Abstract

Disclosed is a novel wearable toy. The toy includes a band with a first end and a second end and at least one fastener for joining the first end with the second end to form a cylindrical shape to sit around a human wrist. A compartment is coupled to the band, the compartment defining an inner chamber with at least one side and a movable lid disposed on lid of the side, the lid moveable from a closed position to an open position to expose the inner chamber. A set of items all related by a theme, each of the items individually attached by a flexible strip, such as a ribbon, to the inner chamber and the set of items all sized to fit inside the inner chamber when the lid is in the closed position. In one example the band and the ribbons are made from washable fabric.

Description

    CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
  • This application is based upon and claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application Ser. No. 61/615,023 filed on Mar. 23, 2012, the disclosure of which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety.
  • FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention generally relates to the field of children's toys, and more particularly relates to a wearable educational toy to teach textures, shapes, numbers, letters, sounds, colors, animals, food, tools, and other items to children.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • There are a number of educational toys that attempt to engage a child's interest and to teach the child any of a variety of concepts by virtue of the child's play with the toy. Young children are known to throw or drop toys. Toys often get dirty from being on the ground and pick up dirt and germs. Toy with multiple parts such as shapes and letters are often separated from the toy when in use, storage, or transport. Also children often want to put toys in their months during play.
  • Moreover, children with neurological disorders such as ADD (attention deficit disorder), ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder), and ODD (oppositional defiant disorder) often have difficulty amusing themselves on their own.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • An educational activity toy developed by to address the problems outlined above. The educational toy, is known by the brand name “Wristables™.” The Wristables™ toy is designed to permit any child to wear the toy. Wearing the Wristables™ toy any child can educate themselves on colors, shapes, textures, letters, numbers, animals, foods, and countless other subjects.
  • Wristables™ toys are wearable, washable, teachable and attachable for you and your child to transport anywhere. Wristables™ toys easily, comfortably Velcro® strap on a child's wrist and on lid of each Velcro® strap is themed “party in a box”. In one example, each Wristables™ toy is based on a unique theme, such as but not limited to farm animals, picnic, hospital, tools, etc. All the objects relating to a specific theme are tucked inside that come out of the “box” for the child to enjoy learning and playing activity experience. Anywhere, you need to go, Wristables™ toys goes along and a toy is never forgotten.
  • A wearable toy in one example includes a band with a first end and a second end and at least one fastener for joining the first end with the second end to form a cylindrical shape to sit around a human wrist. A compartment is coupled to the band, the compartment defining an inner chamber with at least one side and a movable lid disposed on lid of the side, the lid moveable from a closed position to an open position to expose the inner chamber. A set of items all related by a theme, each of the items individually attached by a flexible strip, such as a ribbon, to the inner chamber and the set of items all sized to fit inside the inner chamber when the lid is in the closed position. In one example the band and the ribbons made from washable fabric. The set of items include at least one of various shapes, various sizes, various colors, various textures and various scents, alphabetical letters and numbers.

  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION
  • As required, detailed embodiments of the present invention are disclosed herein; however, it is to be understood that the disclosed embodiments are merely examples of the invention, which can be embodied in various forms. Therefore, specific structural and functional details disclosed herein are not to be interpreted as limiting, but merely as a basis for the claims and as a representative basis for teaching one skilled in the art to variously employ the present invention in virtually any appropriately detailed structure and function. Further, the terms and phrases used herein are not intended to be limiting; but rather, to provide an understandable description of the invention.
  • Example Barn Theme in FIGS. 1-6
  • FIG. 1 is a front top view of an example barn theme Wristables™ toy 150 being worn on a wrist 102. The barn theme Wristables™ toy 150 has a lid 160 with an outer surface 161 and a side 152 and barn door 153 which operates as a fastener, such as, Velco® latch. All of these components are securely fastened to a band 190 formed to wrap around a user's wrist 102. The band forms generally a cylindrical shape a shown. It is important to note in other examples the band can be sized to go around the child's chest, child's leg, or around a play bar on a car seat or stroller. All of the components of the Wristables™ toy 150 are fabricated from any material natural, man-made/synthetic, or a combination of both. In one example, the material is washable. The dyes in the material are selected to be compatible and safe with small children.
  • FIG. 2 is a right-hand view and FIG. 3 a left-hand view and FIG. 4 a side view of the example barn theme Wristables™ toy 150 of FIG. 1 with the band 190 lying flat and illustrating an example fastener 192, 194. The underside 196 of the band 190 would typically include other fasteners (not shown). For example if fasteners are Velcro® fasteners, a corresponding portion would be attached to the underside 196. In other examples, the fasteners 192, 194 may include snaps, buttons, zippers, hooks, or a combination thereof.

In this example barn theme Wristables™ toy 150 the themed items are animals typically found in a barn for example, a cow formed on circular shape 171, a horse formed on rectangular shape 172, a pig formed on an oval shape 173, a chicken formed on a triangular shape 174, and a sheep formed on a square shape 175. Each of the themed items 171-175 are sized to all fit into the compartment 170 and firmly secured thereto by a narrow piece of cloth, flexible strip, or ribbons 181-185 as shown. The number of themed items can be any number and the number five themed items are examples only. Ribbons 181-185 may be made out of any natural material, manmade material, or a combination of both. The term “themed items” means any items related to each other by a dominate or central topic, idea, gist, motif, subject matter. In one example the themed items are relate to the compartment in which they are stored. Example of themes that would have themed items would be a barn with barn animals, a picnic basket with food (shown in FIGS. 7-11), a tool box with tools (shown in FIGS. 12-13), a spaceships with astronauts, a firehouse or fire truck with firefighting equipment, a hospital with hospital equipment, a hair salon with salon items, an aquarium with aquarium items, a pet store with pets, an airport with airport related items, and other items related to each other. Moreover, themed items may be formed in the shape of or made into a wide variety and limitless variations of shapes including but not limited to numbers, letters, geometric shapes, colors and textures. In one example as shown in FIG. 5, an anchoring pad 187 is used to firmly attach all ribbons 181-185 holding the themed items 171-175 as shown. The anchoring pad 187 can be fastened to the compartment 170 using fastener 188 shown in FIG. 5. In one example fastener 188 may include Velcro® fasteners, snaps, buttons, zippers, hooks, or a combination thereof.
  • Continuing with reference to FIG. 6, an additional optional set of themed items 164 is disposed on an inner surface or underside 162 of the lid 160. In this example the additional optional set of themed items include milk, yarn, ham, eggs, horse shoe which are related to themed items 171-175 out of the inner chamber 170. For example the milk is related to the cow 171 and the egg related to the chicken 174.
  • Example Picnic Theme in FIGS. 7-11
  • It is important to note that all the description for the example barn theme Wristables™ toy 150 described above and illustrated in FIGS. 1-6 will now be applied to an example picnic theme Wristables™ toy 750. FIG. 7 is a front top view of an example picnic theme Wristables™ toy 750 being worn on a wrist a wrist 702. The picnic theme Wristables™ toy 750 has a lid 760 with an outer surface 761 and a side 752 and picnic clasp 753. All of these components are securely fastened to a band 790 formed to wrap around a user's wrist 702. The band forms generally a cylindrical shape a shown.
  • FIG. 8 is a right-hand view and FIG. 9 a left-hand view example picnic theme Wristables™ toy 750 of FIG. 7 with the band 790 lying flat and illustrating an example fastener 792, 794. The underside 796 of the band 790 would typically include other fasteners (not shown).

Each of the themed items 771-775 are sized to all fit into the compartment 770 and firmly secured thereto by ribbons 781-785 as shown. In one example, an anchoring pad 787 is used to firmly attach all flexible strips or ribbons 781-785 holding the themed items 771-775 as shown. The anchoring pad 787 can be fastened to the compartment 770 using fastener 788.
  • Continuing with reference to FIG. 10, an additional optional set of themed items 764 is disposed on an inner surface or underside 762 of the lid 760. In this example the additional optional set of themed items include pie, cake, egg, donut, a glass of juice which are related to themed items 771-775 out of the inner chamber 770.
  • Example Tool Box Theme in FIG. 12-13
  • It is important to note that all the description for the example barn theme Wristables™ toy 150 described above and illustrated in FIGS. 1-6 and the example picnic theme Wristables™ toy 750 will now be applied to an example tool box theme Wristables™ toy 1250. FIG. 12 is a perspective view of an example tool box theme Wristables™ toy 1250. The tool box theme Wristables™ toy 1250 has a lid 1260 and a side 1252 and tool box clasp 1253. All of these components are securely fastened to a band 1290 formed to wrap around a user's wrist (not showed). The band forms generally a cylindrical shape a shown.
  • FIG. 13 is a front perspective view of the example picnic theme Wristables™ toy 1250 of FIG. 12 with the lid 1260 open and set of themed items 1271-1274 out of the inner chamber 1270. In this example picnic theme Wristables™ toy 750 the themed items are tools typically found in a tool box for example, a saw 1271, an screw driver 1272, a wrench 1273, and a hammer 1274. Each of the themed items 1271-1274 are sized to all fit into ae compartment or inner chamber 1270 and firmly secured thereto by ribbons 1281-1284 as shown. The number of themed items can be any number and the number five themed items are examples only. In one example, an anchoring pad 1287 is used to firmly attach all ribbons 1281-1284 holding the themed items 1271-1274 as shown. The anchoring pad 1287 can be fastened to the compartment 1270 using fastener 1288.

  • Various embodiments of the present invention are advantageous over other toys. The Wristables™ toy permits any child, even children with neurological disorders such as ADD. ADHD, OCD and ODD to amuse themselves, ignite their senses, sight, touch and creativity on their own. Wristables is a toy designed for any child to not only own, but to wear as his own and truly call his own. A child can begin to educate themselves on colors, shapes, textures, letters, numbers, animals, foods and countless other subjects.
  • Wearing the Wristables™ toy any child can educate themselves on colors, shapes, textures, letters, numbers, animals, foods and countless other subjects. Wristables™ toys are wearable, washable, teachable and attachable for you and your child to transport anywhere. Wristables™ toys easily, comfortably Velcro® strap on a child's wrist and on lid of each Velcro® is themed “party in a box”. Each theme has objects relating to it tucked inside that come out of the “box” for the child to enjoy a learning and play activity experience. Anywhere, you need to go, Wristables™ toys goes along and a toy is never forgotten.
  • The terms “a” or “an”, as used herein, are defined as one or more than one. The term plurality, as used herein, is defined as two or more than two. The term another, as used herein, is defined as at least a second or more. The terms including and/or having, as used herein, are defined as comprising (i.e., open language). The term coupled, as used herein, is defined as connected, although not necessarily directly, and not necessarily mechanically.
  • As can be seen from the above discussion, one or more embodiments of the present invention are advantageous over conventional storage devices for motorized vehicles. For example, the storage device of one or more embodiments provides a secure storage device that replaces the rear seat of a motorcycle when removed, thereby providing additional storage for the rider. The storage device is secured to the rear seat area by one or more plates that make unauthorized removal very difficult, if not impossible.
  • Although specific embodiments of the invention have been disclosed, those having ordinary skill in the art will understand that changes can be made to the specific embodiments without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. The scope of the invention is not to be restricted, therefore, to the specific embodiments, and it is intended that the appended claims cover any and all such applications, modifications, and embodiments within the scope of the present invention.

Claims (20)

What is claimed is:
1. A toy comprising:
a band with a first end and a second end and at least one fastener for joining the first end with the second end to form a cylindrical shape;
a compartment coupled to the band, the compartment defining an inner chamber with at least one side and a movable lid rotatably coupled to the one side, the lid moveable from a closed position to an open position to expose the inner chamber; and
a set of items all related by a theme, each of the items individually attached by a flexible strip to the inner chamber and the set of items all sized to fit inside the inner chamber when the lid is in the closed position.
2. The toy of claim 1, where in the band is sized to form a cylindrical shape size to fit around a human wrist.
3. The toy of claim 1, where in the band and the flexible strip are made from a washable fabric.
4. The toy of claim 2, where in the set of items include at least one of various shapes, various sizes, various colors, various textures and various scents.
5. The toy of claim 2, where in the set of items include at least one of letters and numbers.
6. The toy of claim 4, where in the inner chamber with the side and the lid is in the shape of a picnic basket and the set of items are different food items.
7. The toy of claim 4, where in the inner chamber with the side and the lid is in the shape of a barn and the set of items are different at least one of farm animals and farm items.
8. The toy of claim 4, where in the inner chamber with the side and the lid is in the shape of a tool box and the set of items are different tools.
9. The toy of claim 4, where in the inner chamber with the side and the lid is in the shape of a firehouse and the set of items are different firefighting related items.
10. The toy of claim 4, where in the inner chamber with the side and the lid is in the shape of an airport and the set of items are different airport related items.
11. The toy of claim 4, where in the inner chamber with the side and the lid is in the shape of a hospital and the set of items are different hospital related items.
12. A wearable toy comprising:
a wrist band with a first end and a second end and at least one fastener for joining the first end with the second end to form a substantially cylindrical shape;
a compartment coupled to the band, the compartment defining at least one inner chamber formed from at least one side;
a lid rotatably coupled the one side, the lid moveable from a closed position to an open position to expose the inner chamber; and
a set of items all related by a common subject matter, each of the items individually attached by a flexible strip to the inner chamber and the set of items all sized to fit inside the inner chamber when the lid is in the closed position.
13. The toy of claim 12, where in the set of items include at least one of various shapes, various sizes, various colors, various textures, various scents, alphabetical letters and numbers.
14. The toy of claim 12, wherein lid includes an outer surface and an inner surface, the inner surface including a one or more items related by the common subject matter with the set of items.
15. The toy of claim 13, where in the inner chamber with the side and the lid is in the shape of a picnic basket and the set of items are different food items.
16. The toy of claim 3, where in the inner chamber with the side and the lid is in the shape of a barn and the set of items are different at least one of farm animals and farm items.
17. The toy of claim 13, where in the inner chamber with the side and the lid is in the shape of a tool box and the set of items are different tools.
18. The toy of claim 13, where in the inner chamber with the side and the lid is in the shape of a firehouse and the set of items are different firefighting related items.
19. The toy of claim 13, where in the inner chamber with the side and the lid is in the shape of an airport and the set of items are different airport related items.
20. The toy of claim 13, where in the inner chamber with the side and the lid is in the shape of a hospital and the set of items are different hospital related items.
