The object of my invention is to furnish, for family, restaurant, and other use, an improved nutmeg-grater, .by which the nutzneg or other article may be quickly and conveniently grated, and used up entirely, without the least waste; and the invention consists in the combination of a supporting main frame, having a socket or receptacle, with a spring-acted follower and a grating-disk, as hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.

In the drawing, A represents the main or supporting frame of my improved nutmeggrater, and B the handle, into which franco A is secured. Frame A is preferably made of cast-iron, and provided with a longitudinal recess, a, in which the grating-disk 0 revolves. The grating-disk 0 is keyed by arms 0 to a crank-shaft, D, turning in bearing of frame A, and provided with a handle, D, at the outer end. Frame A is provided at the side opposite to the disk-handle with a socket or receptacle, E, that is open at both ends,

for inserting the nutmeg or other article that is desired to be exposed to the grating action of the disk. A cap, F, with spring-acted follower F, that is guided by a sliding center rod, b, in a central perforation of the cap, is secured by bayonet or other fastening to the receptacle E.

The nutmeg-is pressed by the follower F 'with even pressure against the disk, and

grated by turning the handle of the same.

By taking the handle of frame A into one hand and revolving the disk with the other hand, the nutrneg is grated in a neat and convenient manner.

When the nutmeg is entirely used up, the cap F is detached and a new one inserted.

The grater may be placed on the table, to be used by every one, as required, forming a handy and economical instrument l'or grating nutmegs and other articles With great facility and rapidity.

Having thus described my in ven tion, I claim as new and desire to securc by Letters Patent A nutmeggrater composed of a supporting main frame, A, with socket or receptacle E, a revolving grating-disk, 0, and a springacted follower, F, for pressing the nutmeg on the disk, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
