Description
March 3, 1931,
'M. MARINELLI FINGER RING Patented Mar.' 3, 1931 MARCO M RINELL I, or rnovr nnnom nrronn ISLAND FINGER RING;
I Application filed May 21, 193d eeriaim'nigs5'; r p Y My invention relates to finger rings of the type whereinast'one or other ornament is carried in an enlarged head. i Heretofore this type of ring has been ex- '5 cessively expensive because of the great mass v v, I I
edges of the latte'njlhje cap edges- 25, also of material concentrated in the solid head, especially when, as is usual, the material is of precious or semiprecious material. The essential objects. of my inventionare to diminish the amount of material; to employ 'a minimum of parts; to facilitate the assemblage of parts; and to attain these ends in a strong, simple, inexpensiveand sightly structure.
' To the above ends essentially my invention consists in such parts and in such-combinations of parts as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings. which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a ring embodying my invention, 7 i Figure 2, an end elevation,
Figure 4, a section taken on line 4:4 of Figure 3, and o o I Figures 5, 6 and7,,detailed perspective views respectively of the cup annulus and setting. e
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughoutthe views;
with a laterally enlarged upper portion or bearing 11 tapering inwardly to its'junction with the lower portion or shank 12 of the ring. The top portion is provided with a central opening 13. The entire exterior sur- I face of the enlarged portion 11 is cut away or otherwise externally reduced in thickness forming a recess 16with resultant end abutments 17 adjacent the shank portion of the ring. Superposed upon the portion v11 is an upwardly tapering cap or housing member 18 comprising a substantially horizontal top wall 19' provided with a vcentral orifice 20; upwardly tapering or oppositely inclined side walls 21 having longitudinally arcuate lower edges 22; and upwardly tapering oppositely inclined end walls 23 terminating in down wardly directed transversely tapering extenc'l'i'ii'g porti'on sae having terminal horizontali'edges25f The edges 22 of the caprest v helateral margins of the'recessed'bean porn-0 1,11 of the annulus flush with'the lathe recess 16, engage the abutments '17 with theext erior, faces of the extension portions2tfiush and continuouswith the ex ternal portions of the annulus adjacent the shank. ,All' of the bottom edges of-the aieeeeu ed' co-the annulus'bysolder I V V The o'peningl3oonforms in "shape" to that of the orifice 20', but itis 'of less jdiametertha'n' the former-11A box setting'lin'cludes'a b'odyf28 inwhc'se upperportion is an internal shoulder 29 atthe base of a terminal retaining ene ge- 30; adapted to clampa gem, stone, or other ornament 31"upon its seat 29. Thesetting body 28 conforms transversely with the shape of the opening 13 and orifice 20, and, extending through the latter, rests upon the bearing 11 with its inner face flush with the bounding edge of the opening. The encl I walls of the setting body have longitudinally "curved lower edges33 to conform to the curvature of the bearing'face 11. The upper portion of the setting body is fixed by solder or otherwise, as at 36, to thehousing member 7 18. The latter combined with the setting body 28, which constitutes a partition, forms was completely solid with the exception of the central hole therethrough for the admission of light to the ornament.
a substantiallyannular empty chamberspace My ring includes an annulus 10 provided 38. V
It will be observed that by virtue of the It will be also noted thatthe wall of the settingbody 28 is utilized as a partition element in conjunction with the housing, so that 'in constructing the ring butthree elements,
ice I exterior of the bearing 11 assists in positioning the housing, or cap, and affords unbroken flow lines upon the exterior ring surface at the points Where the joints occur.
I claim 1. In a finger ring of the type set forth, an
annulus comprising a broad bearing and a reduced shank, the bearing being provided with a central orifice, an upwardly tapering hollow housing inset upon the bearing and provided with a central opening in its top, a tubular setting member engaging the bearing around the orifice and engaging the housing in the opening at a point remote from the orifice, and an ornament supported 'by the set V ting member. I a
2. In afinger ring of the type set forth, an
' annulus comprising a broad bearing provided with a central orifice, and a shank, a housing member inset upon the bearing comprising upwardly tapering walls, and a top wall integral with the first walls provided with a central opening having its center in vertical alignment with the center ofthe orifice, a setting member comprising a tubular body ex tending through the openin and engaging the bearing around the orifice, an internal seat in the body, and a terminal flange upon the body above the housing, and an ornament in the seat and engaged by the flange.
In testimony whereof I have afiixed signature.
MARCO MARINELIJI.
