1 is the rear axle of the'automobile shown in conventional form; 2 is the head piece of my improved jack-attached to the said rear axle by-suitable clip means. 3 is the "foot piece. 4 is the upper toggle arm pair made of channel bar pivoted at'5 5 to the head piece 2. 6 is the lower to gle arm pair formed" of channel bar pivote to the foot piece 3 by pivots 7 7 8 and 9 are the toggle joint connections to which the said toggle arms 4 and 6 The. opposite end is screw threaded through a hole in the toggle connection 9. Hubs are formed on the .inner sides of these joint couplings and a fabric tube 11 is disposed around the screw 10 with its ends secured to the said are pivotally connected by ivots 81, 81 and hubs by a strand of wire 111 (see Figs; 4 and 9) are whic The meeting ends of the toggle arms '4 provided wlth intermeshing teeth 41 serve to keep them balanced and equalized. The head pieces 2 and the foot pieces 3 are formed by folding sheet steel upon itself, as
, shown in Fig.5. The top or head is riveted veniently accessible. -The clips, however, .may be of any appropriate design.- Those shown are for the rear axle and are a 'specific at 21 to the clip stra 23 which extends in ears'231 each side 0 the axle. A toothed block 25 grips the axle housing. A toothed grip bar 26 is disposed on the clip 23 (Fig. 3)
and-clip bolts 232 secure the? clamp in place; 'The'ends'of the head 2 are in the arc of a circle. The parts are thus readily adjusted to any angle desired. Holes 27 are to'receivc rivets with heads to facilitate angular adjustment in attaching. These ma have shim washers 28as well. This facilltates the 'at tachment so that the jack canbe set at an angle thatwill accommodate the running gear or any other parts and make it conform having merit, which I wish to claim specifically.
I- As illustrated in Fig. 2, the shoudered end ,of the screw 10 projects to the rear. It is provided with a cross pin 102 for connection to a; crank 103 of any desired form. The

It will thusbe seen that by simply turning the crank the jack is brought into operation'. The foot 3 contacts with the ground and'oWing to its flexibility and because it is made of steel and is elastic, it adjusts itself freely tothe inequalities of the ground, and of course as the toggle approaches a straight line a ver strong pressure is exerted which readil li ts the automobile or other vehicle free 0 the road. By reversing the movement ofthe screw the jack is collapsed into very compact relation underneath the axle or frame, as the case may be, the toggle arms collapsing and contactingtogether to bring the wholestructure'into compact relation like a comparativelysmall oblong'box or straight horizontal bar, see Figs-.- 3 and 8, which is'sub- 'sta-ntially"inconspicuouswhen disposed inside the spring or parallel-therewith, for instance, see Figs.- 2, 3 and 8. While the fabric tube saturated with grease would be more or less unsightly, it is entirely encased by the channel toggle arms, as indicated Where there is a drop front axle I provide a spring attaching clamp with leveling device.
