Abstract
A paper roll storage device includes a columnar container holding rolls of paper stacked such that the axes of the rolls are parallel to each other. The rolls of paper have center axial openings typically formed by a cardboard cylinder at the center used to support the paper. The container is generally rectangular in cross-section. One of the sides of the container has an opening near the top. The opening is large enough for a roll of paper to be inserted or removed from the container. A slot extends from the opening vertically downward along the front of the container. The rolls of paper are positioned and located in the cylinder so that the center axial openings face the slot.
Description
- Rolled paper (e.g. toilet paper and paper towels) is commonly used by people in the home and in other places. Rolled paper availability is typically desirable close to the location of use.
- Toilet paper is dispensed, in general, close to the location of use. Toilet paper, however, is often stored some distance away from the dispenser and location of use. For example, toilet paper is commonly stored in cabinets such as cabinets under sinks, storage closets, linen closets, basement storage, etc. Accordingly, when the roll of paper in the dispenser is depleted, a replacement roll may be difficult to retrieve.
- A number of conventional storage solutions involve axial stacking of toilet paper over a rod on a stand. Another conventional storage solution involves axial stacking of the toilet paper in a cylindrical container. Additional conventional solutions involve adding storage capabilities to paper dispensers. Each one of these conventional solutions, however, suffers from one or more of the following disadvantages: the paper is not protected inside a container and the paper is difficult to remove from the storage device.
- It remains desirable to have a storage paper storage device to hold and protect a number of rolls of paper and from which a roll may be easily removed.
- The problems of conveniently storing paper rolls such as toilet paper are solved by the present invention of a paper roll storage device.
- A paper roll storage device includes a columnar container holding rolls of paper stacked such that the axes of the rolls are parallel to each other. The rolls of paper generally have center axial openings typically formed by a cardboard cylinder at the center used to support the paper.
- Embodiments of the present invention include a container having a base, a top, a front, a back, and two sides. The container is shaped and configured to hold a paper roll such that the axis of the paper roll is substantially perpendicular to the front of the container. The storage device further includes an opening in the front of the container. The opening is positioned close to the top of the container, and the opening is sized and configured to enable the paper roll to be inserted and removed from the container. The storage device also includes a slot extending downward from the opening toward the base of the container. The slot exposes an axial hollow in the paper roll stored in the container such that the paper roll is removable from the storage device by inserting a finger through the slot and into the axial hollow of the paper roll and lifting the paper roll up and out of the container through the opening. This embodiment has the benefit that the paper roll is easily removable from the container with only a single finger.
- In an alternative arrangement, the container is shaped and configured to hold a plurality of paper rolls in a stack in which the axes of the paper rolls are substantially parallel to each other and perpendicular to the front of the container. In this way, a plurality of paper rolls are made readily available from the storage container.
- In a further alternative arrangement, the container includes a curved base shaped and configured to hold a paper roll. The curved base accommodates the curvature of the paper roll enabling a better fit of a plurality of paper rolls in the storage device.
- In a further alternative arrangement, the paper roll storage device includes a slot that has arcuate opening edges, and an arcuate end. The curved edges and end ease the process of extracting a roll of paper from the storage device.
- In an alternative embodiment of the storage device, an upper portion of each side of the container has a concave curvature around the opening. This provides an enlarged access to the container enabling a roll of paper to be more easily inserted or extracted from the storage device.
- Embodiments of the storage device have a variety of mounting methods. In a first arrangement, wall-mounting fixturing is located on the back of the container. In a second arrangement, wall-mounting fixturing is located on one of the sides of the container. In a third arrangement, the storage device includes a floor stand. In one embodiment of the floor stand, parallel ridges are embedded in the base of the container. In a second embodiment of the floor stand, the storage device is fixed to a rigid rod attached to a base that is configured to rest on a floor. In a first arrangement, the base includes a rigid rod to hold the container. In a second arrangement, the base includes a plurality of feet, e.g. four feet, one at each bottom corner of the container.
- In a further alternative embodiment of the invention, the storage device includes a plurality of apertures in at least one of the sides, front and back of the container. In an alternate arrangement, at least one of the sides, front, back, top and bottom is made of a stiff mesh material. Both the plurality of apertures and the mesh material embodiments provide additional ventilation for the storage device by providing for greater air circulation through the container.
- Embodiments of the storage device include embodiments made of various materials. Some embodiments of the storage device are made of disposable materials. The storage device may be made of a plastic material, wood, metal, ceramic, glass, paper or a combination of these materials. In one arrangement, the storage device is made of an air freshening paper.
- Further alternative embodiments of the invention include at least one additional compartment for holding an air freshening substance or for holding moist towellettes.
- The present invention together with the above and other advantages may best be understood from the following detailed description of the embodiments of the invention illustrated in the drawings, wherein:
