Mypresent invention relatesto an im proved'foot' holder or foot rest, which, While pri l designed especially as a golf accessory, for
use bya golfq'layer or beginner, in learning flight of the ball as, itis addressed; orper-` pendicular to theline extending between the' ball and thc hole'.` Titlrthe advanced foot i of the player in thisposition the leg is properly braced at the instant the driver or. the
iron connects with the ball, and this bracing ofthe foot and legr insures balance for the player, power, accuracy. and direction infcon- 4 necting With the ball, and an-easy andcorrect i follo-Wthrough after the ball has" been struck.
la? required. The foot'rcst may be employed in 50: cording to` one mode I have thus far devised r lBy the utilizationof' the foot holder or foot restof my invention, as a guide for the foot of the player, the foot isiprevented from slipping. or twisting, the proper stance isv maintained, and the correct formV mayread 'ily be learned, after practice, and thereafter maintained as a vmatter of habit. The foot rest of my invention may be reversed or inv-j verted for use byeither right-hand or lefthand players, and itis portable inorderthat it may be carried in the golf bag, or other- Wise, and be readily accessible for use when practice,or during a game, and itV may readilyA and quickly be set up' on the ground for use, and with equal facility may bepiclied up 'and restored to the golf bag forrfuture use. y
The invention consists in certain novel conibinations and arrangements of parts in-l volved in the construction of the foot rest as Will hereinafter be more flillly set forth andclaimed. In the accompanying drawing l have illustrated one complete example of the in the parts are, combined and arranged ac- ',Wth S Pegs folded to inactive positi'on;`

for the practical application of the principles of Imy invention. .5

Figure 2 is` asectional detail @view asf at 1, line 2--2 0f Figure y :f
T Figure 3 is` a plan 'View` ofthefootg:rest@ Figure lisis a. perspective view,noliefolf f .the several `socket=bushings employed* nl the holder.
In carrying out my invention I usethedeof `therecess. Therestl is "thus ofangular shape, or at leastoneiside ofthe restaisfashk against v:which the shoe' of the @player L is placed, the edge ofthe sole of theV shoe usually contacting with the Walls of the recess. Y
At 'its ends the rest or blockl is fashioned l f with rounded heads 3 and 4, and on theouter side Wall of the block opposed notches 5, 5,
`are fashioned, by means of Which thebloek may be grasped, or-Which may be usedforthe application of power from 'a suitable i lever `when the block isbeing removed from* its station.y block pairs of'grooves as 6 and 7, ande are 'fashioned extending from the ends toward the ,central portion of the block, and these ,i grooves are adapted to receive the three pegs,
indicated as 8, 8, 8, when thelati'er are not f I jV in use. The three pegsinay `be located `to Y Y project from ythe block andfold in the physical embodiment ofniy linvention Wheregrooves alternately, fromithe opposite `flat faces of the block, depending' on the Vrightai y In `the opposite flat facesof'the f.
and these pegsare to be driven or forced, as by foot pressure on the block, into the ground to rigidly hold the block in position for use.
In the opposite ends of the block or rest and at itsY central portion, holes 9 are fashioned therethrough, and the' opposite ends of these holes are enlarged or countersunk, as at 10 to receive lliners or metallic bushings 11 arranged-in pairs in each hole. The bushings are also enlarged to forni cups 12 that -fit in the countersinks 10 of the holes', and as seen in Figure 2 the bushings are forced into i the holesfrom opposite sides of the block and position; -its hinge joint similar to ra knife blade, and
block, each peg is provided with a screwshank 15r fashioned with bifurcated yend 16, and the flattened end of thepeg is pivoted in this bifurcated end of the screw, as at 17. As indicated in Figures 2 and 3 the grooves 6, 7,
' are of suiiicient length to accommodate the full length of the pin or peg when the latter is folded on its hinge or pivot, andthe pivotal joint'between the pin or peg and its screw i shank may have suiiicient frictional contact betweenthese parts to hold the peg in angular The hinged peg is opened out on When the pegs have been opened to extended positionas in Figure 1, the foot rest is placed in position on theground, with the points of the pegs slightly penetrating the sod. After the foot rest has been thuspositioned, if the ground is soft, lthe pegs may be forced Yinto the ground by hand,or if the ground `is harder, the foot may be placed Von'the top face' v of the block and by pressure thereon, the pegs are forced into. the ground in order that the foot holdermay' be employed for theperformance of its functions. y A v v UWhen changing the device from a rightin said bushing, anda foldable hand `Ause to a left-hand use, the pegs are unscrewed, as from the position of lFigure 2, and then the screw shanksare inserted in the top bushings and threaded therein to firmly anchor the foldable vpegs or pins. To insure the proper stance, the toe of the. golfers shoe is placed in the recess 2 of the foot rest and the latter forms a guide and brace .for the foot. the back swing, slightly turn the foot in; wardly, and in theevent of such movement the rounded end 8 (or the rounded end 4) of the rest permits an uninterrupted, and easy Many golf players, on
turn of the foot without likelihood of the golfer losing hisbalance.
Having thus fully described my invention, Y what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1.v A foot-holder ofthe character described having Orooves in its face,`a plurality-of foldable pilios hinged and anchored in the holder and adapted when folded to ,lie in said grooves.
2. A foot holder as described having a"` threaded bushing therein, la shank threaded peg hinged on said shank. e
3. A foot holder having a groover in its an angular block adapted to rest upon the Vground and having a lateral'recess conforming to the shape of thel toe of a shoe, a plurality 'of foldable pegs,'sockets mounted on said block, and co-acting means on the pegs and socketsfor retaining thev pegs in the sockets.
