Description
- Provisional Application No. 61/530,007
- Invention is not federally sponsored for research or development.
- Not Applicable
- The invention relates to an amusement device, namely a holder in the shape of a character or object, for use with a frozen, cylindrical confection commonly referred to as an ice pop. The holder of the present invention emotionally soothes sick children as well as excites and entertains while simultaneously protecting the individual's hands from cold temperatures.
- Current holders intended to be placed on frozen, cylindrical confections are typically simple and are only designed to protect fingers from extreme temperatures. D430720 to Williamson & Quick and D630408 to Santoro are designed to protect fingers from cold temperatures, however, both are missing an element of fun and excitement that children crave and that favorite characters and objects provide. While these do bring a level of physical comfort to the individual, they do not excite or entertain. Additionally, designs provided by Williamson & Quick and Santoro lack the ability to position the holder anywhere on the frozen confection due to having only one opening. The new and improved invention allows for positioning of the novelty holder anywhere on the ice pop which in turn provides ease of use for the child contributing to the overall enjoyment of the confection. Small children have difficulties gripping a long frozen confection from the bottom versus closer to the top.
- The prior art does provide for insulating materials for use with extreme temperatures such as patent U.S. Pat. No. 5,680,944 to Reuter, however, the holder is mundane for small children and is intended to keep a beverage cool in addition to cooling down the body. In the case of frozen, cylindrical confections, namely ice pops, the purpose of the new improved invention is to keep the hands warm as well as provide entertainment, to soothe during times of sickness, and to bring an element of fun and excitement.
- The subject invention provides a novelty device for individuals, namely children and youth, to be entertained, excited and soothed while consuming a frozen confection, more specifically a long, cylindrical frozen confection commonly referred to as ice pops. Consuming frozen confections has long been a favorite activity for individuals of all ages. Children in particular often consume these treats. In addition, children regularly consume electrolyte balancing frozen confections to prevent dehydration in times of sickness. The present invention is intended to positively impact the individual both physically and mentally by providing comfort to the hands as well as a sense of entertainment, comfort, companionship and playfulness via the character or object. The novelty, frozen confection holder comprises, but is not limited to animals, people, sports objects, etc. The child's favorite character most definitely emotionally soothes during times of sickness when an electrolyte balancing frozen confection is necessary.
-
FIGS. 1A , 1B are perspective views of two embodiments of the character or object frozen confection holder of the present invention. -
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the embodiment of the invention with an affixer partially fastened. -
FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view of the embodiment of the invention revealing multiple layers of the novelty holder in addition to stuffed or non-stuffed appendages and protrusions. -
FIG. 4 is a perspective view of the embodiment of the invention shown inFIGS. 1 a, 1 b and 2. -
FIG. 5 is a perspective view of another embodiment of the invention wherein the invention has no fastener. - As shown in
FIGS. 1A and 1B , the subject invention provides anovelty holder 10 for a frozen confection contained in a long, cylindrical wrapper in which theholder 10 is formed in the shape of a character or object with the intention of simultaneously soothing, entertaining and comforting the individual consuming the confection. InFIG. 1A , theholder 10 is formed in the shape of an octopus. InFIG. 1B , theholder 10 is formed in the shape of a butterfly. -
FIG. 2 shows theexciting novelty holder 10 where the back side of theholder 20 is partially affixed to thefront side 18 via aloop affixer 14 andhook affixer 16. Theback side 20 of the preferred embodiment of theinvention 10 is described as the area of the invention that comes into direct contact with the frozen, cylindrical confection. Thefront side 18 of thenovelty holder 10 allows for various entertaining and exciting characters or objects to be viewed and grasped by the individual thereby invoking feelings of fun, comfort and enjoyment. Affixers are comprised of but not limited to hook and loop fasteners, snaps, or buttons. When the affixers are fastened together, openings on two opposing ends are formed wherein a long, cylindrical frozen confection namely an ice pop, can be inserted. The dual openings allow for positioning of the novelty holder anywhere on the frozen confection. -
FIG. 3 In the preferred embodiment of the invention, thefront side 18 is comprised of an entertaining object or character that may or may not be lined or have appendages orprotrusions 22 filled with stuffing comprised of cotton, polyester, or plastic pellets or beads. A polyester orcotton fill layer 24 enhances the appearance of the novelty holder by adding to the holder's 10 three dimensional properties while simultaneously creating additional insulation against extreme temperatures. The back side of the 20 of thenovelty holder 10 is comprised but not limited to cotton, polyester, or plastic material. Obviously the addition of more layers adds to the three dimensional properties of the fun, soothing character or object as well as the holder's insulating properties. Another embodiment of theinvention 10 comprises of only one layer wherein various appendages andprotrusions 22 are attached thereby creating an entertaining, soothing, fun frozen confection holder. -
FIG. 4 shows thenovelty holder 10 unfastened therein exposing thefront side 18 of theholder 10 as well as thehook affixer 16. -
FIG. 5 shows another embodiment of theinvention 10 formed into an open cylinder and having no affixers attached to the front or back side of the holder wherein the front side and back side have been defined in the detailed description ofFIG. 2 . Additionally, the novelty holder has openings on two opposing ends wherein a long, cylindrical frozen confection namely an ice pop, can be inserted. The dual openings allow for positioning of the novelty holder anywhere on the frozen confection. The novelty holder is comprised of but not limited to cotton, elastic, polyester, plastic or rubber.
