This invention relates to certain newA and usefuliinprovements in bobbin crates.
The main object of the invention is tov provide a bobbin crate of strong', rigid and lasting con- '5 struction adapted to effectively support bobbins to permit subjection `of the materialupon the bobbins toa steaming processor the like. e A further object resides in the provision of a bobbin crate which maybe formed of aluminum strips or sheets to eliminate the danger of the 'u yarn or thread being-contaminated by rust".l
'A'furthen 'more detailed advantage, resides. in means for supporting a crate in spaced' relation Y with respect to its support, such means also acting to permit stacking ofthe crates one'uponanother and maintainingfthe crates infspaced rela-4 tion with respect to each other and atthe same time, locking or holding the stacked crates in exact registration.
clined guide members for receiving yboloibi'n spindles .to permit tilting of vthe crate forjtle yready insertion or removal of bohloins, without*dangerV of the bobbins rolling or sliding out of the'guides.
Other objects and Vadvantages relate to the details of the structure, the form and relation lofi-1 the parts thereof, al1l as will more fully kvappear from the following description taken in connecjtion with the accompanying drawing infwhichf-L y so Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bobbincrate on line l2--2, Figure 1.
erably formed entirely from aluminum strips vor e sheets secured together where, necessary-by meansA of aluminum rivetsso that lthere VisfT no vpossibility of any portion ofthe devicebecoming rusty. n
As shown, the crate comprises two similaren'd pieces 1, and two similar side pieces 2. The end `pieces and theside piecesmay'. be of any'desired klength and relative width. Each. end piece, 1 comprises a stripoi aluminum provided .fat its ,upper and lower edges with inwardly extending flanges 3 and 4 respectively. Y
These nanges 3 and 4 are arranged .to extend inwardly of the frame. Each side piece 2 may Aalso be formed of a strip of aluminum provided at its upper andloweredges with inwardly eX- tendingflanges 5 and 6 respectively. that thel side pieces will iit tightly Within-the anges 3 and 4 of the endpieces. Any suitable means may beprovided for connectingtheside and end pieces together atthe corners of the frame: but in the particular construction illustr'at- 1GO ed, novelmeans is provided for performing this functionwhicnin this instance, also performs an additional function of spacing the crates from the supporting surface and from each other when 1 stacked and for assuring` maintenance off the stacked, crates in aligned position., This means takes the form ,ofA angle bars 7, one beingprovid'- ed at each corner of thel frame, which angle bars may have one `iiangeriveted to the side piece and the other liange riveted/to the. end piece, `these angle :bars 7 constituting corner pieces which project, as shown. some distance below the lower edge oftheside and end Apiecesto constitute supporting legs for a crate. v y
- Further, these corner pieces 7 terminate some 75y distance short lof the upper edge of therk sidefand end pieces so that when av` second crateis stacked upon thetop iof an underlyingcrate, the vcorner pieces 7 upon `the upper crate Ywill rest upon the upper-edge of the cornerpieces'r '7:.of` the lower 80 crate `and will grip theside and end. pieces of the lower crateraty the'corner so as to` assure align,-
.ment of stacked crates.v l K Further, the length of thev legs issuch that when vthe cornerV piecesof the upper crate rest 85 upontheupper: edge of the corner pieces'of a@ lower `clzrafte, the-"stacked crates will be spaced @some distance apart to permit; uniform subjection of the yarn or thread carried bythe bobbins l eo , In order to support a vplurality lof bobbins in therframe so Afarfdesc'riloed,.the upper'flanges e ofthe side pieces 2 are provided with cut-out por.-
tionsforming recesses 8 lwhich may extend substantially theentire width` of ,theanga In this particular illustration, eachy endpiece is provided with eight-.such recesses. A plurality of intermediate barsextendingparallelwith the side bars [f2-Lis provided and jin general form, these barsy are Vofuniform s haposimilardn shapeto -the side bars; that is, they may be formed of aluminum y.strips havingfupper andlloweranges v`5.and` 6 withrecesses 8 provided in the upper anges.

support these short journals, each of the bars 2` and each of the composite bars 9 are provided with a plurality of U-shaped metallic guide members 14 equal in number to the number of recesses 8 in the upper iiange of the-side'member 2. These U-shaped guide members open upwardly, and the distance between the legs of the U-shaped member is preferably substantially the same as the width of the recesses 8, and these guidemembers or clips are arranged between the iianges of "the members 2 and open upwardly so that the -openingsin the U-shaped members register with respective-recesses in the flange 5 of the members These U-shaped members may be of 'a width substantiallyequal to the width of the iianges 5 and-6 vso as to be positioned within the channel of -the members 2, and as shown, are arranged in an inclined position so that when the journals -oi bobbins pass through recesses 8 and into the yrable tilting of the frame `without danger of the j lbobbin sliding out of lthe guide members.
In order to secure these U-shaped guide members to the side-members 2 and the similar members constituting the composite intermediate -strips1-9, each U-shaped guide Ymember is formed with -a laterally extending U-shaped ange 116 at the edge adjacent the member 2 so' that this 4flange will rest in contact vwith the member 2 or the'similar members constituting the composite strips 9, and rivets are then passed through the `strip v2 and through the ilange 6 to secure ythe lguide members-to the side members.
It will be understood thatn with 'respect to the intermediate compositestrips, each of these strips carries a plurality of guide members and as the recesses 8 in the members constituting the composite stripsl are i-n alignment, the U-shaped guide members 'upon' opposite sidesv of the composite strip will also be in alignment, and v'in the construction of the compositel strip with their guide members, the rivets may be passed through the ange 16 rofn-one guide member through both of the members or strips vconstituting a composite intermediate strip and through theV other U- shaped guide member aligned -with the" firstnamed guide member so that these rivets not only secure the yU-shaped guide members to respective strips constituting a composite strip but also act tofsecure the strips of a composite strip together and to the opposed aligned guide members.
The intermediate strips 9, in like manner as the side walls 2, are of a width to t withinV the anges 3 and 4 of the end pieces 1. f l
It -will be Yapparent that inthe manner described, a bobbin crate is produced from strips of aluminum, many of which are of simi1ar form and shape and can, therefore, be` more economically Vproduced.y Further, a rigid and practical- 1y unbreakableframe is produced for eiectively supporting bobbins for processing and which are capable of being stacked in overlying relation and are maintained in exact registration or alignment and in spaced position to permit uniform subjection of the materials to the processing. Preferably, a cross bolt 18 is providedY extending laterallyv of the frame between' the sidefpieces 2 and securing them together iniany suitable manner as bythe use of a nut 19.
In order to cause this bolt to act as an exact -spacing means for the composite strips 9 and the side pieces 2, sleeves 21 are mounted upon the bolt between each side piece, and its adjacent intermediate, strip and between adjacent intermediate strips, and ywhich sleeves act to hold the intermediate strips and the side strips in predeterminedy spaced relation.
Although I have shown and described a particular detailed construction of bobbin crate, I do not desire to restrict myself to the exact form and relation of the parts or to the speciiic material described, as Various and many changes may be made in each of the same,` without departing from'the scope of this'invention, vas set forth in n the appended claims.
