Abstract
A holding device includes a U-shaped base fixed on a wall and including a first protrusion and a second protrusion. A receiving space is defined between the two protrusions. The first protrusion has a hole defined in an inside thereof and a clamping member is eccentrically received in the first protrusion and a part of the clamping member is movably extended through the hole and protrudes into the receiving space. A shank of a tool is received in the receiving space and clamped by the clamping member and the second protrusion.
Description
- The present invention relates to a holding device using an eccentric clamping member to clamp a tubular item between protrusions.
- A conventional holding device for holding shanks of tools generally includes a base with two protrusions and the shank is held between the two protrusions. Each protrusion includes a rack which is installed to an inside of the protrusion inclinedly and a clamping member having a toothed outer periphery is movably engaged with the rack such that the shank can be clamped by the clamping member. The structure is complicated and involves rack and toothed clamping member, both of which have to be made by specific machine and this makes the holding device be expensive which is not competitive in the market.
- The present invention intends to provide a holding device having simple structure and able to hold shanks of tools of different sizes.
- The present invention relates to a holding device which comprises a U-shaped base with a first protrusion and a second protrusion and a receiving space is defined between the protrusions. The first protrusion has a hole defined in an inside thereof and a clamping member is longitudinally received in the first protrusion. The clamping member has an eccentric shaft which has one end connected to the first protrusion and the other end of the eccentric shaft is connected with a torsion spring. The clamping member has a part movably extending through the hole and protrudes into the receiving space.
- The present invention will become more obvious from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings which show, for purposes of illustration only, a preferred embodiment in accordance with the present invention.

FIGS. 3 and 4 show that a shank is clamped by the holding device of the present invention; -
FIG. 5 is a perspective view to show that the shank is clamped by the holding device of the present invention; -
FIG. 6 shows a back board is used to connect the holding device of the present invention on a wall; -
FIG. 7 shows another embodiment for connecting the holding device on a wall; -
FIGS. 8 and 9 show that the steps for hanging the holding device on a wall; -
FIG. 10 shows the number of clamping members of the holding device can be multiple, and -
FIG. 11 shows yet another embodiment for connecting the holding device on a wall. - Referring to
FIGS. 1 and 2 , the holding device “A” of the present invention comprises aU-shaped base 10 with a first protrusion and asecond protrusion 110 extending from a front end thereof and the rear end of thebase 10 is an open end. Areceiving space 12 is defined between theprotrusions 11 and 110 so as to clamp a shank therein as shown inFIG. 5 . The first protrusion 11 has ahole 13 defined in an inside thereof and aconnection tube 15 extends from an inner end of the first protrusion 11. Aclamping member 20 is longitudinally received in the first protrusion 11 and has aneccentric shaft 21 which has a first end connected to theconnection tube 15 in the first protrusion 11 and a second end of theeccentric shaft 21 is connected with atorsion spring 30. Aprojection 23 extends from theeccentric shaft 21 and ahook member 16 is connected on a transverse board located at the rear end of thebase 10. One end of thetorsion spring 30 is hooked to thehook member 16 and the other end of thetorsion spring 30 engaged with theprojection 23, such that theclamping member 20 is maintained in a position where a part of theclamping member 20 movably extends through thehole 13 and protrudes into thereceiving space 12. Theclamping member 20 has afriction band 22 such as a rubber band, wrapped thereto and A plurality offriction strips 14 extend from an inside of thesecond protrusion 110, so that the shank can be clamped by thefriction band 22 and thefriction strips 14. - As shown in
FIG. 6 , aback board 43 is fixed on a wall byscrews 44 and two threadedreception tubes 45 extend from theback board 43. Twoguide tubes 41 extend from the transverse board so that two bolts (only one is shown) extends through theguide tubes 41 and are connected with thereception tubes 45. By this way, thebase 10 is fixed on the wall. - As shown in FIGS. 3 to 5, the shank of a tool is inserted in the
receiving space 12 from a lower position and the movement of the shank pushes theclamping member 20 into thehole 13 and the shank is released, the friction of thefriction band 22 and thefriction strips 14 can hold the shank as shown inFIG. 5 . - As shown in FIGS. 7 to 9, another embodiment for connecting the
base 10 on a wall comprises twoconnection plates 46 connected to twoguide tubes 41 and tworeception frames 47 are fixed on a wall. Eachreception frame 47 has a U-shaped receiving space comprising twoside grooves 471 and anend wall 472 between the twoside grooves 471 so that one of the twoconnection plates 46 is engaged with the U-shaped receiving space. -
FIG. 10 shows that the base may include multiple protrusions and clampingmembers 20 so as to hold multiple shanks of tools. -
FIG. 11 shows yet another embodiment of the present invention wherein theeccentric shaft 21 includes alongitudinal slot 23 such that one end of thetorsion spring 30 is engaged with theslot 23 and the other end of thetorsion spring 30 is hooked to thehook member 16 on the transverse board located at a rear end of thebase 10. Aperipheral wall 17 extends from the transverseeccentric shaft 21 so that the second end of theeccentric shaft 21 of theclamping member 20 is enclosed by theperipheral wall 17. Acover 50 is connected to theperipheral wall 17 so as to prevent foreign objects from entering the space enclosed by theperipheral wall 17. Theperipheral wall 17 includes arecess 18 defined in an inside thereof and thecover 50 includes a protrusion which is engaged with therecess 18. - While we have shown and described the embodiment in accordance with the present invention, it should be clear to those skilled in the art that further embodiments may be made without departing from the scope of the present invention.
Claims (9)
1. A holding device comprising:
a U-shaped base with a first protrusion and a second protrusion and a receiving space defined between the protrusions, the first protrusion having a hole defined in an inside thereof and a clamping member longitudinally received in the first protrusion, the clamping member having an eccentric shaft which has a first end connected to the first protrusion and a second end of the eccentric shaft connected with a torsion spring, the clamping member having a part movably extending through the hole and protruding into the receiving space.
2. The holding device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the clamping member has a friction band wrapped thereto.
3. The holding device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein a plurality of friction strips extend from an inside of the second protrusion.

The holding device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the base includes a hook member on a transverse board located at a rear end of the base, a projection extending from the eccentric shaft, one end of the torsion spring hooked to the hook member 16 and the other end of the torsion spring engaged with the projection.

The holding device as claimed in claim 1 further comprising a back board which is adapted to be fixed on a wall and two threaded reception tubes extending from the back board, two guide tubes extending from a transverse board located at a rear end of the base, two bolts extending through the guide tubes and connected with the reception tubes.

The holding device as claimed in claim 1 further comprising two connection plates connected to two guide tubes extending from a transverse board located at a rear end of the base, two reception frames adapted to be fixed on a wall and each having U-shaped receiving space in which respective one of the two connection plates is engaged.

The holding device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the eccentric shaft includes a longitudinal slot and one end of the torsion spring is engaged with the slot, a hook member is connected on a transverse board located at a rear end of the base, the other end of the torsion spring hooked to the hook member.

The holding device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the base includes a transverse board located at a rear end thereof and a peripheral wall extends from the transverse eccentric shaft, the second end of the eccentric shaft of the clamping member is enclosed by the peripheral wall, a cover connected to the peripheral wall so as to prevent foreign objects from entering the space enclosed by the peripheral wall.
9. The holding device as claimed in claim 8 , wherein the peripheral wall includes a recess defined in an inside thereof and the cover includes a protrusion which is engaged with the recess.
