Description
Patented Sept. 3, 1929.
PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH HENRI GAGNON, OF MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA.
TOY.
Application filed July 25, 1927. Serial No. 208,110.
The present invention relates to improvements in a toy, which consists of a pea holder mounted on a spiral spring, the ob ject being to throw a pea or the like at a dis- 6 tance.
Another object is to provide a toy of this character, which will be simple and essentially cheap of manufacture.
The invention is illustrated in the accom- 10 panying drawings, in which 1- Figure 1 is a plan View of the toy, and, Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view. Referring to the drawings, 1 is a spiral spring having secured at one end the member or handle 2 of the shape of a pear and at its other end a. member 3 of similar shape, provided with a recess or cavity 4, in which may be inserted a pea, a marble or the like. The member 3 should be firmly held in one hand 2 after having inserted the pea or marble, and the handle 2 held in the other hand and the spring extended. Then the member or handle 2 is suddenly released, with the result that the spring 1 will instantly contract, and project at a distance the pea carried in the recess 4.
A card or a disk may also be similarly projected, by inserting same in the slot 5 provided in the member 3.
Within the spiral spring 1 may be provided two pieces or members 6 and 7, of metal or otherwise, the object being to explode a powder cap in between said members, when the spring 1 is extended.
Vhat I claim as my invention is In a device of the character described in which the potential energy of a tensioned springis utilized to project a missile, a normally tightly contracted spiral spring, a member secured at one end thereof and adapted to be grasped for extending the spring, and a second member spaced from said first mentioned member and secured to the other end of the spring in abutting relation thereto, said second member being provided with a recess for receiving a missile and adapted to be immovably held during the flexing and contracting movements of said spring.
Signed at Montreal, Quebec, Canada, this 21st day of May, 1927.
JOSEPH HENRI GAGN ON.
