Abstract

The invention refers to an antimicrobial brush, preferably an antibacterial toothbrush provided with silver thread that, when connected to a power supply, it emits silver ions having antimicrobial effect.

Description

  • The present invention refers to brushes, especially but non-limiting to an antibacterial brush provided with a silver thread to be used in the medical field, mainly in the field of oral hygiene. Similar brushes may be also used in other fields to increase the effectiveness of the brushing and cleaning process.
  • PRIOR ART
  • The periodontal disease is caused by a series of microorganisms producing a bacterial pellicle in the oral cavity, especially around teeth. The problem consists in the fact that there was not found an effective solution to avoid the long-term administration of antibiotics to control the plurality of microorganisms involved in the process that results in progressively destruction of periodontal ligaments and/or deterioration of the alveolar bone.
  • THE TECHNICAL PROBLEM
  • The control of bacteria involved within the etiology of the periodontal disease may be carried out by using antibiotics administered by different means, although an effective therapy is difficult to establish and the adverse effects of such a treatment are well-known. The efficiency of antibiotics is reduced, as not all microorganisms respond to the same antibiotic. It would be desirable to find a solution by which the periodontal disease be controlled, yet avoiding the use of antibiotics.
  • The present invention solves this problem by carrying out a brush made of bristles, a mounting support for said bristles and optionally, a handle, brush provided with a silver thread emitting silver ions. By dental brushing that makes use of this antimicrobial brush, it is possible to control the periodontal disease.
  • THE INVENTION DISCLOSURE
  • The antibacterial properties of silver are wellknown, as silver has been successfully used ever since Antiquity to sterilize drinking water. The use of filters made of ceramics, covered with silver, in order to sterilize water is also known.
  • At the same time, it is known the use of silver nitrate in medicine in order to prevent ocular diseases, for example, conjunctivitis.
  • Silver is successfully used as antibacterial agent in many fields.
  • An object of the present invention is a brush comprising: bunches of bristles mounted on a support, surrounded by silver thread connected to a power supply of low strength and voltage and, optionally a handle. When using the brush, a current of low strength and voltage passes through the silver thread, leading to the delivery of silver ions that activate the antibacterial action.
  • The repeated use of this brush contributes to the prophylaxis and even fighting against the periodontal disease.
  • THE ADVANTAGES OF THE INVENTION
  • The unspecific antibacterial action of the brush provided with silver thread that delivers silver ions leads to the disinfection of the bacterial pellicle and, consequently, it is possible to fight against the periodontal disease.
  • THE WAY OF CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
  • In a preferred variant for carrying out the invention it is provided a brush comprising a head, bristles and a handle, eventually, whereat around the bunches of bristles of said brush it is provided silver thread, for example of about the tenth part of a millimeter. The bristles may be of plastic material. The silver thread is connected to a power supply.
  • The process for carrying out the brush discloses the winding, by using known means, of the silver thread around the bunches of bristles. The bunches of bristles are mounted by using known means on a mounting support, whereafter the ends of the silver thread are being connected to the power supply, for instance to the poles of a battery.
  • The repeated use of said brush will lead to the delay of occurring or, even to the prophylaxis of the periodontal disease. The prevention and/or delay of this disease occurrence has important positive effects on people's life quality.
