with the tub for controlling the flow of water from the tub.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide a simply constructed combined bathtub and sink for use preferably in apartments and the like, of limited room space.
' Another object of the invention is to provide a combined bathtub and sink with a common drain pipe unit for controlling the flow of waste water from the tub.
One further object of this invention is to provide a combined bathtub and sink of pleasing appearance and having a cover for the tub of the tub compartment for resting thereon washed crockery, etc.
Other objects and features of the invention will become apparent and brought out in detailin the hereinafter detailed description of a preferred embodiment of the invention, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of the preferred embodiment;
Fig. 2 is an elevation taken on line 22 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3--3 of Fig. 1; while Figs. 4, 5 and 6 are details.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing in which similar character references designate like parts throughout, a bathtub 10 edged wall and an opposed inclined end wall is mounted on a support, such as on legs 11 shown broken away.
Integral with one end of the bathtub compartment is a wash sink 12. Said sink has an upwardly extending partly protruding front wall 12 for hot and cold water faucets 13 and 14, respectively. A swinging pipe 15 is in connection with the faucets for permitting water to flow either into the bathtub or into the sink, as desired.
From the drawing, it will be noted that sink 12 depends partly into the bathtub compartment. However, there is sufficient space between the bottom of the tub and the sink to permit freedom of movement of the bathers feet.
Wall 10' of tub 10 is provided at its vertical central portion with a longitudinal opening or bore 16 which extends the depth of wall 10 and which is in connection with drain inlet 17 of the sink. A removable plug 18 is provided for covering inlet 1'7 when it is desired to fill the sink with water.
Tub 10 has a threaded opening 19 beneath the sink, and which is provided with a threaded collar or seat 20 for connection with an elbow T 21. The bottom of longitudinal opening 16 contains a brazed coupling flange 21 extending therefrom and a collar 22 with a threaded end portion for connection with the upper threaded portion 22 of T 21. The lower opposite end portion of the T is connected with a drain pipe 23 which contains a flange 23', by means of a collar 24. The T can be easily disconnected by removing collars 22 and 24 and threaded seat 20.
Mounted in longitudinal opening 16 and elbow T 21, are a plurality of means for controlling the flow of water from the tub into drain pipe 23. An elongated, fiat, vertically displaceable rod 25 fits into opening 16 and extends into T 21. Said rod has an opening 26 for an extending pin 27, whose ends make contact with the wall of the opening to prevent any inclination or lateral displacement of the rod. This rod so constructed permits water to flow from sink 12 into opening 16 and drain 23. The lower end of the rod is provided with an opening 23 into which fits one end of a lever 29. The other end of said lever fits into an opening 30 of a stem 31 of plug 32. Said lever 29 is pivoted to a pintle 33 which extends through the pipe elbow T 21. By this connection, forces may be transmitted so as to remove or raise plug 32 from seat 20.
The top end of rod 25 is provided with a flange 34 welded at the top of said rod, on which rests a rotatable collar on handle 35 provided with a lug 36. The top end of the rod is riveted at 3'? to keep the collar in position on the rod, while permitting its rotation. An annular plate 38 mounted onto the top of opening 16 by any suitable means, permits resting thereon of lug 36.
Elbow T 21 has an opening 39 at the center of its short end as shown, for permitting connection of rod 25 with lever 29, and also of stem 30 with lever 29. said opening 39 is covered by means of a screw nut 40.
In order to operate plug 32 and prevent water from flowing into drain pipe 23, handle 35 is raised so that its lug 36 will pass through slot 41 of plate 38 and then rotated, whereby lug 36 will rest on the top of plate 38. The force of raising rod 16 is transmitted to lever 29 which in turn forces down plug 32 against seat 20 and prevents water from flowing into drain 23.
The open portion of tub 10 is provided with a removable cover 41. Said cover may also be used for placing plates thereon when washed.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be noted that a combined bathtub and wash sink is provided which can be used in rooms or apartments of restricted space. Combined bathtub and sink as described herein is useful and practical and permits easy access by a bather to all parts or the tub compartment. Also such a combined tub and wash sink as described presents novel features as to construction, use and operation of means for controlling the flow of water from the tub compartment.
While one preferred form of the invention has been described, it is to be understood that various modifications as to form, construction use of materials, and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, as herein claimed.
I claim:
An article of manufacture, comprising an elongated bath tub having opposed vertical long walls, partly inclined end wall and an opposed vertical end wall, a partly submerged sink of substantially rectangular outline integral with the vertical end and the opposed vertical long walls, forming a restricted area intermediate the sink and the tub for accommodating the lower extremities of a bather therein, a vertical disposed drainage conduit in the vertical end wall and extending substantially the height thereof, and drainage connecting means from the sink integral with the conduit.
