Description

    PRIORITY CLAIM TO RELATED APPLICATION
  • To the fullest extent permitted by law, the present nonprovisional patent application claims priority to and the full benefit of provisional patent application entitled “Decorator Storage/Display System of Pegs & Board”, filed on Dec. 12, 2.005, having assigned Application Ser. No. 60/750,796.
  • BASIC DESCRIPTION
  • This patent introduces an adaptability and further utility to standard pegboard systems. To date pegboard used by commercial outlets and homeowners must be mounted on studs (load bearing), away from a wall to allow for insertion of metal hooks. It also must be used in the 4′×8′ sheets in which it is sold. This invention incorporates the functional aspects of conventional pegboard with the size and ease of installation of framed pictures and the versatility of aesthetically pleasing decorator pegs.
  • This patent is considered a utilitarian patent as it contains a novel and unique use or configuration of existing items.
  • This invention relates to the field of devices for storing and displaying a wide array of household/office items as well as personal possessions and keepsakes. Such an invention provides a functional and attractive display which promotes the organization and un-cluttering of homes and offices.
  • While the overall theme of the invention is an improved pegboard system, the primary objective is to provide a unique decorator storage/display system. This invention allows for an endless variety of decorator pegs and accessories to be added to the basic kit.
  • Limitations of Existing Storage/Display Systems
  • In an ever-expanding commercialized society in which mementos/keepsakes are accumulated in ever increasing numbers, there is a need for an organization system that can accommodate a wide variety of goods in all shapes and sizes.
  • One traditional way of displaying merchandise is the “pegboard”, which is a registered trademark of Masonite. Pegboard is planar board that is usually composed of ⅛″ or thicker hardboard that has been drilled to provide spaced horizontal and vertical rows of openings, generally positioned at 1″ intervals. The hooks have L-shaped end portions that are inserted through the pegboard openings and pivoted down for support against a rear surface of the pegboard. To allow for the insertion of the hooks, traditional pegboards need to be mounted away from the wall.
  • Such boards are usually designed for use in workshops, garages, etc. and thus are particularly designed to hang various types of tools. One problem with such boards is that they are not designed for use within a house, so as to display items in bedrooms, kitchens and the like.
  • Bulletin boards are also very popular, but limited in their usage. Only extremely lightweight objects can be attached to the bulletin board using designated thumb tacks and push pins. The problem with this system is that the tacks and pins are sharp and dangerous and can be a real hazard if they are dropped and then stepped upon.
  • Currently, there is no convenient system in which to store and display household/office and keepsake items in an attractive, simple and inexpensive way. This invention addresses this need in a manner that is appealing, fun, creative and safe.
  • OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
  • To create an attractive, inexpensive, functional system for displaying and storing household/office and keepsake items.
  • To provide a way to display one or a variety of decorative boards throughout the home or office.
  • To provide a system that allows for personalization and customization of the storage/display boards and accessories by offering “blanks” that can be decorated by children and adults.
  • To crate a storage/display system that facilitates locating a particular object when needed.
  • To create a storage/display system that is simple to manufacture and use, but which may be manipulated to permit storage or suspension of objects of different sizes and shapes.
  • To provide a storage/display system that has interchangeable components that can be easily relocated and reattached.
  • To create a storage/display system that can be accessorized with picture frames, mirrors, shelves, magnetic/memo/bulletin boards, boxes, decorative items, hooks, brackets and the like.
  • To create a storage/display system that is lightweight, picture-size, safe, hangs directly on any wall or door and does not need load-bearing walls for support.
  • To create an ongoing, ever-expanding way of marketing by encouraging unstructured home-based parties, that meets a need of the traditional birthday party craft.
  • How This Invention is Different
  • There are many patents involving various pegboard systems, however, non of them have the versatility to be hung virtually anywhere in the home or office.
  • What is needed and what this invention supplies is a storage/display system that is aesthetically pleasing, lightweight, easy, safe to use and can accommodate objects in a variety of shapes, sizes and functions.
  • The board, frame, pegs and accessories can be manufactured from a variety of materials, such as, but not limited to plastic, acrylic, wood, metal, resin, foam board, mirror or composite. Because the invention itself is simple, the manufacturing costs are low, making this an inexpensive solution to the storage/display problems in homes and offices.
  • ILLUSTRATIVE DRAWINGS
  • This invention may be embodied in the form illustrated in the accompanying drawings noting that the drawings are illustrative only and that changes may be made in the specific construction:
  • FIG. 1 is a front view of decorator board according to the preferred embodiment of the present invention;
  • FIG. 2 a is a side view of a peg according to the preferred embodiment of the present invention;
  • FIG. 2 b is a front view of a peg according to an alternate embodiment of the present invention;
  • FIG. 2 c is a front view of a peg according to an alternate embodiment of the present invention;
  • FIG. 3 a is a front perspective view of a decorative insert according to an alternate embodiment of the present invention;
  • FIG. 3 b is a front perspective view of a shelf insert according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention;
  • FIG. 3 c is a front perspective view of a hook insert according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention;
  • FIG. 4 a is a rear perspective view of the decorative insert of FIG. 3 a;
  • FIG. 4 b is a rear perspective view of the shelf insert of FIG. 3 b;
  • FIG. 4 c is a rear perspective view of the hook insert of FIG. 3 c;
  • FIG. 5 a is a rear perspective view of the decorator board of FIG. 1, showing an alternate support stand configuration; and
  • FIG. 5 b is a rear perspective view of the decorator board of FIG. 1, showing a preferred hanging support configuration.
  • While certain novel features of this invention have been shown and described, it is not intended to be limited to the details above, as it will be understood that various omissions, modifications, substitutions and changes in the forms and details of the devices illustrated can in their operation can be made by those skilled in the art without departing in any way from the spirit of the invention.
