This invention relates to sliding door locks, :and its principal object is to provide, arotatable lock bolt which is automatically acted upon by an associated slotted keeper,rduring g the final closing movement ofthe door, to Iturn the lock boltV into position for entrance through the slot of the keeper. e e v Another object is to providenovel means for ensuring the automatic operation ofthe bolt, despite the fact that thev door is not hung properly. Thecollar 26 is formed withfa toe 27 which is held in engagement with the side plate 10 bythe coiled spring 25, thus positioning the bolt head to normally stand at right angles to the plane of ythe door, and, consequently, at right angles to the major axis of the slot'24. When the' door is being closed, the tapering' and sloping cam-'like parallelism with the slot, whereupon the entire bolt head passes through the slot and immediately thereafter the spring 25 returns the boltto its normal position With the maj or axisfof the bolt headextending across the slot and engaging the edge portions of the'keeper adjacent the slot, thereby securely locking the door `tothe enclosure. To unlock the door, thezknob must'be turned, or the bell crank Alever 29 moved backby a proper' key to bring the bolt head into parallelism withrthe slot. `FromV the above it'Will' be seen Vthatfdespite the fact' that the 'door may notbe hung with great precision, the head ofthev holty will 'find vits way through 'the slot in 'the'keeper aslong as the pointed endof the'head enters'the'slot.

A sliding door lock comprising in combination a lock bolt rotatably mounted and held against endwise movement therein, said'y a keeper having-an elongated slot extending` at right angles to the normal plane of the bolt head and formed with parallel side edges which eo-operate with the tapered curved side Y edges of the bolt head to rotate the latter into parallelism with the slot during the final Y closing movement of the door, a stop member on the lock bolt co-acting with the casing to position the bolt head in locking position at right angles to the slot, a spring engaging e the lock bolt and co-operating with said stop to yieldingly hold the bolt head in locking position, and manually operable unlocking means for the bolt.
