IMPROVEMENT IN DOOR-CHECKS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 182,883, dated October 3, 1876 application filed April 19, 1876.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, SIMON 0. BALL, of Ypsilanti, in the county of Washtenaw and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification. 1

The nature of my invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts in a portable door-holder, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and definitely claimed.

In the annexed drawing, Figure l is a vertical section of my door-holder. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same.

A represents a plate or bar of any suitable dimensions, provided at one end with downward-projecting claws a a, and on top with a notched or ratchet bar, d. At the other end of the plate A is hinged a link, B, having a lip or tongue, b, extending outward from it at right angles. To the outer end of the link B is hinged a dog or pawl, O. The device thus constructed is to be placed on the floor inside of the door, with the tongue b projecting under the door, and the plate extending out at right angles from the door, when the claws a a are pressed down firmly into the floor.

The link B is held up against the inside of the door, and the end of the pawl G placed in the notched or ratchet bar 01, when the door cannot be opened.

This device is mainly intended for commercial and other travelers to carry with them, and have a cheap and at the same time durable and efficient means for securely holding any door.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The within-described portable door-holder, consisting of the plate or bar A, with claws a and ratchet-bar d, the hinged link B, with lip b, and the hinged dog or pawl O, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
