WILLIAM L. ximiuivi, or CHICAGO, ILLINOIS BOX Application led. August 25, 1928. Serial No. 301,991.
The invention relates to a package or box, and particularly to a box for containing loose confections, such as hard candies, caiidied pop corn, and the like.
The main object of the invention is the production of. a box, particularly adapted for loose confections, in which the box is of substantially triangular shapey and formed from a single blank, and which may be easily and cheaply made, compact, and
neat and attractive in appearance.
` Another object vof the invention is the production of, a box, particularly adapted for loose particles of food, such as candiedl5 pop corn, nuts, raisins, a mixture of nuts and raisins, and the like, which is triangular in shape and 'formed from a single blank, and which is `provided with a means for getting into the inside of the box at one eiid'tliereof, and with a second meansy for reaching the inside ofthe box at onef'side thereof. A
Vith the foregoing and other objects in view, which willV appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, arrangement,
and combination ofparts, hereinafter vmore fully described, illustrated in the accom-v panying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended'claims, it being understood that various changes in the form, pro portion, size, and minor` details of the construction mayv Stated generally, the invention comprises a single blankformed from any suitable inaterial and from which a triangular box may be formedwithout the use of glue or any other fastening means. The Vimproved box, is intended for general use, but is especially adapted for holding loose ,particles Lof food. Vhen in a fully assembled condition, the box has no free or loose edges, and is capable of openingl for reaching the contents. thereof or for filling the sameV on two different sides.
For the purpose of facilitating an understanding of' my'invention, 'I have illustrated in the accompanying drawings a pre-Y '50 ferred embodiment thereof, from an inspecbe made 'without departingfrom the spirit or sacrificing any of the ad l35 vantages of the invention.
tion of which, when considered in connection with the following description, my invention, its inode of construction, assembly,
' and many of its advantages should be readily understood and appreciated.
Referring to the drawings, iii which similar 'characters of reference are employed to indicate corresponding or similar parts throughout the several figures in the drawings z- Fig. 1 is a plan view of the blank showing one form of the box; vFig. 2, is a view in perspective showing the box formed by the folding of the blank of Fig. 1 andv Fig.` 3, is a sectional view taken on line S-Bof'Fig 2. p v
Referring to the drawings more specifically, the numeral 10, designates a single blank from which, the triangular box shown in Fig.' 2, is formed. This blankl, may be formed from any suitable material such for example as relativel-yzstiff ypaper stock, and comprises a triangular bottom member 11., two rectangular side members 12, andv 13, a 75 triangular top member 14.-, a rectangular end member 15, tucks k16, 17, and 18', provided on the endsv of the rectangular side members 12, and 13, and tucks 19, and 20, provided on the sides of said side member 13 and 15. The triangular membersy 11, and 111, are provided with overlapping flaps 21, and 22, respectively, said flaps being 'provided at the central portions thereof with suitable locking tongues 23, and 24,' for a purpose to be hereinafter. described.
' The endand'side members 12, and 15, are formed on *the 'sides of the bottom' member 11, .and kthe top or cover member 14, is formed .at the outer longitudinal edge of 9G the end member 12. The end member 13, is formed at the base of the top member 14. rlhe tucks'lb, and 17, are formed with the ends of the side members 12, and 13, at the side of the top member 14, and the tuck 18, is formed with the other end of the side member 13. The tuck 19, is formed at lthe outer longitudinal edgeo-fftl'ie side member 13, andthe tuck 20', is formed at the' outer longitudinalvedge of the side member 15.
The flap 21, is provided at one side of the base member 11, and the flap 22, is provided at an opposite side of the top or cover member 14. Each of said iiaps 21, and 22, is provided with a locking tongue 23, and 24, respectively, said tongue being formed with the free longitudinal edges of said flaps. A lock slot 25, for the tongue 24, is formed between the bottom member 11, and the end member 15, and a second lock slot 26, for the tongue 23, member 14, and the end member 13.
The blank 10, is scored or cut creased to form folding lines A, between the bottom member 11, and the adjacent side members 12, and 15; folding lines B, between the end members 12, and 13, and the top member 14; folding lines C, between the iiaps 21, and 22, and their adjacent members 11, and 14; folding lines D, between the end members 13, and 15, and their respective tucks 19, and 20; folding line E, between the side members 12, and 13, and their respective end tucks 16, 17 and 18; and folding lines F, between the flaps 21, and 22, and their respective tongues 23, and 24.
To form the box shown in the drawings, from the blank 10, the sides 12, and 15, are folded on the lines A. r1`he tucks 20, and 16, are then folded on the lines D, and E, respectively. The top member 14, is next folded on the line B, and unto the tuck 20, intoa position in which it is parallel with the bottom member 11. The tucks 17, 18, and 19, are next folded on their respective folding lines D, and E, to a point where they will be substantially at right angles to the end member 18, which member is next folded along the line B, until stopped by the tuck 20, and its tucks 17, 18, and 19, are then inserted into the box between the top and bottom members 11, and V14. Y The flaps 21, and 22, are then folded along the lines C, until they lie flat against their respective sides 13 and 15, and finally the tongues 28, and 24, Vare folded onthe lines F, and their free end portions inserted through the slots 26, and 25 respectively.
The box is now in its fully folded and assembled condition, as shown in Fig. 2, of the drawings, said assembly being accomplished Without the use of glue or any other fastening means whatsoever. It will be noted that the said box when formed has no free edges, and that access to the inside of said box may be obtained through either one of two sides thereof.
It is believed that my invention, its mode of construction, and many of its advantages should be readily understood from the foregoing without further description; and should also be manifest that while a preferred embodiment of the invention has been shown and described for illustrative purposes, the structural details are neveris formed between theY top theless capable of wide variation within the purview of my invention, as defined in the appended claims.
