Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 197,600, dated November 27, 1877; application led October 12, 1877.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THOMAS J. CARROLL, of Bridgeport, county of Fairfield, State of .Gonnecticut, have invented a new and useful Improved Stocking and Sleeve or Skirt Supporter, which is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l is an enlarged View of my skirtsupporter, and Fig 2 a central section of the SELIIIB.

A is the metallic case; B, a slide-bar; C, the corrugated hook; D, the Enger-piece, and E the coiled spring.

The object of my inventlon is to produce a supporter which shall be more simple in construction, easier Of application, more certain and secure in action, and more readily detached than those heretofore in use. This is accomplished by inclosing slide-bar B in metallic case A, having corrugated hook C at its end, the slide-bar being operated by flngerpiece D at the end and spring E on the surface thereof.

The operation is as follows: Slide-barB being drawn back, hook C so engages with the sleeve, stocking, or skirt, that when spring E returns bar A, on the release` of the lingerpiece D, the bar is forced under the hook with suicient force to conne the article rmly between them.

This supporter being an inclosed springslide, operated by its own downward eXtension and against the inner surface of that part of the case which is turned up to form the hook over the open space at the end ofthe hook, in which the article to be secured is inserted, no claim is made to supporters having pins to secure them to clothing, or clamp-fast-v
