Abstract
A turning puzzle ball includes a plurality of slidable members, and a plurality of rails. The slidable members form a hollow sphere. Each of sides of each of the rails is slidably mounted between corresponding sides of two adjacent slidable members.
Description
- 1. Field of the Invention
- The present invention relates to magic tubes, and particularly to a turning puzzle ball.
- 2. Background of the Invention
- A puzzle device which is highly popular is that sold under the trademark RUBIK'S CUBE in which a main cube is divided into groups of minor cubes of nine cubes disposed three by three along each face of the main cube. Each of the groups of cubes is independently rotated about an axis perpendicular to the plane of the group. The axes of the groups are orthogonally related. The faces of the minor cubes are variously colored and it is the general object of the puzzle to successively rotate the groups about their respective axes from a random arrangement of the minor cubes to a condition wherein the minor cubes achieve a predetermined arrangement, for example with the faces of the minor cubes in a group being of the same color.
- Currently, there're two types of Rubik's cubes. One is cubic, and the other is spheric. Groups of the cubic type of Rubik's cubes can rotate only in two directions. Groups of the spheric type of Rubik's cubes can rotate in three directions, such as Hungarian-Globes, Magic Balls, K-Ball, and so on. However, parts of each group of the Rubik's cubes could not disassembled. Thus, it is inconvenient in using the Rubik's cube.
- What is needed is to provide a turning puzzle ball which is convenient to be used.
- A exemplary turning puzzle ball includes a plurality of slidable members, and a plurality of rails. The slidable members form a hollow sphere. Each of sides of each of the rails is slidably mounted between corresponding sides of two adjacent slidable members.
- Other objects, advantages and novel features of the invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which:
-
FIG. 1 is an exploded, isometric view of a group of a turning puzzle ball in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the turning puzzle ball includes a plurality of groups of slidable members, rails, shafts, and decorating slices; -
FIG. 2 is an isometric view of the slidable members ofFIG. 1 ; and -
FIG. 3 is an isometric view of the rails and the shafts ofFIG. 1 . - Referring to FIGS. 1 to 3, a turning puzzle ball in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present invention includes eight triangular and cambered slidable members, twelve long and cambered
rails 2, sixshafts 3, and a plurality of decoratingslices 4. The slidable members enclose a hollow sphere. Therails 2 are located between every two adjacent slidable members. Theshafts 3 are located between corners of the slidable members. Three decoratingslices 4 are mounted to each slidable member. Thedecorating slides 4 are colored. - Each slidable member includes an inner
slidable member 12, an outerslidable member 14, and abracket 16. The innerslidable member 12 and the outerslidable member 14 are mounted together via the bracket 6. The innerslidable member 12, the outerslidable member 14, and themountable bracket 16 can be mounted together by screws or rivets. Each side of the innerslidable members 12 defines aslot 122 therein. - Each
rail 2 has a T shape. Therail 2 includes abody 22, connectingportion 24 extending inwardly from a lengthwise center of thebody 22, and a pair ofhooks 222 extending downwardly from opposite lengthwise sides of thebody 22. Each of thebrackets 16 has three arms (not labeled) perpendicular to one another. - Each
shaft 3 includes a pair oftabs shaft 3. Areceiving slot 36 is defined between thetabs decorating slice 4 includes a plurality ofprotrusions 42 extending inwardly therefrom for engaging with a corresponding outerslidable member 14. - In assembly,
hooks 222 of therails 2 are placed between innerslidable members 12 and the corresponding outerslidable members 14. Thebracket 16 is placed to an inner surface of the innerslidable member 12. Eachbracket 16, a corresponding innerslidable member 12, and a corresponding outerslidable member 14 are mounted together by screws or rivets (not shown). Edges of therails 2 are slidably located between the innerslidable member 12 and the corresponding outerslidable members 14. Thehooks 22 of therails 22 are slidably engaged in theslots 122 of the innerslidable members 12. Ends of each of thebracket 16 are mounted to threerails 2 that are perpendicularly to one another. Eachshaft 3 is located among ends of thecorresponding rails 22. Thus, a hollow sphere is shaped. The decoratingslices 4 can be mounted to an outer surface of the outerslidable members 14 to decorating the sphere. The turning puzzle ball can slide along three rails. The rails are perpendicular to one another. In work, edges of the innerslidable members 12 can slide through thereceiving slots 36 of theshafts 3. - Furthermore, the slidable members can be connected by ribs and dents between two adjacent slidable members. Numbers of the decorating slices can be 1, 2, or 4, and so on. And different colors of decorating slices can be replaced.
- It is believed that the present embodiments and their advantages will be understood from the foregoing description, and it will be apparent that various changes may be made thereto without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention or sacrificing all of its material advantages, the examples hereinbefore described merely being preferred or exemplary embodiments of the invention.
