As opposed to current book covers, which are either designed simply to protect books from wear and tear without providing a decorative design, or are designed with bright colors and flashy motifs, this invention is aimed at book owners who want to transform their collection from a motley arrangement of books into a beautiful, formal library, with book covers that are consistently patterned and classically decorated.
Description
- This application claims the benefit of the Provisional Utility Patent Application No. 60/406,324 filed on Aug. 28, 2002.
- Not Applicable
- Not Applicable
- The field of endeavor to which this invention pertains is book covering for protective and decorative purposes. Applicable U.S. patent Classifications Definitions include 206/450 or 424. The subject matter of the invention is a book cover kit, which includes leather-looking, adhesive-backed paper covers, alphabet and decorative labels for labeling the covers with the title of a book and the author's name, and instructions for the same.
- Information known to the inventor that is related to the invention include book covers made of paper or fabric that protect books from wear and tear and/or provide bright decoration to the book. The following patented book covers represent the efforts of others to provide decorative and/or protective covers for books: 1) U.S. Pat. No. 5,129,522, “Denim book cover and kit for making same,” 2) U.S. Pat. No. 5,375,714, “Device to maintain vertical position of comic books and magazines during storage,” 3) U.S. Pat. No. 5,325,978, “Nesting magazine organizer,” 4) U.S. Pat. No. 5,056,663, “Adjustable protective book cover and method,” 4) U.S. Pat. No. 5,013,068, “Stretchable, water repellant book cover,” 5) U.S. Pat. No. 4,825,506, “Biblecase and bookcover,” and 6) U.S. Pat. No. 4,036,417, “Book cover and carrying device.”
- A specific problem involved in the prior art, which this invention is drawn toward is that other book covers have been made and used to protect books from wear and tear, but have not provided a decorative design for display of said books in a formal library. Other book covers that are decorative do not have designs that can be used in a formal library, rather the designs are of bright colors and flashy motifs.
- The invention comprises a decorative book cover kit entitled Create-A-Classic Book Cover Kit, which is comprised of an outer cardboard box designed to look like a large book; leather-looking paper covers; alphabet and decorative transfer labels for labeling the title of the book and the author's name; and instructions for the use of the book covers and labels.
- This invention is aimed at book owners who want to transform their books from an ordinary motley arrangement of cover colors, pictures, and patterns into a classic, formal, and uniform library by affixing to their soft and hardcover books, book covers that are consistently patterned and classically decorated, and that can be labeled to reflect a book's author and title. This invention provides a solution to the problem of having a disorganized, unattractive, collection of books not currently addressed by protective book covers. This invention will allow book owners to protect and decorate their books in a consistent and formal manner. Use of the kit will allow individuals to arrange their books in a color coordinated, sophisticated patterned display in order to create a classic, formal looking library.
- FIG. 1-4. Front View of Outer Cardboard Box.
- FIG. 2-4. Topside View of Book Cover.
- FIG. 3-4. Underside View of Book Cover.
- FIG. 4-4. Front View of Alphabet and Decorative Labels.
- The Create-A-Classic Book Cover Kit invention comprises a decorative book cover kit. The kit is encased in an outer cardboard box or packaging that is designed to look like a large book. The box contains the book covers, labels, and instructions for the use of the covers and labels.
- The book covers are comprised of a paper approximately 12″×24″ in size that look like leather on one side (the topside). The other side of the paper (the underside) is coated with adhesive, which is covered with a thin waxy paper, which can be peeled off to apply the cover to a book. The waxy paper, has a grid pattern printed on it for use in cutting the book covers to fit the book. The book covers will have linear and decorative designs with a blank space on the center portion, which will be the spine portion once applied to a book, where the title of the book and the author's name can be affixed.
- The kit is also comprised of alphabet and decorative labels for use in labeling the covers with the title of a book and the author's name. The labels are transfer labels that can be affixed/rubbed onto the spine of the books once the book covers have been applied to the book.
- The kit is also comprised of instructions for the use of the book covers and the labels.
- As opposed to current book covers, which are designed plainly for the single purpose of protection or designed with bright, flashy motifs, the Create-A-Classic Book Cover Kit will allow book owners to transform their books from an ordinary motley arrangement of cover colors, pictures, and patterns into a classic, formal, and uniform library by affixing to soft and hardcover books, book covers that are consistently patterned and classically decorated, and that can be labeled to reflect a book's author and title. The kit will allow individuals to arrange their books in a color coordinated, sophisticated patterned display in order to create a classic, formal looking library.
