Abstract
Description
- The invention concerns a cartridge chamber with cooling channels.
- A drum-type barrel weapon is known, for example, from DE 195 01 003 C2, and a drum revolver is known from DE 196 24 400 A1.
- EP 0 731 330 B1 discloses a revolver drum of a revolver cannon and a cooling device. Proceeding from U.S. Pat. No. 2,801,575, it is proposed that connecting tubes be integrated between individual cooling channels.
- A disadvantage is that these channels and connecting lines are produced by expensive deep-hole drilling, which also includes unnecessary access drill holes.
- Therefore, the objective of the invention is to provide a different means of creating the cooling channels.
- Pursuant to his objective, one aspect of the present invention resides in a cartridge chamber for a weapon or a revolver cannon, wherein at least one cooling channel is milled on a peripheral surface of the cartridge chamber. In one embodiment of the invention at least two cooling channels are milled on the surface. In another embodiment, the cooling channel is helically milled in the surface.
- In still another embodiment, the length and the width of the cooling channels can be individually selected.
- Milled channels are present in one section of the cartridge chamber. The cooling channels can be closed on themselves or can be helically milled as a single channel.
- The invention is based on the idea of adapting the drum cooling to the geometry of the drum and of milling the cooling channels on the surface of the individual cartridge chamber(s). In this way, the cooling channels can be milled on the freely accessible surface, and the disadvantages enumerated above are eliminated.
- Not only is production simplified, but also a better seal is created. In addition, a greater number of cooling channels can be provided, and the length of the channels can be made variable. Moreover, a better cooling capacity can be realized by a more uniform distribution of the cooling channels.
- The solution is suitable for all weapons and cannons whose cartridge chambers can be manufactured from a separate part and which are installed in a cannon tube or modular revolver cannon in a subsequent production process.
- The invention is explained in greater detail below with reference to the specific embodiment illustrated in the drawings.
-
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a cartridge chamber. -
FIG. 2 is a partial sectional view of the cartridge chamber ofFIG. 1 . -
FIG. 3 shows a graph of the milled recess. -
FIG. 1 as well asFIG. 2 shows a stylized view of acartridge chamber 1 withcooling channels 3 milled on the periphery or on theperipheral surface 2. Thecooling channels 3 are preferably located in only one section of thecartridge chamber 1. Thesecooling channels 3 can be closed upon themselves or can also be helically milled as a single channel. - The
cartridge chamber 1 can be part of a drum (not shown) with several cartridge chambers. -
FIG. 3 shows a possible course of the milled recesses on theperiphery 2 of thecartridge chamber 1 fromFIGS. 1 and 2 . - Although the present invention has been described in relation to particular embodiments thereof, many other variations and modifications and other uses will become apparent to those skilled in the art. It is preferred, therefore, that the present invention be limited but by the specific disclosure herein, but only by the appended claims.
