Abstract
A necktie has a main body section and knot which are comprised of relatively rigid pressed leather. A collar is also provided, which is fixedly connected at one end to the knot, and which has a second end which is permitted to pass through the knot and to exit below the main body section, where it forms a grasping region for a user. A design may be embossed on the front portion of the main body section.
Description
- The present invention relates generally to neck ties and, more particularly, to a pressed leather tie and method capable of having an image embossed thereon.
- Neckties are a highly common article of men's clothing. A typical prior art necktie consists of a tapered tie body, comprised of silk or a synthetic material. The body is positioned around the collar of a wearer and knotted in front, so that the widest portion of the tie body descends in front. Prior art ties are typically dyed or otherwise colored, so that a design is visible thereon.
- Prior art ties are comprised of a lightweight, flexible material, such as silk or a synthetic fabric. During wear, the tie body may become wrinkled. In addition, during wear, the front portion of the tie body may become displaced because of wind, the posture of the wearer, or otherwise, so that it is no longer presented in the most desired orientation.
- The present invention is directed to a pressed leather tie and method, having a number of advantages as compared to prior art ties.
- In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, a necktie is disclosed. The necktie comprises, in combination: a main body section; a knot positioned proximate an upper portion of the main body section; wherein the main body section and knot are comprised of pressed leather; and a collar having a first end and a second end; wherein the first end of the collar is fixedly coupled to the knot; and wherein the second end of the collar is permitted to pass through the knot and to exit behind the main body section, where it is exposed to a user as a grasping section.
- In accordance with another embodiment of the present invention, a necktie is disclosed. The necktie comprises, in combination: a main body section; a knot positioned proximate an upper portion of the main body section; wherein the main body section and knot are comprised of pressed leather; a collar having a first end and a second end; wherein the collar is comprised of pressed leather; wherein the first end of the collar is fixedly coupled to the knot; and wherein the second end of the collar is permitted to pass through the knot and to exit behind the main body section, where it is exposed to a user as a grasping section; and an embossed design located on a front surface of the main body section.
- In accordance with a further embodiment of the present invention, a necktie decoration method is disclosed. The method comprises: providing a main necktie body section; providing a knot positioned proximate an upper portion of the main body section; wherein the main body section and knot are comprised of pressed leather; providing a collar having a first end and a second end; wherein the first end of the collar is fixedly coupled to the knot; and wherein the second end of the collar is permitted to pass through the knot and to exit behind the main body section, where it is exposed to a user as a grasping section; and embossing a design on a front surface of the main necktie body section.
-
FIG. 1 is a front view of a pressed leather tie consistent with an embodiment of the present invention. -
FIG. 2 is a rear view of a pressed leather tie consistent with an embodiment of the present invention. -
FIG. 3 is a rear view of a pressed leather tie consistent with an embodiment of the present invention in a knotted configuration, illustrating passage of an end of the collar portion through the knot portion. -
FIG. 4 is a rear view of a pressed leather tie consistent with an embodiment of the present invention in a loose configuration, illustrating passage of an end of the collar portion through the knot portion. -
FIG. 5 is a front view of a pressed leather tie consistent with an embodiment of the present invention, having an embossed design located on a marginal area of the main portion of the tie body. -
FIG. 6 is a front view of a pressed leather tie consistent with an embodiment of the present invention, having an embossed design located on the main portion of the tie body. - Referring first to
FIGS. 1-4 , a pressed leather necktie 10 (hereinafter “tie 10”) consistent with an embodiment of the present invention is illustrated. Thetie 10 comprises amain body section 12, aknot 14, and anadjustable collar 16. Theadjustable collar 16 is fixedly coupled at a first end to theknot 14, and a second end of thecollar 16 is permitted to pass through theknot 14 and to exit behind themain body section 12, where it is exposed as agrasping region 18. Thegrasping region 18 may terminate in agrasping tab 20. - At least the
main body section 12 andknot 14 are comprised of a relatively rigid, pressed leather material. Thecollar 16 may be comprised of the same material or, optionally, may be comprised of a flexible material for enhanced comfort. - Referring now to
FIGS. 5-6 , in one embodiment, a design 22 may be embossed on the exposed surface of themain body section 12, for decorative purposes. Such a design may be presented in a wide variety of ways. For example, as shown inFIG. 5 , a design 22 a has been embossed on themain body section 12, around a marginal area of the exposed surface of themain body section 12. InFIG. 6 , an example is presented of adesign 22 b that is presented on the exposed surface of themain body section 12, near a lower portion thereof. The design 22 may occupy a larger surface area of themain body section 12, a smaller surface area, may comprise a combination of a marginal and more centered design, and so forth. - In use, a wearer will pull the
collar 16 so that the second end is pulled out of theknot 14, until thecollar 16 is sufficiently large to permit thetie 10 to be positioned over the head of a wearer and into position around a wearer's shirt collar. Once in position, a wearer may hold theknot 14 and, simultaneously, grasp thegrasping region 18 and/or thegrasping tab 20 and pull downward, tightening thecollar 16 in position. - It should be noted that while the
tie 10 has been illustrated as shown inFIGS. 1-6 , the present invention could be embodied in a tie having the configuration of a bowtie as well. - Although particular embodiments of the invention have been described in detail for purposes of illustration, various modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Accordingly, the invention is not to be limited, except as by the appended claims.
