1 Claim. (01. 45-31) This invention relates to a supplemental, or secondary, table top adapted to bear separately on a primary top, such as the square top of a bridge table, the supplemental top being formed to enlarge the supporting capacity of the table, and enable it to be used for various purposes requiring 'a larger top area than is provided by an ordinary bridge table top.

The object of the invention is to provide a secondary top adapted to bear separably in an operative position on a primary top so that it may be raised from the primary top without resistance, the secondary top being provided with stop members adapted to prevent its horizontal displacement from its operative position in any direction without interfering with its separation from the primary top.

Figure 1 shows in perspective an ordinary foldable bridge table, and one of the sections of the secondary top in its operative position on the top of the bridge table.

Figure 2 is a bottom view of the entire sec- Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 4 showing the sections folded together.

Figure 6 is a view similar to Figure 4 showing a dowel and socket connection between the sections.

The same reference characters indicate the same parts in all of the figures.

12-12 designate the two semi-circular sections of the secondary top. These sections are preferably made of plywood to prevent liability of warping, and provide a light weight top.

The straight edges of the sections are shown by Figures 2, 4 and 5 connected edge to edge by hinges 13 adapted to maintain the sections edge to edge in the same plane, and permit the sections to be folded together, as shown by Figure 5. If desired, the sections may be connected edge to edge by dowels 14 fixed to one section, and adapted to removably enter sockets 15 in the other section. .One dowel and its socket are shown by Figure 6, and each of the dowels is shown by Figure 1.

the area of the secondary top being considerably greater than that of the primary top.

The sections 12 of the secondary top are provided on their under sides with stop members having inner faces substantially perpendicular to the supplemental top and formed and arranged to loosely abut only the four sides of the margin of the square primary top, and prevent horizontal displacement of the secondary top from its operative position on a table, without afiecting or opposing its separation from the primary top by an upward movement. Said stop members are preferably embodied in four straight cleats 1'7, two attached to one section, and two to the other section of the secondary top the inner faces of said cleats being substantially perpendicular to the supplemental top and, said cleats being arranged to collectively form a square wall havin a continuous irmer face loosely abutting only the margin of the primary top 16. a

Bridge tables on the market have square tops, which in some makes are slightly larger than in others. "The stop members 1'7 are arranged to have an easy fit on the largest bridge table top, and a looser fit on the slightly smaller tables, 30 so that the secondary top will function properly with any bridge table now on the market. The cleats perform the additional function of stiffening the light weight supplemental table top and prevent it from warping.

We claim: A sectional secondary table top composed of a plurality of sections of relatively thin material, provided with connecting means for maintaining the top in an operative opened condition, and 99 permitting it to be folded for storage, said secondary top when opened, being adapted to rest loosely on a square primary table top of smaller area, cleats fixed to the undersides of said sections, said cleats having inner faces substantially perpendicular to the secondary top, said cleats collectively forming, when the secondary top is opened, a square inwardly facing stop wall arranged tov loosely abut only the four marginal edges of the square primary table top when the 100 secondary top is placed thereon, and thereby oppose horizontal movement of the secondary top in any direction relative to the primary top without opposing the lifting of the secondary top from the primary top, said cleats stiffening the secondary top and preventing it from warping.
