Abstract
A rocking chair includes a base, an elastic member, a seat, and a back joined to the seat; the elastic member connected to the base at a lower end thereof, and it is made in such a way as to be capable of rocking in any desired direction; the seat is connected to an upper end of the elastic member such that it can rock together with the elastic member while the base is still; the seat further can turn on the elastic member; the base has a rear extension portion, which is right under the back such that the chair will be steady when the seat is rocking.
Description
- 1. Field of the invention
- The present invention relates to a rocking chair, more particularly one, which is made in such a way that the base will stand still while the seat is rocking, and that the seat can be rocked in any direction according to the sitter's need.
- 2. Brief Description of the Prior Art
- Referring to
FIG. 1 , aconventional rocking chair 10 includes aback 101, aseat 102 joined to theback 101, four supportinglegs 104 connected to theseat 102,armrests 103 connected to upper ends of the supportinglegs 104, andcurved bars 105 connected to-lower ends of the supportinglegs 104 for allowing thechair 10 to rock. - The rocking
chair 10 can only be rocked forwards and backwards, and the sitter has to stand up and move the chair if he wants to make the chair face in another direction. Therefore, the rockingchair 10 has relatively limited functions, and it isn't convenient to use. - It is a main object of the present invention to provide an improvement on a rocking chair, which is more convenient to use than the conventional one.
- The rocking chair of the present invention includes a base, an elastic member, a seat, and a back joined to the seat. The elastic member is connected to the base at a lower end thereof, and it is made in such a way as to be capable of rocking in any desired direction. The seat is connected to an upper end of the elastic member such that it can rock together with the elastic member. Consequently, while seated in the chair, one can rock the seat in any direction according to his need. The seat further can turn on the elastic member. The base has a rear extension portion, which is right under the back such that the chair will be steady when the seat is being rocked.
- The present invention will be better understood by referring to the accompanying drawings, wherein:

FIG. 6 is a partial vertical section of the present rocking chair. - Referring to FIGS. 2 to 6, a preferred
embodiment 1 of a rocking chair includes aseat 11, aback 111 securely connected to theseat 11, anelastic member 12, and abase 13. - The
base 13 has a substantially oval shape, and it has arear extension portion 131. - The
base 13 has a substantially oval shape, and it has arear extension portion 131, and a connecting portion in front of therear extension portion 131. - The
elastic member 12 is connected to the connecting portion of thebase 13 at a lower end thereof such that it can rock when external force is exerted thereon. Furthermore, theelastic member 12 has an uppermost disk part (not numbered) at an upper end, which is formed with three locatingcavities 121 near to the edge on the upper side thereof; the locatingcavities 121 include a middle rear one, and left and right ones in front of and on two sides of the rear one. Furthermore, the disk part is formed with two stoppingprotrusions 122 on the upper side, which are next to the left and the right locatingcavities 121 respectively. - The
seat 11 is connected to a middle portion of the uppermost disk part of theelastic member 12 at a center of gravity thereof such that it can turn on theelastic member 12, and such that theextension portion 131 of thebase 13 is right under theback 111. Therefore, theseat 11 can be made to rock in any direction together with theelastic member 12 according to the sitter's need. In addition, a locatingunit 112 is arranged on a lower side of theseat 11 for preventing theseat 11 from turning, which locatingunit 112 includes apin 113, and a spring connected to thepin 113 for making thepin 113 downwards stick out from- theunit 112 and into a selected one of the locatingcavities 121 of the uppermost disk part of theelastic member 12. - Therefore, the
seat 11 can be turned within a certain range, which is defined by the two stoppingprotrusions 122 of the uppermost disk part of theelastic member 12, and thepin 113 of the locatingunit 112 will pass into one of thecavities 121 to help locate theseat 11 after theseat 11 has been turned to face in a new direction. And, because of theelastic member 12, the user can rock theseat 11 in any desired direction. - From the above description, it can be easily understood that the rocking chair of the present invention has advantages as followings:
- 1. The present rocking chair has a simpler structure and few parts than the conventional one, and it is easy to assemble.
- 2. While seated in the chair, the user can rock the seat in any direction according to his need.
- 3. The
seat 11 of the rocking chair can be turned on theelastic member 12 therefore the sitter doesn't have to stand up and move the whole chair to face in a different direction, and the chair is convenient to use. - 4. The substantially
oval base 13 has theextension portion 131, which is right under theback 111, therefore the chair will be steady when the seat is rocking.
Claims (3)
1. An improvement on a rocking chair, comprising
a base having a connecting portion;
an elastic member connected to the connecting portion of the base at a lower end thereof so as to be capable of being rocked in selected ones of various directions;
a seat connected to an upper end of the elastic member so as to be capable of rocking together with the elastic member while the seat is still; the seat being capable of turning on the elastic member; and
a back connected to the seat;
the connecting portion of the base, to which the elastic member is connected, being in such a position that the chair will be steady when the seat is rocking.
2. The rocking chair as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the elastic member is formed with a plurality of spaced apart locating cavities near to an edge thereon, and it is formed with two stopping protrusions respectively next to leftmost and rightmost ones of the locating cavities while the seat has a locating unit on a lower side, which includes a pin, and a spring connected to the pin for making the pin downwards stick out from the locating unit and into a selected one of the locating cavities of the elastic member; the locating unit being going to hit the stopping protrusions during a rotational movement of the seat.
3. The rocking chair as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the base has a rear extension portion, which is behind the connecting portion and under the back.
