ferring to Figures 2.and 3, for'the convenient unfastening of the snap catch 51, I provide a U-shaped piece of wire 58 which is secured in any' desired manner, as by so1dering,to-the ring 2|, the front portion thereof being inclined upwardly from the plane of the ring 2|. When the loop 51 and the wire 58 are grasped between two fingers and pressed together the cover 28 is opened.

Secured in place by the rim 61 is a pouchlike piece of pervious'material 68. v'I'his pouchlike piece of pervious material may. if desired be -of a single piece and formed into a surfacev of the second orderor it may be pieced material and desirably is made of cloth having a loose weave, or some similar substance suchvas the wire cloth from which strainers are made, so thatdt will be compressible or collapsible.
Considering now the use ofthe vanity case of Figure 1, the rim .61 and with it the entire dispensing and powder containing member 59 is removable from the bezel 6|, being normally resiliently-retained in the positionshown in Figur'e 1 by'means of indentations 69 forming pro jections extending inwardly from the surface of ,the cylindrical portion 62. Whenthe vanitycase is to be filled with powder the dispensing member 59is removed, and as much powder as desired .may be introduced intol the'compartment 64,
accuser amount of handling to which a vanity case is material 68 by pressing upwardly the bottom or the pouch 2li. In fact any amount of powder can readily be forced through by manipulation of these two iiexible members and by forcing them against the resilient pun @6.
Referring to Figures l and 2, it may be desired to enclose the pouch 2li in a protective or ernamental covering. To that end there is secured between the lower portion 23 of the ring 2l and the annular part Zlib of the material 2d a rim El of a ring l2 which also has a depending portion 73. 'Extending circumerentially around the del pending portion 13 are a plurality of evenly spaced holes for the attachment to the ring l2 of links 'it constituting the upper links of a mesh bag l which may be of metal or other suitable material. In assembling the portion 2th, the bezel member Si and the ring T12, with the ring 2i, the rim Si), the portion 2th and the rim 'li are located between the portions 22 and 23. in the manner shown, and these portions are then nrmly compressed together with a tool forcing the rims @il and li against the material 2Gb and securely holding Athese partsl together by the elasticity of the metal. A slight indentation is preferably caused in one or both of the rims, for example in the rim til by this operation, thus securely' holding the leather Zub to the metal parts.
Referring now specifically to Figure 2y instead of the dispensing member 59, I may provide a dispensing member 59a having a rolled-over or beaded annular portion 51a and a pervious bottorri 68a. Preferably the bottom part 6ta. is made of metal screening. The dispensing member 59a, which is dish-shaped as shown, has a somewhat more permanent shape than the dispensing member bei.
Referring now to Figures 3 and 42, there is therein shown a dispensing device 'Il having integrally formed therewith a rim 'i3 which may be like the rim t@ and connected to the ring 2l in the same manner. This dispensing device 'il is dish-shaped being shown as having cylindrical sides and a hat bottom. Comparing Figures 3 and 4 it will be noted that there is'a circular opening 19 eccentrically located in the bottom of the device ll. Pivotally fastened to this bottom by a rivet 80 at the center thereof is a disc .8l having a handle 82 by means of which it may be turned. Referring now to Figure 3, there is a cluster of holes 83 in the bottom of the member ll', and another cluster of holes B4 in the disc 8i.
The disc 8i likewise has a large circular opening a certain amount of powderto come through onto the pui 66. It is noted that powder can be caused to spurt through these holes by using the bag or pouch as a bellows.

The powder pun the compartment @i formed by the ner Ell normally seals the opening rThe forms tor itself a seat pile of the pun, thus making an eectual seal to the compartment Q2 .below the member 3l where the powder is located and which it may be readily introduced through the opening d@ by simply removing the pun. The same bellows action already described may be used for introducing a quantity or powder onto the puri ed, and in .tact mere carrying of the vanity case insures the deposit of sufdcient powder onto the puff through the opening Sill. In order that the seal already described may be at all times maintained when the cover 28 or the vanity case is closed, as shown. in Figure 5,'. the dimensions of the parts are deslrably such that the puff will be to a certain extent compressed.
As shown in Figure 5, a mirror @t is substituted for the rouge holding member Sie, and it interts with the retaining ring di inthe manneralready described. This mirror @t being irremovably xed in position and having no part swinging with relation to the cover piece renders the sealing of the vanity case of Figures 5 and 6 easily and quickly accomplished and the mirror serves to compress the puff into the position shown in Figure 5.
Referring now to Figure 6, desirably the ridge t@ is threaded as shown at tl, and a cap 35 with sifter openings t@ may be screwed imposition if desired. By the use or the sitter cap @t the amount of powder delivered to the puri @e is reduced. In connection with certain uses of the vanity case this may be desired. i
It is noted that the chain mesh enclosure 'l5 is shown in Figures l and 2 but not in Figures 4, 5 and 6. It should be understood that this ornamental and protective pouch may be used in connection with any of the modifications of the invention or omitted in any case. Certain specific advantages of using this mesh enclosure have been pointed out and nevertheless where a lighter or moreinexpensive device is desired, or Wherey It will thus be seen that there has been provided by this invention an article in which the various objects hereinabove set forth, together it be or a diderent cular ridge? te with many thoroughly practical advantages, are
successfully achieved. n
.As many possible embodiments may loe made of the above invention and as many changes mightl be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter hereinbefore set forth or shown in the accompanying drawings is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a lim iting sense.
I claim:
1. In an article of the class described, in combination, a ring substantially U-shaped in crosssection with the free ends facing inwardly, an
annular member of thin but relatively still? material secured in place between the said free ends of the ring, a flexible pouch of impervious material also secured between the free ends of the ring and below the said annular member, and a piece of pervious material constituting a sifter Ain said pouch and normally retained therein by said annular member.
2. In an article of the class described, in combination, a ring substantially U-shaped in crosssection with the free ends facing inwardly, an
annular member of thin but relatively stiff mate- `of pervious material constituting a sifter in said pouch and normally retained therein by said annular member, and a cover hinged to said ring at the outside thereof.
3. In an article of the class described, in combination, a ring substantially U-shaped in crosssection having the spaced free ends thereof facing inwardly, a flexible impervious pouch having its edge portion disposed within said ring between said ends, and means including a perforated part covering substantialy the mouth portion of said pouch and spaced from the bottom thereof, said means including an edge portion disposed between said ends of said ring, said ends being clamped against said edge portions of said means and said edge portion of said pouch to hold said pouch and said means in position.
4. In an article of the class described, in combination, a ring substantially U-shaped in crosssection having the spaced free ends thereof facing inwardly, a flexible impervious pouch `having its edge portion disposed within said ring between said ends, means including a perforated 'part covering substantially the mout-h portion of said pouch and spaced from the bottom thereof, said means including an edge portion disposed between said ends of said ring, said ends being clamped against said edge portion of said means and said edge portion of said pouch to hold said pouch. and said means in position, and a coverA hingedly secured to said ring.
6. in 'an article of the ciass described, in combination, a ring substantially U-shaped in cross-l section having the spaced free ends thereof facing` inwardly, a iiexible impervious pouch having its edge portion disposed within said ring between said ends, an annular flange member comprising a horizontal portion fitting between said ends of said ring, a verticai portion extending downwardly therefrom, and an inwardly extending portion spaced below said horizontal portion, said vertical portion having an annular ridge formed therein spaced above said inwardly ex^ tending portion, a ring part adapted to snap over said ridge portion and rest upon said inwardly extending portionfand a piece of pervious material secured to said ring part to separate they lower portion of said pouch from the upper'portion thereof. .I
7. In an article -of the class described, in combination, a ring member generally U-shaped in cross-section and having its free spaced ends exa flexible impermeable pouch having its edge portion disposed between said ends, and a flange member having a horizontal portion disposed betweensaid ends and a substantially vertical portion extending downwardly therefrom, an annular part having a horizontending inwardly,
. tal portiondisposed between said ends and a vertical portion extending downwardly 'adj acent the side of said pouch opposite of said flange member, said ends being clamped together to hold said horizontalportions of said liange member, said annularpart and said edge portion of said pouch so'thatthe portion of said pouch adjacent said ring member is' clamped between said vertical portions ofsaid flange-member and. said annular part, and means forming a powder sifter shaped to intert'with the vertical portion of said flange member to separate the upper and lower portionsvof said pouch.
8. In an article of the class described, in corn-l bination, a ring member generally U-shaped in cross-section and having its free spaced ends extending inwardly., a flexible impermeable pouch having its edge portion ends, a flange member having a horizontal portion disposed between said ends and a substantially vertical portion extending downwardly therefrom, an annular part having a horizontal portion disposed between said ends and a vertical portion extending downwardly adjacent the disposed between said the vertical portion side of said pouch opposite the verticallportion of said flange member, said ends being clamped together to hold said horizontal portions of said flange' member, said annular part and said edge portion of said pouch so that the portion-of said pouch adjacent said ring member is clamped between said vertical portions of `said flange member and said annular part, means forming a powder sifter adapted to interilt with the vertical portion of said flange member. to separate the upper and lower portions of said pouch, and a cover hingedly connected to said ring member.
9. In an article of the class described, in combination, a. ringsubstantially U-shaped in cross section having the spaced free ends thereof facing inwardly, ing its edge portion disposed within said Aring between said ends, anda cup-shaped member having substantially horizontal flange portions extending between said ends, said ends being clamped dwn upon said flange portions and said edge portion of said pouch, said cup member extending into saidpouch to separate the lower and upper portions thereof and having perforations formed in the bottom surface thereof.

In an article of the class described, in combination, a ring substantially U-shaped in crosssection having'the spaced free ends thereof facinginwardly, a flexible impervious pouch having its edge portion disposed within said ring between said ends, a cup-shaped member having substantially horizontal ilange portions extending between said ends,` said ends being clamped down upon said flange 'portions and said edge portion of said pouch, said cup-member extending into said pouch to separate the lower and upper portions thereof and having bination, a ring substantially U-shaped in crossperforations formed in the bottom surface thereof, and a disk rotatably mounted on the bottom of said cup member, said disk having perforations formed therein positioned to register with the perforations in the bottom of said cup member when said disk is 'in certain positions.
11. In an article of the class described, in combination, a ring substantially U-shaped in crosssection having the spaced free ends thereof facing inwardly, a flexible impervious pouch having its edge portion disposed within said ring between said ends, a cup-shaped member having substantially horizontal flange portions extending between said ends, said ends being clamped down upon said flange portions and said edge portion of said pouch, said cup member extending into said pouch to separate the lower and upper portions thereof and having perforations formed in the bottom surface thereof, andAa cover hingedly secured to said ring.
12. In an article of the class described, in comb ination, a ring substantially U-shaped in crosssection having the spaced free ends thereof facing inwardly, a 'flexible impervious pouch having its edge portion disposed within said ring between .said ends, a cup-shaped member having substantially horizontal iiange portions extending between said ends, said ends being y clamped down upon said flange portions and section having the spaced free ends thereof facing inwardly, a flexible impervious pouch having its edge portion disposed within said ring between said ends, a cup-shaped member having substantially horizontal flange portions extending between said ends, said ends being clamped down upon said iiange portions and said edge portion of said pouch, said cup member extending into said pouch to separate the lower and upper portions thereof, the bottom of said cup member having a threaded'hole formed therein, and a perforated cap member threaded over said hole.
14. In an article of the class described, in combination, a ring substantially U-shaped in cross-section having the spaced free ends thereof facing inwardly, a flexible impervious pouch having its edge portion disposed within said ring betweensaid ends, a. cup-shaped member having substantially horizontal flange portions extending between' said ends, said ends being clamped down upon saidlange portions and said edge portion of said pouch, said cup member extending into said pouch to separate the lower and upper portions thereof, the bottom of said cup member having a hole formed therein bordered by an upturned threaded flange, and a perforated cap member threaded over said ange. n
15. In an articler ofv thel class described, in combination, a ring member, a exible impenneable pouch connected to said ring member, a flange member connected to said ring member within said pouch and having an inwardly extending horizontal portion, said iiange member having a ridge formed therein spaced above the'l horizontal portion thereof, and a powder sifter including a ring adapted to snap under said ridge and rest on said horizontal portion.
