The lower ends of the plates I6, Ilia of the standard are joined at one side by a rivet or coupling pin which prevents a spreading of said plates, and at the same time permits the swinging movement of the lever into the space 36 between adjacent faces of the plates when in the collapsed position shown in Fig. 4.
In the use of the tool, it will be understood that the part 28 of the lever may be raised and lowered in the post or standard ID to dispose the pivot pin 26 in either one of the offsets 23, 24 and 2 5, the same being shown in the offset 25 in the construction shown in Fig. 1. the head 36 is placed beneath thehand grip- I3 of the sash l2 and downward pressure is applied on the part 3| of the lever which will operate to disengage a binding or sticking sash l2. In this connection, it will also be understood that the pin 26 may be disposed in either one of the apertures 2'! to increase or decrease the length of the protruding end of the lever part28 with respect to the standard, or as seen in Fig. 6 of the drawing, a lever part 28a similar to the part 28 may have in its lower edge a series of recesses 31 to engage the pin 26' to provide this adjustment without removing the pin 26 from the standard or body l6.
It will be understood that while I have illustrated the device as used for the purpose of. raising or freeing window sashes, the same may be .used for any other purpose as a jack or lifting tool, and while I have shown certain details of construction for carrying my invention into eifect,
and modifications of the construction herein shown and described may be made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificingits advantages.
