Description
March 1932- B. M. ESSLINGER' MULTIPLE COMPARTMENT PAIL Filed Jan. 29, 1950 FIG. 2
I [m/emor DEKTHA M. ['55LINGER. m 7/.
Aria/v72 FIG. '3
hatented Mar. 8, i932 stares BER-El 1W1. ESSLINGER, 9 F ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI MULTIPLE COMPART a; w; 1* P an.
Application filed January 23, 1930. Serial No. 424,154,
, among its objects the production of such pails 5 which shall be neat and attractive in appearance, simple and sturdy in construction, compact, reliable, and eficient and satisfactory for use wherever found applicable.
The ordinary pail, as is well known, comprises but a single compartment, so that when one desires to do any cleaning in the household, store, oflice, or elsewhere, it is necessar to use at least two such pails, one of which contains the clear water and the other of which contains the dirtier water or other cleansing solution. To carry two or more of such pails about is quite bothersome, and in some instances, as for example when one is cleaning from a ladder, there is" no room for 2 more than a single pailupon the ladder, and hence one must constantly go up and down the ladder to the clean-water pail at the foot of the ladder, when doing such cleansing.
To overcome these objectionable features of the single compartment pail, I have so constructed a pail that it willhave a plurality of liquid-containing compartments.
With my improved-construction, the different waters or solutions may be carried about in the single unit, thereby enabling the user to have the complete cleansing'outfit with him at all times and in all places desired to be cleansed.-
Another object of my invention is to provide a container of the kind described, and wherein the inserts forming the multiple compartments shall have individual handles for the easy removal or withdrawal from the outer pail. v
A further object of my invention is to form an article of the kind described, which shall form the multiple-compartment pail from the ordinary pail now in common use.
Many other objects and advantages of theconstruction herein shown and described will be obvious to those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains, from the disclw sures herein given. a
To this end, my invention consists in the .50 novel construction, arrangement and com bination of parts herein shown and described, and uses mentioned, and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, wherein like reference characters indicate like or corresponding parts throughout,
Figure l is a perspective view of one form of my improved construction;
Figure 2 is a cross-sectional view of the same, taken substantially along the line 22 of Fig. 1; and
Figure 3 is a perspective View of a modified form of the invention.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, wherein I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention, A represents any suitable type of pail or container, and in the present instance is shown to be the ordinary, commonly-used household bucket or pail, the same being generally provided with 7n a handle or bail 1, somewhat as shown.
In the embodiment of the invention shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the all is divided into the plurality of indepen entseparate compartments 3-3 by means of a partition wall memher 4, extending radially within the pail from the bottom oft-he same to adjacent the top thereof. The partition may becsecured to the inner surface or wall of the pail in any suitable manner, as by riveting, welding, etc.,
and in order to secure a better contacting surface along the bottom and side walls of the partion, whereat the latter is joined to the pail, the partition may have flanged edges,
somewhat as indicated in the drawings,
wherein 5 indicates the bottom flange and 66 the side edge flanges. The side flanges 6-6 may be'directed in mutually opposite directions of desired, as shown.
The cleaning solution may of the compartments thus formedwithin the pail, and the other compartment may be used for containing the rinsing solution, thesecompartments being wholly independent of one another, with no possibility of the solu- 95 tion from one compartment running into the the other compartment.
In the modified form of the invention illustrated in Fig. 3, there'is no permanent alter be kept in one said pail is used merely as a holder or container for the container inserts.
One or more insert members Bare remov-' ably positioned within the outer pail A, each 5 of these insert containers having a radially extending partition wall 7 and bottom and side walls to form a segmental-shaped container. The insert containers are merely drop ed into the outer pail A as shown, to 10 there y form the plurality of independent,
se arated compartments.
11 order to facilitate the removal of the inserts from the pail, handles 8 are formed at the top thereof, preferably at the partition 15 wall, the handles of the adjacent inserts being arranged to lie in juxtaposition to form in effect a single handle, so that both of the individual handles may be grasped together for the simultaneous removal of both inserts go from the pail.
Having thus described my invention, it is obvious that various immaterial modifications may be made in the same without departing from the spirit of my invention;
5 henceI do not-wish tobeunderstood as limiting myself to the exact construction, form, arrangement and combination of parts herein shown or described, except as necessitated by theprior art. I
so What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An article of the kind described and in combination, a pail, and a partition therein to divide the samednto a plurality of inde-t 5 pendent compartments extending from top to ottom of the pail, said partition having its side and bottom edges flanged and secured to said pail along said flanges.
2. In an article of the kind described and 4,0 in commbination, a pail, and means for insertion into said pail for dividing the same into a plurality of'independent compartments extending from top to bottom of the pail, said means consistingof a partition having integral flanges at the sides and extending in mutually opposite directions, said partition being secured to said pail along said flanges.
3. In an article of the kind described and in combination, a pail, anda partition for dividing the same into a plurality of separate compartments extending the full length 01 the ail, said partition having oppositely exten ing integral side flanges, and an intergral bottom flange, and secured to the pail along 66 all of said flanges.
