The principal objects bf `theinvention` are to provide a means for regulating the temperature of dwellings which will increase the-4 disagreeable conditions caused through the escape of coal gas and dust from the furnace.
The principal feature of the invention consists in the application of a blower device in the Hue leading from the furnace whereby air is drawn into and through the furnace accelerating the draught and drawing dust and products of combustion from the furnace and delivering them into an external Hue, the motoi`- for operating the blower being'directly supported thereby and thermally insulated therefrom and thermally operated means being provided to control said motor.
In the accompanaying drawings,-Figure 1 is an elevational view illustrating theappli- 'cation of this invention to a hot air furnace.
Figure 2 is an enlarged perspective d etail showing the manner of attaching the blower to the Hue.
Figure 3v is a small elevational view showing the arrangement of the motor for driving the blower.
The problem of house heating has received the attention of Iheating engineers to the end that it has been well established that by effecting'afn increase in the draughtor vo u xne of air passing through the furnace a greater heating efficiency can be obtained and nu- -merous devices have been applied to furnaces for forcing air .into and through the furnace.
The present invention consists in applying a blower to the chimney Hue and connecting Athe furnace Hue to the suction side of the blow- Many different constructions of blowers areavailable for this purpose.'l In theillustra'ftion of'thepre'sent invention herein shown, the centrifugal blower l is pr'ovlded-with" a pelled through the outlet directly 'tween the 'disc 1930. serial No. 433,446.
tom end of the Hue opening; it vbeing Htted snuglyinto the brick work and preferably cemented in place'.
- A metal frame 5 which'is preferably of a rhomboid shape and provided with Hat plate surfaces 6`at the end is inserted through the Hue opening 3A and fits against the inner wall of the vertical Hue.
Bosses 8 are formed in this frame'at the op' posite wlde angles of the rhomboid and these are threaded to receive the threaded studs .9 which are here shown extending therethrough to engage the 4outer wall of the vertical flue' so that the frame maybe clamped in position inside the Hue before the blower is placed in position.
The furnace Hue 9 is connectedto the'cover plate l0 on the suction side of the blower so that the products of combustion from the furnace are drawnl into the blower and eX into the Hue opening 3.
A plate 1l is secured downwardly below the casing and is formed with a horizontal bracket extension "12. v
A small elect-ric motor Mis mounted on Y.
` mounted upon its inner end. It is preferable that the impeller shaft be free of 'the blower casing as the heatv of the casing prohibits themaintenance of -a bearing therein and the minimum of heat is conductedto the shaft. Further, the opening surrounding the shaft permits the inHow of a current of cool air around the shaft which effectively cools it.
A metal disc 13 is mounted on the shaft outf side the casing andforms a deHector for heat radiated from the casing and also forms a direct heat exchange medium for dissipating the heat imparted'tol the impeller and'inner end f the shaft so that the motor andv motor b "ea'rings will lbe free from a detrimentall tem- 1: peraturfelz this discfbeing arranged closeto'tlie 'Casin 'directs afstratumof air befthe-"casing, the air being drawn inwardly to fthe-.opening surrounding i 2.'In a device for accelerating the draught in furnaces, the combination with a furnace ated b the temperature of the surrounding y air an it can be set to operate the motor within a closely regulated limit.
-It will be seen that with the blower attached directly to the masonry of the chimney it will be supported very rigidly so that vibration will b e reduced to the minimum and such an arrangement renders its application extremelfy simple and inexpensive and the whole orms a compact umt. i
When a blower is applied to the iue side of the furnace,a1r is drawn into the furnace through the as'h-pit and the {ire-door o enings so that not only is the combustion o the fuel. accelerated, but there will be a thorough adx'nixture of air with the gases produced in Y combustion and these will be burned and the heat produced thereby will be conserved. Further, the suction flow of air througlrthe furnace prevents the escape of gases through insecure joints, either in the furnace or iiue structure andthe fine ash or dust arising from the fire in shakin vis drawn out ofthe furnace and-discharge into the flue. Furthermore back-firing in the furnace will be practically eliminated.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. In a device for accelerating the draught in furnaces, the combination with a furnace and permanent flue therefor having an opening therein for the entrance. of combustion ses, of a centrlfugal blower having its casa flue having an opening leading thereto, of
a blower having the casing formed with a lat-.
eral ange surrounding t e discharge and an extensionto enter the iiue opening,an open metal frame adapted to be inserted through the Hue opening and to span said opening, bolts extending between said frame and the fiange of said blower and rigidly clamping same to the flue wall, and a furnace iiue connected to the intake side of the blower.
4. In a device for accelerating the draft in furnaces, the combination with a furnace and permanent flue therefor having an opening therein for the entrance of combustion gases, of a centrifugal blower having its casingdirectly supported from the permanent flue structure with its discharge directly connected with said Hue opening an unobstructed iiue leadingy from the urnace and directly `connected with the intake of said blower casing, .a motor for operatingsaidl blower wholly supported from the casing thereof, and a thermostat supported upon the blower casing thermally iniiuenced by the heat of said casing for controlling the opera.-
tion of the blower. RUDOLF D. DELAMERE.
ing directly supported from the permanent tubularextensicn from its discharge formedl flue structure with its discharge directly connected with said flue opening, an unobstructed ue leadin from the furnace directly connected wit :the intake of said blower casing, and a motorI for operating said blower wholly supported from' the casing.
thereof.
and a permanent due therefor having an opening therein for the entrance of combust1on gases, of a lcentrifugal blower having a to enter the openingto said iiue and forma direct connectionwith 'said,ue, means extending within the thieffor clamping the Ji: 0 tubular extension of said blower'in said flue.
to rigldly support the blower, and an unobstructed furnace flue directly connected with the intake of said blower.
3. A-device for accelerating the ,draught f in furnaces, comprising the combination with i Yfiat
