Abstract
A protective railing includes a frame, a railing body, a lockset, two fix unit and plural position members. The position members secure the frame to a doorframe or in a passageway. If the railing body is to be opened, a push button on a grip is shifted to move a deadbolt inward to separate from an insert hole of the railing body, and then the grip is pressed down to move up a rack together with a connect tube, with a stop block of the rack and the connect tube separate from between two stoppers of the fix unit, unlocking the lock set to let the railing body opened. To lock the lockset, after the railing body is closed, the push button is shifted outward to move the deadbolt to insert in the insert hole of the raining body, finishing locking process.
Description
- 1. Field of the Invention
- This invention relates to a protective railing, particularly to one consisting of a frame, a railing body, a lockset, a fix unit and plural position members. The position members secure the frame with a doorframe or in a passageway. If the railing body is wanted to be opened, a push button on a grip is shifted inward to force a deadbolt retreat inward and separate from an insert hole of the railing body. Then the grip is swung downward, moving up a rack and a connect tube to separate stop blocks of the rack and the connect tube from between two stop blocks of the fix unit so that the railing body may be opened. If the railing body is to be locked after closed, the push button of the grip is moved outward, shifting outward one end of the deadbolt to insert in the insert hole of the railing body, finishing locking the railing body.
- 2. Description of the Prior Art
- In order to prevent a baby or a pet from crawling or walking out of a room or the like for avoiding potential dangers caused by fidgeting something or crawling near to a stairways, a railing of a proper height is installed with a doorframe or in a passageway, confining a baby or a pet in a limited safe space. Conventional railings are generally pivotally connected to a doorframe at one side, and the other side is provided with a latch possible to extend in a latch hole on the doorframe at the corresponding spot. Then the railing can be temporarily locked by the latch inserted in the latch hole. If the railing closed is to be opened, the latch is shifted out of the latch hole of the doorframe. Anyway, this kind of locking the railing is not so sure to be locked by the latch, often not correctly inserted in the latch hole, letting the railing liable to be opened, not obtaining true protection for a baby or a pet.
- The purpose of the invention is to offer a protective railing possible to be locked without fail to truly obtain protection for a baby or a pet (or pets).
- The feature of the invention is a frame provided with a pivotal base with a pivot, two pivots also on a lower portion of the frame, a railing body fixed inside the frame and having one side rod provided with a shaft hole respectively in an upper end and a lower end for the shafts of the frame to fit in. The railing body further has an opening in a right side and a guide rod with an insert hole provided in the opening. The side rod of the railing body is hollow, having a slot in one side of a lower end section. A lockset is positioned in the opening of the railing body, and a fix unit is fixed on a vertical rod of the inner side of the frame. Plural position members are provided respectively at four corners of the frame.

FIG. 8 is an upper view of the lockset under locked condition with the railing body closed in the present invention. - A preferred embodiment of a protective railing in the present invention, as shown in
FIGS. 1, 2 , 3 and 4, includes aframe 1, arailing body 2, alockset 3, afix unit 4 andplural position members 5 as main components combined together. - The
frame 1 is U-shaped, having apivotal base 10 on an upper side, apivot 11 fixed on thepivotal base 10, apivot 12 also fixed on a lower side to corresponding to thepivot 11. - The
railing body 2 is fixed inside theframe 1, having ashaft hole 20 respectively in an upper side and a lower side for thepivots railing body 2 pivotally with theframe 1, Therailing body 2 further has anopening 21 in an upper section of one side, and acurved guide rod 22 fixed in theopening 21. Theguide rod 22 has aninsert hole 23, as shown inFIG. 6 . Therailing body 2 has a vertical sidehollow rod 24 closing the opening 21, and theside rod 24 has aslot 25 formed in a lower end, andplural holes 26 near the upper end. - The
lockset 3 is fixed on the opening 21 of therailing body 2, consisting of aleft housing 30, aright housing 31, arack 32, agrip 33, apush button 34, adeadbolt 35, acover 36, aconnect tube 37, aspring 38, and astop block 39, as shown inFIG. 2 . - The
left housing 30 has pluralsidewise posts 300 on an inner surface, asidewise shaft 301 also on the inner surface, anelongate aperture 302 in a vertical side. The right housing hasplural holes sidewise posts 300 and thesidewise shaft 301, andscrews sidewise shaft 301 and theholes 311. Theright housing 31 further has anelongate aperture 313 in a vertical side, and theright housing 31 and theleft housing 30 are combined tightly together by ascrew 314. - The
rack 32 hasplural teeth 320 on one side surface, and astop block 321 on the other side surface and fitting in theaperture 302 of theleft housing 30 and theaperture 313 of theright housing 31. Therack 32 further has asidewise hole 322. - The
grip 33 has the left end extending in the left and theright housing shaft hole 330 in one end for thesidewise shaft 301 of theleft housing 30 to fit therein, and plural projectingteeth 331 formed on an curved outer surface of the end with theshaft hole 330 for engaging withteeth 320 of therack 32. Thegrip 33 further has aslide slot 332 in the center portion, agroove 333 in the right end to fit with theguide rod 22 of therailing body 2, and ahole 334 in the wall of thegroove 333. - The
push button 34 is fitted in theslide slot 332 of thegrip 33, having aninsert hole 340 in the lower portion. - The
deadbolt 35 is movably positioned in thegrip 33, having the right end fitting in theinsert hole 334 of thegrip 33 and aprojection 350 to fit in theinsert hole 340 of thepush button 34. - The
cover 36 has twoupright position plates 361 in parallel for a portion of thedeadbolt 35 to movably located in the gap between the twoplates 361 to move straight back and forth, agroove 362 in the right end to align to thegroove 333 of thegrip 33 for fitting with theguide rod 22 of therailing body 2. Thegroove 362 has aninsert hole 363 in its wall for the right end of thedeadbolt 35 to extend in or out. - The
connect tube 37 is positioned in the interior of theside rod 24 of therailing body 2, having its upper end connected to the lower end of therack 32, atransverse hole 370 for apin 371 to extend therein and also through theholes connect tube 37 with therack 32. - The
spring 38 is positioned in a inner lower portion of theconnect tube 37, having its one end fixed in theconnect tube 37 and the other end hooking the lower edge of heside rod 24 of therailing body 2, keeping theconnect tube 37 elastically biased downward. - The
stop block 39 is fixed at the lower end of theconnect tube 37 and partly located in theslot 25 of theside rod 24. - The two
fix units 4 are fixed respectively on an upper end and a lower end of a rightvertical side rod 13 of theframe 1, consisting of abase 40, twostoppers 41, twosprings 42 and afix base 43, as shown inFIG. 3 . Thebase 40 has two lengthwiseholes 400 in parallel, an opening 401 in the rear side for theside rod 13 to fit in, and alateral hole 402 through the rear side for along bolt 403 to insert therein, and avertical hole 404 between the twoholes 400 for a screw to screw with. The twostoppers 41 are positioned in the twoholes 400, having the front end formed with aslanting surface 410, projectingposts 411, and twosprings 42 positioned at the rear end and having the front end fitting around the projectingposts 411. Thefix base 43 is positioned behind thebase 40, having anopening 430 to correspond to the opening 401 of thebase 40, twosidewise posts 431 for the rear ends of the twosprings 42 to fit around, twolateral holes 432 in two side walls for theelongate bolt 403 to pass through and engage with anut 403′. - The four
support members 5 are combined with the four corners of theframe 1, respectively consisting of a threadedrod 50, anut 51 and aposition head 52. - In using, referring to
FIGS. 5, 6 , 7 and 8, first, the protective railing is secured to a doorframe 6 or in a passageway, adjusted by rotating the threadedrods 50 of thesupport members 5 to move outward or inward to let theposition heads 52 tightly push against the wall surface of the doorframe 6 or the passageway, then thenuts 51 rotated to push tightly against theposition heads 52. Thus, the protective railing is fixed tightly with the doorframe 6 or the passageway, as shown inFIG. 5 . - Next, if the
railing body 2 is wanted to be opened, thepush button 34 of thegrip 33 is shifted to retreat thedeadbolt 35 in thegrip 33 and disengaging from theinsert hole 23 of theguide rod 22. Then thegrip 33 is pressed down, with the projectingteeth 331 contained in theleft housing 30 and theright housing 31 rotated to move up and also move therack 32 meshing with theteeth 31. Then therack 32 pulls up theconnect tube 37 at the same time, with thespring 38 pulled to a lengthened condition. Meanwhile thestop block 321 at one side of therack 32 moves up together with thestop block 39, separating from the twostoppers 41 of thefix units 4, as shown inFIG. 7 . Then thelockset 3 is unlocked, permitting therailing body 2 to be opened by a user. After therailing body 2 is opened, thegrip 33 is released manually, and thespring 38 recovers its resilience to shrink to its original position, with theconnect tube 37 together with therack 32 moving down and with theteeth 320 of the rack bringing theteeth 331 of thegrip 33 down, and with the other end of thegrip 33 rotating upward to its original position with the function of thesidewise shaft 301. - Next, when the
railing body 2 is closed, as shown inFIG. 8 , the stop blocks 321 and 39 of theside rod 24 of therailing body 2 compress thestoppers 41 of thefix unit 4, with the slantingsurfaces 410 pushing thestoppers 41 towards thebase 40 and with thestoppers 41 compressing thespring 38 to shrink until the stop blocks 321 and 39 come to contact with the twostoppers 41. Then thespring 38 may recover its resilience to push the twostoppers 41 outward, letting the two stop blocks 321 and 39 kept immovable between the twostoppers 41. Then thepush button 34 on thegrip 33 is shift outward, forcing thedeadbolt 35 move outward and insert in theinsert hole 23, as shown inFIG. 6 , which shows therailing body 2 is locked by thelockset 3. In this way, therailing body 2 is locked completely, impossible to be opened unless the lockset is unlocked, keeping a baby or a pet from crawling out of the room limited by this railing. - While the preferred embodiment of the invention has been described above, it will be recognized and understood that various modifications may be made therein and the appended claims are intended to cover all such modifications that may fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.
Claims (5)
1. A protective railing comprising:
a frame provided with a pivotal base on an upper side, said pivotal base having a pivot, said frame also having a pivot fixed on a lower side rod corresponding to said pivot of the pivotal base;
a railing body positioned in said frame, having a left side rod provided with a shaft hole in an upper end and a lower end and an opening formed at an upper section of a right side, a guide rod fixed in said opening and having an insert hole, a right side rod positioned at the right side and closing said opening, said right side rod being hollow and having a slot in its lower end section;
a lockset fixed on said opening of said railing body;
two fix units fixed on an upper end and a lower end of a vertical support rod positioned at an inner side of said frame; and,
A plurality of position members fixed at four corners of said frame.
2. The protective railing as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said frame is U-shaped.
3. The protective railing as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said lockset consists of a left housing, a right housing, a rack, a grip, a push button, a deadbolt, a cover, a connect tube, a spring and a stop block;
said left housing having a sidewise shaft on its inner surface, an elongate aperture in one vertical side;
said right housing having an insert hole corresponding to said sidewise shaft of said left housing, and an elongate aperture formed in a vertical side, screws screwing tightly in said sidewise shaft of said left housing and in said insert hole of said right housing;
said rack having plural teeth on one side surface and a stop block on the other side surface, said stop block extending in said elongate apertures of said left and said right housing;
said grip having a first end positioned in said left and said right housing, said first end of said grip having a shaft hole for said sidewise shaft of said left housing to fit therein and plural teeth formed on an outer surface to engage with said teeth of said rack, said grip further having a slide slot in a center section and a second end formed with a groove to fit with said guide rod of said railing body, a hole formed in the wall defining said groove;
said push button positioned in said slide slot of said grip;
said deadbolt positioned in said grip and having a first end extending in said hole of said grip;
said cover positioned under said grip and having two upright parallel plates limiting said deadbolt movable straight in a gap between said two upright plates, said cover further having a first end provided with a groove fitting with said guide rod of said railing body, a hole formed in the wall defining said groove for a second end of said deadbolt to fit through therein out;
said connect tube connected to a lower end of said rack and extending in said side rod of said railing body;
said spring positioned in a lower portion of said connect tube and having a first end fixed inside said connect tube and a second end hooking a lower edge of said side rod of said railing body so as to keep said connect tube elastically biased downward; and,
said stop block fixed at a lower end of said connect tube and extending partly in said slot of said side rod of said railing body.
4. The protective railing as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said fix unit respectively consists of a base, two stoppers, two springs, and a fix base:
said base having two parallel lengthwise holes and an opening in a rear portion to fit with a vertical rod of said frame;
said two stoppers fitting in said two lengthwise holes of said base and respectively having a front end formed with a slanting surface and a post extending rearward;
said two springs positioned behind said two stoppers and having a first end fitting around said post and a second end fitting around a post at a front end of said fix base; and,
said fix base positioned behind said base and having an opening facing rearward and the two posts at the front end for the second end of said two springs to fit around.
5. The protective railing as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said position members respectively consist of a threaded rod, a nut and a position head.
