The object of my improvement is to provide a novel drop seat garment with a detachable elastic band. This invention may be applied to waist suits, union suits, sleeping garments and pajamas of all kinds. It is my object to provide a garment of this type having an improved construction with a drop flap seat which can be lowered and also to provide improved means for removing or inserting the detachable elastic band.

It is an especial object of my invention to provide an improvement upon the construction disclosed in my Patent No. 2,019,124 patented Nov. 5th, 1935.

I attain these and other objects of my invention by the means illustrated in the drawing, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the invention applied to a garment, portions of the garment being broken away; and one end of the detachable elastic band being unbuttoned and the buttoned end of the drop seat flap being pushed back on the band to fully show the members 8 and 15;

Fig. 4 is a section through the drop seat flap on line 4-4 of Fig. 1.

The drop seat flap 4 is provided with a substantially horizontal hollow fabric rib 5 and with a waist seam 6. Within rib 5 is a removable elastic band 9 which terminates in fabric ends or tabs 8, each of which is provided with a button hole ID.

The garment has downwardly extended side seams 6 and downwardly extending rear seams 6 and 6 as shown in Fig. 1 whereby the lower rear portion of the garment is formed in three sections.

Extending downwardly from the armpits of the garment are reenforcing side strips I9, to which the end portions of pin stays l5 are secured by the lines of stitching I2. Also secured by the lines of stitching I2 are the tapes or cords I3 by which the buttons M are secured to the garment. I provide a line of stitching H extending approximately from the ends of reenforcing strips I9 to the stitching designated 6 of which it is a continuation. The lines of stitching l8 extend around the ends of the hollow fabric rib 5 and down the edges of the drop seat flap to the point where that member joins the body of the garment, as shown in Fig. 3.

Several advantages result from this improved construction over what are found in garments made in accordance with my prior Patent 2,019,- 924. An important result of this improved construction is that the drop flap 4 may be dropped down when the drop flap is unbuttoned with obvious increased comfort in the use of the garment. The manufacture of the garment is simplified as the buttonholes required in the hollow rib of my former patented garment are eliminated, the elastic band 9 being inserted and withdrawn through the open ends of the hollow rib 5.

In use, the elastic band 9 is inserted or withdrawn through the open ends of the hollow fabric rib 5 and passed through the channel 1 of that member. The fabric tabs or ends 8 of the elastic band are buttoned on the buttons l4. By unbuttoning these buttons the drop flap may be lowered approximately to the line 2, which result is not possible with the construction shown in my prior patent.

When it is desired to send the garment to the laundry, the ends or tabs 8 are unbuttoned and the elastic band 9 is removed from the hollow fabric rib 5 so that the garment may be sent to the laundry without the elastic band and thereby the band is prevented from being damaged by being washed with the rest of the garment, and a longer life for the garment as a whole is secured.

Each of the buttons I4 being fastened to the garment by the short cords or tapes 13 allows for a certain amount of movement up and down, thereby affording more comfort to the wearer of the garment.

What I claim is:

A garment of the type described, having reenforcing strips extending down the sides of the body of the garment, pin stays stitched to the lower ends of said reenforcing strips, cords or tapes stitched under the pin stays, buttons carried by said cords or tapes, 2. drop seat flap, having its lateral edge portions detached from the body of the garment said drop seat flap having its side edges free from the body of the garment, and having a line of stitching along each vertical edge extending to the point of juncture with the garment in a plane substantially below that of the pin stays, said drop seat flap having a hollow fabric rib, a detachable elastic band removably mounted in said hollow fabric rib, and members having fastening means such as buttonholes on the ends of said elastic band for the purpose of holding the drop seat flap in normal buttoned position.
