By adding pH sensors that will interface with the motion sensors, the toilet will control and limit its flushing system to only when it has in fact been used. The result is a self-flushing toilet that does not go off anytime that the motion sensors are activated but only when they are activated and that there has been a changed in the composition of the water located inside the toilet bowl.

Abstract

A self cleaning toilet is constructed such that the water of the water closet is the power source and main element for the cleaning, drying, disinfecting and sanitizing of the toilet seat and toilet bowl (upper edge included). The toilet uses its cover lid and seat as its primary tools to accomplish all the operations described above. The optional self flushing system uses pH sensors working in conjunction with motion sensors to automatically activate the operations described above. The sonar sensors determine whether or not there is any solid waste inside the toilet bowl.

Description

  • This application claims priority of the date of the provisional application filled on Jul. 28, 2004. Application No. 60/591,584.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • Self cleaning, disinfecting, drying, deodorizing, sanitizing and motion activated toilets have been around for many years. However, their success has been somewhat limited due to cost issues that are related to their manufacturing process, installation and maintenance. Self cleaning toilets such as disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 3,837,018, U.S. Pat. No. 4,924,532 and U.S. Pat. No. 6,003,159 are some of those toilets that are intended to clean, disinfect, deodorize and sanitize the toilet seat; Unfortunately, because they use electric motor to power their systems and complicate design that require costly modifications of the configuration of bathrooms they have fail short of gaining far-reaching acceptance
  • Furthermore, their cleaning system is limited to the cleaning of the toilet seat only. And not only that they are difficult to maintain once you own them expensive to repair once damaged, their design is too far stretch from the mainstream toilets making them not appealing to private owners. That goes the same for motion activated toilets.
  • Motion activated toilets also have a major flow that has limited their success: they flush themselves every time that the motion sensors are activated; even if the toilet itself has not been used. This is a costly problem to the owner of the toilet because of waste of water.
  • BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • With the abovementioned, it is consequently the object of this invention to prevail over the limitation and drawbacks of the prior arts
  • One of the object of this invention is to provide a self powered self cleaning toilet that is manually operated and that uses the water of the water closet as its main element and its power source to power the cleaning, drying, disinfecting and sanitizing systems of the toilet every time that the flushing operation is in motion.
  • An essential object of this invention is to provide a toilet that uses the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat as its main components for the cleaning, disinfecting, deodorizing and sanitizing of the entire toilet
  • Another object of this invention is to provide an optional self flushing system that can be added to the cleaning, drying, disinfecting and sanitizing systems to create a self flushing and cleaning toilet that will self flush, clean, disinfect, dry, deodorize, sanitize itself only when the toilet has been used and not just when there has been movement around it.
  • An important object of this invention if to provide an optional self flushing system that uses pH sensors and motion detector sensors to automatically activate all the systems of the toilet.
  • An additional object of this invention us to provide a self cleaning toilet that further limit the waste of water by using sonar sensors to determine whether or not there is any solid waste in the toilet before deciding on the amount of water to be used for the flushing and the level of cleaning necessary.

To make certain of that, the lock wire will connect the flushing handle to a calculated point inside the toilet cover lid. That lock wire must be fully extended when the toilet cover lid is on its vertical position to prevent the flushing handle to move. And it should be loose when it is on its horizontal position. In the following descriptions, it is assumed that the toilet cover lid is resting on top of the toilet seat.

  • Detailed Descriptions of the Parts and Components
  • The brushes purpose is to scrub clean the toilet seat and the toilet bowl upper edge. They are organized in groups or series that are arranged parallel to the edges of the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat. A single brush design has an upper part made of rotary blades mounted horizontally and connected by a vertical axe to the lower part made of a brush's pad. The blades are inside the conduit closet one and two that are located inside the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat. For sanitary reasons the brushes' pad must be changed on a regular basis. One possible way of knowing when to change them is when the cleaning agent source has run out of cleaning agent.
  • The cleaning, disinfectant and deodorizing agent's purposes are to kill the germs on the toilet seat and the toilet bowl while deodorizing the entire toilet area. It is located on the exterior of the water closet inside a bottle and connected to the cleaning system via the cleaning agent regulator and the cleaning agent conduit.
  • The conduits purpose is to conduct the liquids (water and soap). They are hollow cavities that are arranged parallel to the edges of the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat with sizes that vary depending on the amount of water necessary to run inside them. There are three main conduits:
      • Inside the water closet there are the conduit closet, which carries the water that rinses the toilet seat and the toilet bowl upper edge and also powers the brushes; the cleaning agent conduit, which carries the cleaning, disinfectant and deodorizing agent; and finally the fan conduit, which carries the water that powers the fan of the drying system.
      • At the junction between the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat the conduit closet split itself in two: conduit closet one, which runs inside the toilet cover lid and conduit closet two, which runs inside the toilet seat
      • At the junction between the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat the cleaning agent conduit is also divided in two conduits that run inside the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat.
      • The water and cleaning agent conduits must connect the water and cleaning agent openings to their respective sources, which are the water closet and the soap regulator.
      • To facilitate the flow of soap and water, the conduits should be built with a downward slope; they may be adjacent or one within the other or even concentric.
  • The openings, which connect the conduits to the exterior, should be organized in groups or series, generally arranged parallel to the edges of the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat There are water, cleaning agent and air openings connected respectively to water, cleaning agent and fan conduits. These openings should be round holes, long slots and they should be shaped exits to direct the fluid and airflow.
  • The lock wire purpose is to assure that the toilet cover lid is closed before the systems can work. It connects the flushing handle to a point inside the toilet cover lid. It must be fully extended when the toilet cover lid is on its upright position and loose when it is on its horizontal position (closed). If the cover lid is not on its horizontal position closed, the lock wire prevents the flushing handle to move; making impossible for the systems to work.
  • The release wire connects the release button to the covers wire.
  • The covers wire purpose is to open and close the brushes' covers. It connects the spring of the brushes' covers to the flushing handle. A section of it will be inside the water closet and the remaining sections will be inside the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat. At the junction of the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat, it is divided into two wires that run separately inside both the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat.
  • The brushes' covers purpose is to cover the brushes as well as the openings (but not necessarily) while the cleaning system is not activated They open and close themselves respectively at the beginning and the end of the cleaning system. They are mounted at the bottom surfaces of the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat.
  • All valves are located inside the water closet and are connected to the flushing handle stick via lightweight chains and (just like the one use in today's mainstream toilet). In addition to the flushing valve, there are three others valves: a cleaning agent valve, a fan valve and a conduit closet valve closing respectively the cleaning agent conduit, the fan conduit and the conduit closet.
  • The pH sensors monitor the change in pH level of the water located inside the toilet bowl and communicate the data to the Control console.
  • The motion sensors monitor the movement around the toilet and communicate the data to the Control console. They are only necessary if the intent is to have a self-flushing, cleaning, drying, disinfecting and sanitizing toilet.
  • The sonar sensors monitor whether or not there is any solid waste inside the toilet bowl and communicate the data to the Control Console.
  • The Control Console activates all the systems of the toilet depending of the data received from the pH sensors, the motion sensors and the sonar sensors. It is only necessary when the intend is to have a fully automatic toilet that self flushes, cleans, disinfects, deodorizes and sanitizes itself without any manual assistance.
  • The fan purpose is to generate enough air to dry the toilet seat and the toilet bowl upper edge. It is made of two sets of rotary blades: blades set (1) and blades set (2), mounted horizontally and connected to each other by a vertical axe. These rotary sets of blades are inside two different chambers located inside the toilet cover lid. They are chamber 1 for blades set 1 and chamber 2 for blades set 2.
  • The cleaning agent regulator regulates the amount of cleaning agent that is going down the cleaning agent conduit.
  • The pressure pump purpose is to maintain the flushing handle at a predetermine height for a period of time so that all systems can work properly. It does it by allowing the flushing handle to hold up all wires and chains connected long enough for the systems to work and by gradually allowing it to go back to its original position.
  • The release button purpose is to be used when the brushes' pads need to be changed. This button is attached to the release wire, which is connected to the covers wire. By pulling on it, the brushes' covers of the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat will open while the toilet cover lid is on its upright position. The release button is located on the exterior surface of the toilet while the release wire will be inside the water closet.
  • The multi function bands have two purposes. Theirs primary purposes are to prevent the liquids from licking outside the toilet bowl. Their secondary purposes are to embellish the toilet. It gives the owner of the toilet the ability to custom color design its toilet as he/she wishes. They come in various color.
  • The jet spray converter jet releases the cleaning, disinfecting and deodorizing agent onto the toilet seat and the toilet bowl (upper edge included). It is located inside the toilet cover lid.
  • The steamer uses the water that is coming from the water closet to generate the steam that sanitizes the toilet seat and the toilet bowl (upper edge included). It is located inside the toilet cover lid.
  • The Cleaning System
  • There are two cleaning systems that are described below:
      • A. The Scrubbing system
      • B. The Jet Spray system
        A. The Scrubbing System
        Important Notes.
  • It is important to note that in the United States of America there is law requiring a 1.6 gallons limit on the quantity of water that can be flushed in the toilet. While building the Scrubbing cleaning system is important to redirect the water that is running inside the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat back to the water closet in the case that there is an excess of water. One way to do that is to direct the appropriate conduits back to the water source of the water closet or the water closet itself
  • The Scrubbing system uses brushes, jet spray water and a cleaning agent to clean the toilet.
  • Parts and Components
  • On the exterior surface of the water closet there are:
      • A cleaning, disinfectant and deodorizing agent
      • The cleaning agent regulator
      • The release button.
        Inside the water closet there are:
      • A section of the cleaning agent conduit with its valve
      • The conduit closet with its valve
      • The pressure pump
      • A section of the covers wire that connects the flushing handle to the brushes' covers
      • A section of the lock wire, brushes' wire and finally the release wire.
        Inside the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat there are:
      • The brushes
      • The remaining sections of the cleaning agent conduits
      • Conduits closet one and two
      • The remaining section of the covers wires and lock wire (inside the toilet cover lid only)
      • The springs.
        At the bottom surface of the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat there are:
      • Cleaning agent and water openings
      • Brushes' covers
  • The cleaning system of the toilet is activated by pushing on the flushing handle of the toilet. Once it has been pushed, the toilet flushing handle will pull the brushes' covers wire, which will then pull the springs located around the brushes' covers of the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat and in the process, releasing the brushes as well as the openings of both the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat. At the same time the valve that is closing the conduit closet will open allowing a calculated amount of water that is coming from the water closet to be run down the conduit closet. That water is then divided and run separately inside the conduit closet and two of the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat. While running inside the conduit closet one and two, that water will be forcing the blades of the brushes in a movement of rotation. By rotating, the blades will force the brushes' pad that are connected to them and mounted at the bottom surface of the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat to rotate also. Through their rotation movement, the brushes will scrub clean, respectively, the toilet seat and the toilet bowl upper edge. To clean the inside of the bowl, extended brushes' legs are attached to the brushes that are located inside the toilet seat. These extended legs can be attached using wire(s), belt(s) and (or) also.
  • Whilst running inside both conduit closet one and two, a calculated amount of that water is released trough water openings, located at the bottom surface of both the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat, respectively onto the toilet seat and the toilet bowl's upper edge rinsing out all the soap and other residues inside the toilet bowl.
  • As soon as the toilet's flushing handle has been pushed the valve closing the cleaning agent conduit will open releasing a predetermine quantity of cleaning agent inside the cleaning agent conduit under the force of gravity. At the junction between the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat, the cleaning agent conduit is divided into two separated cleaning agents conduits: one going inside the toilet cover lid and the other inside the toilet seat While running inside the two cleaning agent conduits, that cleaning agent is then released through cleaning agent openings located at the bottom surface of the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat respectively onto the surface of the toilet seat and the toilet bowl upper edge. It will then run down inside the toilet bowl. The cleaning agent will clean and disinfect the toilet seat and the inside of the bowl (upper edge included) while deodorizing the entire toilet area.
  • B. The Jet Spray System
  • The Jet Spray system uses a cleaning, disinfecting and deodorizing agent that is jet spray onto the toilet seat and the toilet bowl (upper edge included). The difference between this system and the Scrubbing system is that there are:
      • No brushes
      • No brushes' covers
      • No lock wire
      • No release wire
      • No conduit closet
      • No springs
  • Parts and Components
  • On the exterior surface of the water closet there are:
      • A cleaning agent bottle
      • The cleaning agent regulator
        Inside the water closet there are:
      • A section of the cleaning agent conduit with its valve
        Inside the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat there are:
      • The remaining sections of the cleaning agent conduit
      • Jet spray converter, which will jet release the cleaning, disinfecting and deodorizing agent
        At the bottom surface of the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat there are:
      • Cleaning agent openings
  • As soon as the toilet's flushing handle has been pushed, the valve that is closing the cleaning agent conduit will open releasing a predetermine quantity of the cleaning, disinfecting and deodorizing agent inside the cleaning agent conduit. That cleaning, disinfecting and deodorizing agent will then run inside the jet converter which will jet spray it onto the toilet seat and the toilet bowl's interior and upper edge cleaning and disinfecting it while at the same time deodorizing the toilet area
  • The Drying System
  • There are two drying systems that are described in this section:
      • A. The Fan Dry system
      • B. The Air Dry system
        A. The Fan Dry System
  • The Fan Dry system uses a fan to generate the air that will dry the toilet seat and the toilet bowl upper edge
  • Parts and Components
  • Inside the water closet there is
      • A section of the fan conduit with its valve.
        Inside the toilet cover lid there are:
      • The remaining section of the fan conduit
      • The fan made of two sets of blades: blades set (1) and blades set (2).
        At the bottom surface of the toilet cover lid there is:
      • Air openings exits
        On the top surface of the toilet cover lid there is:
      • Air openings intakes
  • The Fan Dry system is made of a fan that is located inside the toilet cover lid. As soon as the toilet flushing handle has been pushed the valve closing the fan conduit will open allowing a predetermine quantity of water to run inside the fan conduit, which run from the water closet to the toilet cover lid inside a chamber called chamber one. That water will put in motion the Fan Dry system of the toilet by pushing blades set one that are located inside chamber one into a movement of rotation, which in turn will force blades set two to rotate as well The air generate by blades' set (2) will be released through air openings located at the bottom surface of the toilet cover lid. That air will dry the surface of the toilet seat and the toilet bowl upper edge.
  • For the drying system to be effective it must run a little longer than the cleaning system of the toilet. This is done by making sure that the water that is flowing inside chamber (1) through the fan conduit continues to flow well after that the conduit closet valve and the soap valve have closed themselves. By putting the fan valve below the conduit closet valve, it should close itself after the conduit closet's valve has closed itself, and by putting the soap valve at the closet distance possible to the flushing handle it should close itself before the fan valve does.
  • B. The Air Dry System
  • The Air Dry system uses the air that is surrounding the toilet to dry the toilet seat and the toilet bowl upper edge. It works by putting enough air openings intakes around the edge of toilet cover lid and the toilet seat.
  • The Optional Self Lfushing System
  • When this system is added to the systems described above, the result is an automatic toilet that self flushes, cleans, disinfects, deodorizes, dries and sanitizes itself without any manual assistance. The parts and components described below are in addition to whichever parts and components of the cleaning and drying systems described above with the exception of the toilet flushing handle. Since the toilet decide when and when not to flush itself the flushing handle is no more required. The Control Console is now the devise that start and end the systems of the toilet.
  • The sanitizing system uses a steamer that is placed inside the toilet cover lid and control by the Control Console. Once the Control Console approves the sanitization of the toilet a predetermine quantity of water coming from the water closet is sent into the steamer via the steam conduit which will then release it in the form of steam through the steamer openings located at the bottom surface of the toilet cover lid.
  • Parts and Components
  • Inside the toilet bowl
      • pH sensors, which verifies that the toilet has in fact been used by monitoring the pH level of the water that is located inside the toilet bowl.
      • Sonar sensors, which monitors the presence of solid waste
        On the exterior surface of the toilet
      • Motion sensors
      • Control Console. The Control Console is the devise that controls the flushing, cleaning, drying and sanitizing system of the toilet.
        Inside the toilet cover lid
      • The steamer. The steamer creates the steam that sanitizes the toilet using a predetermine quantity of water coming from the water closet. It is located inside the toilet cover lid.
        At the bottom surface of the toilet cover lid
      • Steamer openings
  • Self-flushing toilets have been in use for years now. However it has been found extremely difficult and costly to adapt them for private use. The reason is because since those toilets are motion activated, they flush themselves anytime and every time that the motion sensors are activated. For a private owner, that translates to a waste of water due to unnecessary flushing of the toilet especially if it has not been used. By adding pH sensors that will interface with the motion sensors, the toilet will control and limit its flushing system to only when it has in fact been used. The result is a self-flushing toilet that does not go off anytime that the motion sensors are activated but only when they are activated and that there has been a changed in the composition of the water located inside the toilet bowl. The motion and pH sensors communicate together through the Control Console which determines whether or not to activate the systems of the toilet depending on the data received from the sensors. If there has been movement around the toilet and changed in the composition of the water that is located inside the toilet bowl, the flushing, cleaning, drying and sanitizing systems of the toilet that are described above will be activated. The sonar sensors monitors the presence of solid waste inside the toilet bowl and communicates the data to the Control Console, which then decides on the adequate amount of water necessary to flush the solid and the level of cleaning necessary.
  • This system also give the toilet the option to eclectically control the rotation of the brushes, the openings of valves, the releasing of the cleaning agent, the openings and closings of the brushes' covers and the opening and closing of the toilet cover lid.
  • Assumptions
  • The preceding descriptions are based on the assumptions:
      • That many brushes are in use;
      • That there is one conduit closet that becomes conduit closet one and two at the junction of the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat;
      • That there is one cleaning agent bottle located inside a cleaning agent regulator, which is mounted on the exterior of the water closet;
      • That there are many cleaning agent openings and one soap conduit that split itself in two at the junction of the toilet cover lid and the toilet
      • That there are many air openings exit, many air openings intake and one fan conduit for one fan
      • That there are three valves in addition the flushing valve: one cleaning agent valve, one fan valve and one conduit closet valve.
      • That there are two brushes' covers: one for the toilet cover lid and one for the toilets seat and one brushes' covers release wire, which becomes two separated wires at the junction of the toilet cover lid and the seat
      • That there is one release button and one release button wire which becomes two separated wires at the junction of the toilet cover lid and the toilet seat
      • That there is one lock wire connecting the toilet flushing handle to the toilet cover lid
      • That there is one pressure pump;
      • That there are two pH sensors located inside the toilet bowl
      • That there is one Control Console.
  • All these specifics can be changed and (or) modified without departing from the concept of this discovery.
  • One embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings. The invention includes all uniqueness residing in the description and drawings. Several alterations can be made without departing from the concept of this discovery.

1. A self cleaning toilet, comprising:
said a cleaning system that uses the water that is coming from the said water closet of said the toilet as its power source.
said a cleaning system that uses said jet spray liquid to clean said the toilet seat and said the toilet bowl
said a cleaning system that uses said the toilet flushing handle of said the toilet to manually activate the said cleaning system
said a cleaning system that uses said the toilet flushing handle of said the toilet to manually activate said the drying system
said a cleaning system that redirects said the excess of water back to said the water closet
said a drying system that uses the water that is coming from the said the water closet as its said power source
said a sanitizing system that uses said the is water coming from said the water closet of the toilet as its said sanitizing agent
said a sanitizing system that uses said a steamer
said a self flushing system that uses said pH sensors to monitor the change of the chemical composition of the water that is located inside said the toilet bowl before self flushing itself
said sensors that detect the presence of said solid waste inside said the toilet bowl.
