Description
Jan. 19, 1932. 0.*w. scHRADER DOUBLE DUST BAG FOR-VACUUMICLEANERS Filed March ll, 1929 INVENTOR.
Patented Jan. 19, '1932 OTT@ WILL SGHRADER, E' PHILADELPHIA, EENNSVANLA DOUBLE DUST BAG* FUE VACUUM GL i Application led March 11, 1929. Serial No. 345,943.
My inventionrelates to a new and useful double dust bag for vacuum cleaners and more particularly to a dust bag for domestic or commercial vacuum cleaners where clean and neat appearance and sanitary operation are required.
My invention further relates to a dust bag of this character which makes an eilicient, advantageous and sanitary substitute for the usual one piece dust bag of cloth..
There the air escapes through the entire surface of the porous cloth and constantly redistributes small particles of dust into. the room without killing the containing germs.
For the same reason this type of dust bag is always dirty and covered with dust on the outside, thus being unsanitary and of untidy appearance.
But all these objections are overcome with my new double dust bag, which consists of an inner dust bag of porous material, such as liber, paper, cloth, or the like, and of an outer bag or receptacle of air-tight material,
such as rubber sheeting, light metal or the like. At the lower part both bags are connected together and any suitable means may be employed for this purpose.
To the above ends my invention consists of a novel double dust bag construction, which has in the upper part of the outer airtight bag an opening through which the air escapes. Furthermore this opening is closed by two sieves and between these sieves a disinfecting pad is placed. In this way the escaping air, after having passed through the inner dust bag, is filtered and disinfected. The sieves are so dimensioned as not to decrease the nozzle vacuum at all when Working without disinfecting pad. When a pad is used the nozzle vacuum is only slightly reduced. The emptying of this novel bag is done in the usual way by shaking;1the inner dust bag not being touched at al. p Through this construction this novel bag has always av clean sanitary exterior 'and a neat appearance and besides in its `disinfecting pad has a bacteria killing device.
My invention further consists in other novel features of construction and in the novel manner of application of my invention as hereafter described and claimed..
For the purpose of illustrating my novel bag, I have shown in the accompanying y drawings a form thereof, which is at present preferred by me, since it gives in prac tice satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instrumentalities Aof which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of these instrumentalities as herein shown and described.
In the `accompanyimg drawings,
Figure l represents a view of a double dust bag embodying my invention.
Figure 2 represents a section on line 2-2 Figure 1.
Figure 3 represents a section on line 3-3 Figure 1.
Figure 4 representsa section on line 4.-4 Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, in which like reference characters designate like parts, 1 designates the outer airt1ght bag and 2 thel inner bag of cloth. The outer air-tight bag has in the upper part the sieves 3 and 4, between which the disinfecting pad 5 is placed.
In Figures 1 and 2-6 designates a band, holding up the inner dust bag, preventing the latter from being shaken' down when the bag is emptied 7 designates the ring for connection of the ag to the cleaner, and 8 designates the line `of connection between the inner and outer dust bags. The upper end of the inner bag is spaced from the upper end of the outer bag to provide a relatively large intervening dust space and the discharge opening is located at the said dust space. l
The advantages ofthe employment of my new doubledust bag over the usual one piece dust bag will be clearly apparent from these drawings. 'J 4 While in the drawings I have shown but one practical application of my novel double dust bag, it is to be understood that the same is applicable to a large variety of similar uses, since my novel double dust bag can be made and used for any type of vacuum cleaner.
lt will noW be apparent that l have devised a novel and useful construction which embodies the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description, and while l have in the present instance shown and described the preferred. embodiment thereof which has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible ofv modification in various particulars Without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim asnew and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a device of the character described, a dust bag of air-tight material open at the lower end for attachment to a vacuum cleaner and provided at the upper portion at one side with a lateral discharge opening, the upper end of the air-tight dust bag being closed and lying beyond the lateral opening, an inner fabric bag open at the lower end and united thereat with the walls of the outer dust tight bag and having a closed upper end located adjacent the discharge opening ont the. air-tight bag and spaced from the upper end of said dust bag to provide a relatively large dust space and means for connecting the upper ends of the bags with each other to maintain the same in spaced relation and to prevent the inner fabric bag from entirely collapsing.
2. In a device of the character described, a dust bag of air-tight material open at the lower end for attachment to a vacuum cleaner, and provided at the uppor portion with a discharge opening, an inner fabric bag open at the lower end and united thereat with the walls of the outer dust tight bag and having a closed upper end located adjacent the discharge opening of the air-tight bag, a pair of substantially flat sieves covering` the discharge opening of the air-tight bag, and a relatively thin disinfecting pad also substantially covering the discharge opening and maintained in position by the said sieves.
3. In a deviceof the character described, a dust bag of air-tight material open at the lower end for attachment to a vacuum cleaner and provided at the upper portion with a discharge opening,'an inner fabric bag open at the lower end and united thereat with the walls of the outer dust tight bag and having a closed upper end located adjacent the discharge opening of the air-tight bag,and a band mounted Within the upper portion of the air-tight bag and connected to the closed upper end of the inner fabric bag and adapted to prevent the same from entlrely collapsing.
Lsaaeea 4. n a device of the character described, a dust collecting unit open at lts lower end for attachment 'to a vacuum cleaner, and
comprising an outer bag of air-tight mate-
