Abstract
A wheel mount for a skateboard includes a base plate, a suspension body, a shock absorbing device and an axle. The skateboard has a platform with a top and bottom, and the base plate is adapted to be mounted on the bottom of the platform. The suspension body is mounted on the base plate, and the shock absorbing device is mounted between the base plate and the suspension body. A through hole is laterally defined in and extends through the suspension body. The axle extends through the through hole and is partially received in the suspension body. The axle includes two opposite ends, A wheel is rotatably mounted on each end of the axle. The axle is hollow to promote the strength of the axle.
Description
- 1. Field of the Invention
- The present invention relates to a wheel mount, and more particularly to a wheel mount for a skateboard.
- 2. Description of Related Art
- With reference to FIG. 4, a conventional wheel mount for a skateboard in accordance with the prior art comprises a suspension body (40) adapted to be mounted on a bottom of a platform (not numbered) of the skateboard and an axle (41) extending through the suspension body (40). The axle (41) is solid and includes two opposite ends (not numbered). A wheel (42) is rotatably connected to each end of the axle (41). At least one pin (44) extends into the suspension body (40) and radially penetrates the axle (41) to promote the stability between the axle (41) and the suspension body (40).
- However, the axle (41) bears any and all forces applied to the skateboard. When the user performs a jump or other action that results in the wheels (42) impacting an object, the axle (41) is often deformed and out of order. Consequently, the strength of the axle needs to be improved.
- The present invention has arisen to mitigate and/or obviate the disadvantages of the conventional wheel mount for a skateboard.
- The main objective of the present invention is to provide an improved wheel mount for a skateboard.
- To achieve the objective, the wheel mount includes a base plate, a suspension body, a shock absorbing device and an axle. The skateboard has a platform (not shown) with a top and bottom, and the base plate is adapted to be mounted on the bottom of the platform. The suspension body is mounted on the base plate, and the shock absorbing device is mounted between the base plate and the suspension body. A through hole is laterally defined in and extends through the suspension body. The axle extends through the through hole and is partially mounted in the suspension body. The axle includes two opposite ends. A wheel is rotatably mounted on each end of the axle.
- Further benefits and advantages of the present invention will become apparent after a careful reading of the detailed description with appropriate reference to the accompanying drawings.
- FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a wheel mount for a skateboard in accordance with the present invention;
- FIG. 2 is an exploded perspective view of the wheel mount for a skateboard in FIG. 1;
- FIG. 3 is a front cross sectional view of the wheel mount for a skateboard; and
- FIG. 4. is a side plan view in partial section of a wheel mount for a skateboard in accordance with the prior art.
- With reference to the drawings and initially to FIGS. 1 and 2, a wheel mount (10) for a skateboard in accordance with the present invention comprises a base plate (11), a suspension body (12), a shock absorbing device (13) and a hollow axle (20). The skateboard has a platform (not shown) with a top and bottom, and the base plate (11) is adapted to be mounted on the bottom of the platform. The suspension body (12) is mounted on the base plate (11), and the shock absorbing device (13) is mounted between the base plate (11) and the suspension body (12). In the preferred embodiment of the wheel mount (10), the shock absorbing device (13) is a resilient pad. A through hole (14) is laterally defined in and extends through the suspension body (12) and has two opposite ends (not numbered) with a series of longitudinal teeth (141) formed on the inside of each end. The hollow axle (20) extends through the through hole (14) and is partially mounted in the suspension body (12). The axle (20) includes two opposite ends. A wheel (30) is rotatably mounted on each end of the axle (20).
- To securely mount the axle (20) in the through hole (14) and keep the axle (20) from rotating, two series of longitudinal teeth (21) are formed on the periphery of the axle (20) to correspond to the teeth (141) inside the through hole (14). With additional reference to FIG. 3, the suspension body (12) has at least one bore (15) defined to diametrically communicate with the through hole (14). The axle (20) has at least one through hole (22) defined to correspond to the bore (15) in the suspension body (12). A pin (23) securely extends through the bore (15) in the suspension body (12) and the through hole (22) in the axle (20) to prevent the axle (20) from moving laterally in the suspension body (12). In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the pin (23) is a spring pin.
- Since the axle (20) of the wheel mount (10) as previously described is hollow, the strength of the axle (20) is promoted to lengthen the useful life of the skateboard.
- Although the invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that many other possible modifications and variations can be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
