This invention relates to combined indicating and advertising devices and has for its general object the provision of a novel device adapted to be engaged upon a bottle of medicine for the purpose of indicating when the next dose should be taken.

llt is of course well known, without explanation, that variousremedies must be taken at certain predetermined times or at certain hours apart in order to obtain the maximum benefits. lit is likewise well known that patients and attendants are often forgettul and cannot easily remember when the last dose was taken and when the next one should be taken.

It is with the above facts in view that l[ have devised the presentinvention which has for its object the provision of a device which may be supplied by the druggist or apothecary and either applied by him or intended to be applied by the purchaser to the bottle of medicine, the device having means thereon indicating when the next dose should be taken, this means being adapted to be moved by the patient or user as each dose is taken. 1

Another important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will serve as a remarkably good advertisement for the particular store from which the remedy is purchased, the device being of such construction as to permit the application thereto of various legends, such as those giving the name, address and laudatory matter regarding the vendor.

Another object of the invention is to provide an indicating device of this character which is not necessarily limited to application upon the initial bottle to which it is applied but which can be removed and placed upon other bottles and operated manually by the user or owner toindicate when any dose of any other medicine is to be taken.

' An additional object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will be extraordinarily simple and inexpensive to manufacture, easy'to apply and use, positive in action, efficient and durable in KO service, and a general improvement in the art.

Withthe above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention preferably consists in the detailed construction and the arrangementto be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is an elevation of a bottle showing the device applied thereto.

Figure 2 is a view showing the device flattened out.

' Figure 3 is an elevation of a bottle equipped with one of the devices constructed in accordance with a modification of the invention.

Figure 4 is an elevation of the device shown in Figure 3 in flattened out condition or prior to its application to the bottle.

Figure 5 is a detail sectional view through either form of the invention showing the mounting of the indicating means thereon.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, the letter A designates a bottle such as is used for medicine, this bottle having a restricted o-r constricted neck portion B provided with the usual stopper C. In carrying out the form of the invention illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, I provide a sheet 10 of sheet material such as cardboard, heavy paper, celluloid, metal, or the like, punched, out or otherwise formed to provide a dial portion 11- and an attaching portion 12 connected by a 30 reduced neck portion 13. The attaching portion 12 is formed with a central opening 14 from which radiate cuts or slits 15. Immediately around the central opening 14 is an area upon which may be inscribed directions as to the use of the device, and located ontwardly of this area is a space wherein may be printed any advertising matter regarding the business, or data relative to the store from vwhich the bottle is purchased. The neck portion 13 also provides an area within which may be printed other matter such as the address. The dial portion 11 is formed to represent a clock face and pivoted at the cen-- ter thereof, as shown at 16, are hands 17 and 18 representing, respectively, the minute and hour hands of a clock, these hands being adapted tobe moved about manually to indicate' the time at which the next dose of medicine is to be taken. me

In the form of the invention illustrated in Figures 3 and 1 there is provided an attaching member or portion 19 and a dial portion 20 connected by a neck portion 21. lln this form, the attaching portion 19 is provided with a central opening 22 which defines a ring-like structure which maybe cut, interrupted or severed at 23 so as to permit engagement over the neck of a bottle. The dial portion 20 may be of the same size and shape as in the first described form or of an angular shape, this detail being immaterial and it is likewise provided with hands 2 1 and 25 pivoted at 26 and adapted to be set manually to indicate the hour at which the neXt dose is to be taken. In both forms of the invention, the dial port- ions 11 and 20, as the case may be, have preferably inscribed thereabove the legend Next dose at.

In both forms of the invention it will be apparent that the attaching portion 12 or 19 as the case may be is intended to he slipped over the neck B of the bottle and that the dial portion 11 or 20 should be bent or folded with respect to the attaching portion, along the transverse center of the neck portion 13 or 21 so as to extend at substantially right angles thereto. llhis will biing the attaching portion into substantially horizontal position arranged at right angles to the bottle neck with the dial portion arranged substantially vertically at the side of the bottle. In the case of the first form of the invention the radial cuts above the central opening 14 will permit the attaching portion 12 to engage upon bottle necks of considerably different sizes, and in the case of the second described form the splitting, cutting or dividing of the material about the central opening 20 will permit the same action to occur so that in both cases the device will be properly held upon the bottle neck with the dial portion dependm l t is intended that the operator move the hands 17 and 18 or 24 and 25, after taking or administering a dose, so that the hands will indicate the hour andor fraction thereof at which the next dose should be taken. Quite naturally, the present invention is not limited to the precise legends or instructive matter which may be printed or otherwise inscribed upon the device and it is consequentlv apparent that no details in regard to this advertising matter are given.- 7

From the foregoing description and a study of the drawing it will be apparent that I have thus provided a very simply constructed, inexpensive and yet highly eflicient device adapted to be mounted upon bottles and acting for the purpose specified. It is believed that the construction, operation and advantages will be readily apparent to one skilled in the art withoutfurther explanation.

While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it should messes be of course understood that I reserve the right to make all such changes in the details of construction as well as the arrangement and combination of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subj oined claim.

Having thus described the invention claim A dose indicator and advertising device including a time dial with hands movable thereover, a tongue having one end formed integrally with the edge of the dial and bent angularly intermediate the ends thereof to position the dialflatly against one side of a bottle with the free end of the tongue extending towards the neck of the bottle, a circular portion having the edge thereof formed integrally with the free end of the tongue and having a centrally arranged opening to re ceive the neck of the bottle, said circular portion having a plurality of radially extending slits extending from the opening towards the periphery thereof to provide closely associated flexible tongues to engage and grip the neck of the bottle and to permit the circular portion to be applied to bottle necks of different sizes.
