DISPENSING CAP.

My present invention relates to an improved dispensing cap or closure, which while adapted for various uses on receptacles of different kinds, is particularly designed for use with collapsible tubes or containers for dental and shaving creams, ointments, and other commodities usually sold in collapsible or other kinds of receptacles, and inpaste form. v
In carrying out my invention I remove and dispense with the customary cap or closure secured on the neck of the collapsible tube as the latter is purchased in the open market, and substitute in lieu thereof the dispensing cap of my invention, and of course the ca of my invention may be used as the origmal closure for the collapsible tube if desired.
When used as a substitute for the original closure the cap of my invention is provided with attaching means complementary to those of the original closure for securing the cap to the tube, and for this purpose the cap is provided with-screw threads adapted to fit the complementary threads of the tube.
The invention involves the use of a spring pressed valve in connection with the cap and it consists in certain novel combinations and arrangements of parts as will hereinafter be disclosed and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention wherein the parts are combined and arranged in accord with the best mode I have thus far devised 35 for the practical application of the principles of my invention.
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation showing the cap attached to a collapsible tube of conventional form.
Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional detail view showing the cap on the tube with the valve closed.
Figure 3 is a top plan of the cap with the valve removed.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the valve.
Figure 5 is a perspective View showing a portion of the cap with the valve removed to disclose the locking lug for the valve.
Figure 6 is a sectional detail view through 50 the valve stem looking at the underside of the valve as at line 6-6 of Fig. 4. and showing the locking groove and stop lug for the lug of the valve casing of the cap.

arrangement of partsmay readily be understood I have shown in Figures 1 and 4 a portion of a collapsible tube 1 that is generally used as a container for dental or shavin creams or paste, and provided with the necfi 2 having exterior threads 3.
The cap 4 of my invention is preferably of cylindrical shape and of suitable material and provided with interior threads 5 and an annular shoulder 5 so that the cap may be screwed on the neck of the tube with the shoulder against the top edge of the neck as seen in Figure 2.
The upper open end of the cap is provided with an annular beveled edge or seat 6, and a spider frame 7 is fashioned integral with the cap just below this beveled seat and pro vided with a central opening 8. At 9 the cap is fashioned with an integral locking lug which projects radially and inwardly from the beveled seat of the cap, and slightly overhangs the spider frame of the cap, as best seen in Figure 5.
A valve 10 in the form of a circular 'disk and fashioned with a beveled edge 10, is adapted to fit against the seat 6 and close the cap under normal conditions, and a handle or cross rib 11 is provided on the top of the valve to turn it for locking and unlocking purposes.
The valve is provided with a depending stem 12 and at its end is formed a head 13, and as the stem is passed through the guide hole. 8 of the spider, a spring 14 is interposed between the spider and the head to normally hold the valve on its seat and to return it to its seat after pressure of cream or paste has been relieved from the underside of the valve. It will be apparent that as the tube is squeezed, the cream or paste is forced against the valve and the latter is lifted from its seat by the pressure of paste to permit the paste to flow in a circular film from the cap and around the valve. After pressure is relieved from the tube, the spring returns the valve to its seat.
Locking means are provided for the valve, which means are released before the cream or paste can be squeezed from the tube, and these locking means comprise the lug 9 on the cap which coacts with a groove 15 that ex tends partially around the seat 6 and is provided with a stop lug 16. The valve is turned to position so that the lug 9 will enter eithe end of the groove 15, then by turning the valve the lug 9 is made to enter the groove, and as the valve is turned until the lug 9 strikes the stop lug 16, the valve is locked in closed position. Having thus fully described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination with a receptacle having a threaded neck, of a hollow threaded cap having an annular valve'seat and a spider I frame, of a valve adapted to fit the seat, a
stem on the valve slidably mounted in an aperture in the spider frame, and a head on the stem, a spring interposed between said head and frame to normally hold the valve on its seat, and means for locking the valve in closed position.
2. The combination with a receptacle adapted to be collapsed as described, of a hollow cap thereon having a valve seat and a spider frame, a spring pressed valve slidably mounted in an aperture in the spider frame, said valve normally occupying the seat 25 and rotatable thereon, and means on the cap and valve for locking the valve in closed position.
3. The combination with a collapsible tube having a threaded neck, of a hollow threaded cap having a shoulder to contact with the edge of the neck and an annular beveled valve seat at the upper open end of the cap, a spider frame integral with the cap, a valve to fit said seat, said valve slidably mounted in an aperture in the spider frame, a stem on the valve and a head on the stem, a spring coiled about the stem and interposed between the frame and head, and co-acting means on the valve and cap for locking the cap and Valve.
4. The combination with a cap having a valve seat, a spider frame and alocking lug, of a spring pressed valve having a-stem in the frame and adapted to rotate, said valve slidably mounted in an aperture in the spider frame, said seat having a partially circular groove to receive the lug, and a stop lug on the seat for eo-action with said locking lug.
