Description
July 3, 1934. J. BERNSTEIN 1,965,213
ADJUSTABLE DROP SEAT UNDERGARMENT Filed Nov. 5 1952 iNvERlTo'R JA CK BERNsTs/N BY ATTORNEY Patented July 3, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in an adjustable drop seat undergarment.
The invention has for an object the construc- 5 tion of a garment as mentioned which is particularly adapted to be worn by children and provided with an arrangement whereby the seat thereof can be adjusted from the front.
Furthermore, as another object of this invention it is proposed'to so arrange the elements of the invention that the tape may be located on the outer side from the garment and may be connected efficiently with the extensions from the drop seat with buttons and buttonholes, link connections, etc. I
- A still further and important feature of the invention is an arrangement for simultaneously adjusting the upper'portion of the garment, that is, the portion above the waist line upon adjustments of the extensions from the drop seat on the tape previously mentioned so as to prevent undue gathering at the back of the upper portion of the garment which would tend to cause its coming out from behind the drop seat. More particularly, it is proposed to provide an arrangement which causes the gathering to take place on the front and 50 hold the back of the garment tightly against the body for maintaining its position as stated. i
The invention still further proposes the construction of an adjustable drop seat undergarment as mentioned which is'simple and durable and which may be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
For further comprehension of'the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:-
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an undergarment constructed according to this invention.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevational view of the garment shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary enlarged detailed view of a portion of Fig. 1.
The adjustable drop seat undergarment according to this invention comprises a knitted union suit 10 having a one piece front, and a back composed of a back upper 11 and a drop seat 12. The lower edge of the back upper is indicated in Fig. 2 by reference numeral 13, and is shown behind the top of the seat 12. At the sides the drop seat 12 is formed with extensions 14 extending to the front of the garment. Strap sections 20 and 21 are secured upon the front of the union suit in line with the extension 14. A means is ar-' ranged for securing the ends of the extensions 14 adjustably .along the strap sections. This means is shown to comprise a plurality of buttons 16 attached'along the length of the strap front by engaging or disengaging the extensions 14 from the buttons 16. Furthermore, when the extensions are engaged uponthe buttons, tension produced by the elastic construction 1'7 is communicated to the strap sections which preferably should be of a non-elastic material or other ma.-
terial capable of taking the strain. Thus the garment may be conveniently and tightly worn without undue wear due to the elastic producing stresses upon the material fromwhich it is made.
The pair of strap sections 20 and 21 are secured at their outer ends 22 by lines of stitches 23 upon the front of the garment so that the inner ends are free and may be adjustably connected. A means is provided for so connecting the inner ends of-the strap sections and comprises a buckle construction 24 secured upon one of the strap sections and coactable with a plurality of openings 25 on the other strap section to accomplish the adjustments. Thus the garment may be adjusted so that it is of smaller size by causing a plurality of pleats 26 to be formed vertically on the front. Consequently the lower edge of the back upper of the garment is simultaneously adjusted with adjustments of the upper edge of the drop seat by adjusting the connection between the strap sections 20 and 21. The seat may be dropped by disconnecting the extensions 14 from the buttons 16 secured upon the ends of the strap sections 20 and 21.
It is to beunderstood that the undergarment may be made in any size and of any suitable material. v
WhileI have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming 110 the front of said union suit, means for adjustably connecting the inner ends of said tapes for drawing the front of the union suit together to better engage the body, and means for securing the ends of said extensions adjustably along said tape, whereby upon adjustments between the inner ends of said pair of tapes, the upper back portion as well as the drop seat will be simultaneously adjusted.
. 2.. An adjustable dropseat undergarment, comportion and a drop seat extending over the bottom edge of said upper back portion, extensions from the sides of said drop seat to the front,
a pair of tapes secured at their outer ends upon the front of said union suit, means for adjustably connecting the inner ends of said tapes for drawing the-front of the union suit together to better engage the body, and means for securing the ends of said extensions adjustably along said tape, whereby upon adjustments between the inner ends of said pair-of tapes, the upper back portion as well as the drop seat will be simultaneously adjusted, said means for adjustably connecting the inner ends of said pair of tapes including a buckle construction.
3. An adjustable drop seat undergarment, comprising a union suitv with an upper back portion and a drop seat extending over the bottom edge of said upper back portion, extensions from the sides of said drop seat to thefront, a pair of able means upon the front of the union suit for of the front of the union suit will simultaneously adjust the drop seat. prising a knitted union suit with an upper back I tapes secured at their outer ends upon the front of saidunion suit, means for adjustably connecting the inner ends of said tapes for drawing the front of the union suit together, and means for securing the ends of said extensions along said tapes, whereby upon adjustments between the inner ends of said pair of tapes, the upper back portion as well as the drop seat will be simultaneously adjusted.
4. An adjustable drop seat undergarment, comprising a union suit with an upper back portion and a drop seat extending over the bottom edge of said upper back portion, extensionsfrom the sides of said drop seat to the front, adjustdrawing the front of the union suit together to better engage the body, and means for adjustably securing the ends of the extensions upon the latter mentioned means so that adjustment 5. An adjustable drop seat undergarment, comprising a knitted union suit with an upper back portion and a drop seat extending over the bottom edge of said upper back portion, extensions from the sides of said drop seat to the front, a pair of tapes secured at their outer ends upon the front of. said union suit, means for adjustably connecting the inner ends of said tapes for drawing the front of the union suit'105 together to better engage the body, and means for securing the ends of said extensions adjustably along said tape, whereby upon adjustments between the innerends of said pair of tapes, the upper back portion as well as the drop seat will besimultaneously adjusted, said means for securing the ends of said extensions adjustably along the tapes comprising a plurality of buttons attached upon the tapes and engageable with buttonholes formed in the extensions.
