1 Claim.
'I'his invention relates to folding cases for pocket use and of the class generally comprising so-called billfolds, cigarette cases, card cases, et cetera, according to the use to which they are put by the owner.
My invention aims to provide a novel case having, among others, the novel features and advan-I tages hereinafter described.
In the drawings of one embodiment of my invention selected for description and illustrated herein, v
Fig. l is a plan of the case opened;
Fig. 2, a similar view showing a different arrangement of the pockets, and the case provided with a key rack;
Fig. 3, a similar view showing a stillfurther and different arrangement of the pockets; and
Fig. 4, a top edge view of the form shown in Fig. 3, with parts in section.
Referring to the drawings and rst to Fig. l, my novel case is shown as comprising a back and cover member I of suitable size and preferably of flexible material, as leather, adapted to fold vertically along the dotted line X substantially midway between theopposite side edges to form two panels, A, B.
The case. Fig. 1, is provided with a plurality of pockets 2, 3, opening at the opposite side edges of the case, by stitching pocket pieces to the back I along three edges of the former. The free edge 5 of each member 4 is cut back to facilitate access to the pocket.
The top, Fig. l, side and bottom edges of the case are provided with a sliding fastening member 6 of any conventional -forrn adapted to progressively engage and lock the adjoining free edges of the back member I simply by sliding the fastening member along the case edge which is provided with a series of cooperating ears, lugs or appropriate members 1, for that purpose. This case is suitable and convenient for use for bills, papers, cards, cigarettes, etc., and may be closed tight by the fastener described.
In Fig. 2 is shown' a modif-led form of case in which the back or cover Ia is provided with a hinged pocket piece 4a stitched along one and herein the left hand edge 8, dotted lines, to a lining 9 of the panel A of the cover, the top, side and bottom edges I0 of the hinged member 4a having a binding II, which is also extended somewhat over and upon the left hand portion, Fig. 2, of the lining 9 and panel A of the back or cover adjacent the member 4a, and securing the lining 9 in this case to the top and bottom edges of a sheet of transparent cover material I2 of suitable kind,
(Cl. 15G-39) 'and in the other cause the top and bottom and one side edges of a similar hinged .panel member |22 to the piece 4a, forming, respectively, panel and hinged pockets 2a, 3a, dotted lines, for automobile-identification elements, in which a single large card of any kind or two smaller cards, such as a time table, automobile registration identification or registration card., etc. may be placed for ready reference. Entrance to these pockets is beneath the left hand vedges I2a and I2b, respectively, of the transparent sheets I2, |22, and approximately at the fold line X for the pockets 2a Vand 3a, or at the outer left hand edge of the pocket 3a, for both pockets, successively, the two pockets forming a two-part, foldabiepocket when so used.
The lining of the right hand, Fig. 2, cover or back member I -may carry an automobile-identilisation-element carrier, as a key rack I3 with suitable clasps or hooks I3a thereon, of any convenient design for an automobile key. This case may have a strap-like member I4 for locking the hinged member 2a to the panel A, and may also be provided with a suitable progressively effective fastener 6, and lugs 1 along its edges therefor as in the case of that shown in Fig. 1, and as a further securing means for the described identifying elements, should they become detached from the securing means I3a on panel B, and securing pockets 3a anclv 2a upon the panel A and the hinged panel, Fig. 2, and it folds along the dotted line X-X.
In Fig. 3 is shown a case provided with a long pocket 2b provided by securing to a cover or back member I a pocket member 4b along its lower edge I6, and at one end, herein Fig. 3,`left hand, at II, leaving the top edge and right hand end, Fig. 3, of the member 4b unattached or free. A pocket 3b is provided by securing along the top, bottom and end edges, a strip I8, to the pocket piece 4b. A pocket 22 is provided at the right hand half of the back I by securing a pocket piece 23 along its top, bottom and right handV edges 24, with an opening thereto at 2M, dotted lines, Fig. 3. y
At or near the folding line, dotted lines X-X, Fig. 3, the piece 4b may have secured to it one or more, herein two, transparent pockets I9, shown in section for clearness, comprising parallel sheets 20 of transparent material secured 5 pocket 2 at the edge I4.
This case also may be provided with an additional automobile-identifying-element securing means, such as a slidable fastener I and lugs 1 already indicated and described for locking the edges of the panels in parallel relation to prevent loss of such identifying element, if it should become detached from its first-named carrier.
Either one of the described forms of my inven' tion has novel features in the arrangement of pockets and construction thereof and many uses and conveniences over articles of the class as at present manufactured.
My invention is not limited to the precise form here described and illustrated.
I claim:
A pocket case comprising a cover member, a lining therefor, the case foldable vertically to form two panels, one panel having on its inner face automobile-identifying-element securing rlneans; a second panel having additional modied means, said additional means comprising a pocket member with a transparent cover and a back, hinged vertically at its inner edge to the automobile-identifying-element securing' 2,oo4,e72 vthe fold line K X. Access maybe had to the second panel, adjacent the fold line of the case cover; the pocket ends and its free side closed.
with a binding which extends over, upon and is secured to the second panel of the case adjacent the fold line thereof; and said binding with the lining of the said second panel, and a transparent cover therefor, forming a. panel pocket with open sides, the inner side of the closed end panel pocket registering with the inner side of the closed end hinged pocket, and thereby, when used jointly, forming a two-part, foldable pocket i'or a longer automobile-identifying-element, the pocket having an opening at its. outer edge and also near the medial line of the case, whereby an automobile-identifying-element may be inserted at the outer edge of the panel pocket, or the inner edge of the hinged pocket and successively into both pockets for observation through the transparent covers; and a straplike member for locking the hinged pocket to the cover, thereby closing the outer side entrance to the panel pocket and the inner side entrance to the hinged pocket, and thus the foldable pocket; and a case-locking means on the case edge, as a further securing means for said elements.
