always in horizontal direction. Therefore, the shield can keep working effectively. - It is to be understood, however, that even though numerous characteristics and advantages of the embodiments have been set forth in the foregoing description, together with details of the structure and functions of the embodiments, the disclosure is illustrative only, and changes may be made in detail, especially in the matters of shape, size, and arrangement of parts within the principles of the present disclosure to the full extent indicated by the broad general meaning of the terms in which the appended claims are expressed.
