This invention relates to a garment or coat.

The object of the invention is the production of a coat or garment, in which the collar portions of the outer members of the front are made integral therewith, to properly position the collar portions and thereby secure what is termed a high or low neck collar. The second object of the invention is to provide means for a garment, that will obviate the necessity of stitching a separate collar portion to the upper edge of each of the outer members of the front of said garment. The third object of the invention is the introduction of a fold in each outer member of the front of a garment or coat, to properly position the collar porgions that are integral with said outer memers.

In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 represents a perspective view of a coat, with the collar portions of the outer members of its front integral therewith; Fig. 2 shows an enlarged elevation of one outer member of the front of the coat; Fig. 3 indicates a top plan view of Fig. 2; Fig. 4: represents an enlarged section of Fig. 2 on the line 4, 4 and Fig. 5 shows a section similar to Fig. 4: with a modification.

A fragmentary portion of a coat is indicated having the fronts comprising the outer members 20 of the coat body, the sleeves 23 the inner member 24 of the back of the coat. The collar portions 25 of the outer members 20 of the coat body are made integral therewith.

Heretofore. the upper edge of each outer member 20 of the front of the coat body terminated in the curved line 31, 32 and 33 and the collar portion 25 was stitched to the member 20 on the curved line 31, 32. To make the new construction possible and to locate the collar portion 25 in proper position, a fixed fold 35 is made in the member 20. The said fold is maintained in position by the stitching 36. The fold is pressed and not visible from the outside. The said fold is tangent to the curved line 31, 32 and its longitudinal axis is parallel to the fold line 40, 4:1 between the lapel and coat body.

By varying the size or depth of the fold 35 what is known as a high or low collar can be made, which results by taking up some of the material of the members 20.

In place of making the fold as described, the same effect can be produced by cutting a slit in each of the members 20, forming a fold at each side of the slit and connecting the folds 45 by the stitching 46. When the collar of the coat is in its normal folded position as indicated in Fig. 1, the folds 35 cannot be seen.

Various modifications may be made in the invention and the present exemplification is to be taken as illustrative and not limitative thereof.

Having described my invention what I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim 1s:

In a coat the combination of outer members for the front thereof, a collar portion integral with each outer member and a fixed fold tangent to a line dividing each outer member and its collar portion, said fold having its longitudinal axis parallel to the fold line between the lapel and coat body, and properly positioning each collar portion ilgelatively to its accompanying outer mem- In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
