CARL L. WEYAND, or wnrnanumr, comvncricur,
EAvns 'rnouqii Application filed March 9,
i This invention relates to eaves troughs, and more particularly to an improved form of eaves trough having a high degree of longitudinal rigidity.
One object of the present'invention is to provide an eaves trough of the above nature which may be constructed from a smaller amount of sheet metal than the former types of eaves troughs nowin general use. i
1o Afurther object is to provideadeviceof the above nature which will be simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to install and manipulate, ornamental in ap pearance, and very efficient and durable 1n 1 use. a a
ith these and other objects in view there has been illustrated on the accompanying drawing one form in which the invention may be conveniently embodied in practice.
. i The single figure represents a fragmentary By means of the present invention, the
above and other disadvantages have been avoided. This has been accomplished by prov viding an eaves trough in which the outer head of the trough isbent inwardly in such a manner that the plane tangent tothe surface of the trough body at the junction with said head will pass substantially through the centerof the bead. By means of this construction, a groove is formed at the junction between the trough body and the bead which 45 produces a much stifl'er construction and thereby eliminates the necessity of formlng a lip on the curled-in edge of the bead. This construction also permits the eaves trough to be manufactured by a'rapid and inexpensive 5Q process of longitudinal rolling instead of by transverse :beadin it about1,000;feetperhour.I a

the slower and moreu expensive process of transverse! bending formerly employed.
A further advantage of the present invention iisithatlan eavestrough ofequal capacity may. be constructed from a narrower strip of metal than-wasthe case with former types.
This: isaduer to l the ufact that the upper portion of the trough body. adjoiningthebead whichwlwas "vertical i in the old style eaves trough, is now bent inwardlywandiformsa hurt of thecuwedbeadv Aside fromlthercduction: in thlenexpense ofmetalstltus obtained,
thetrouglr is much stronger and neaterin appearance andtin use willvb'e heldin better alinement withiadjoining troughsby reason of" the groove formed therein; v
In practice, ithasl'been found thattlre new stylereavestrough constructed as herein dis closed canbe manufactured in a rolling machine at arate greatly in excess of the maximum output ,of the old style eaves itrough g, achine whichwas only Heater-ring nowrtoithe drawing in whichlike reference numerals/1'1 denote a corresponding 7 parts, the numeral '1O1nd1cates the bodyusectiOlhyOfrtllQ eaves trough, said section prefertlblyrbelllg SGllll-CYllIlCll'lCiLl;and terminating in a straight: edge 11: on ,ItS llnner side for attachment to the edge of avroof by any I suitable; means not shown. v i The outer :edgeot the eaves: trough is 1 n ovidedwith a substa 1: tially,cylindrical curled-(weir bead 12, which insteadio l being tangentto the body section 10,:as lllf lll'lfl old term of eaves trough now in commozriuse, is bent inwardly and socdis posed that theplane tangentrto the edge: of, the body ,sect-ionr 10; will: pass substantially through the center-ot-saidl bead 12. Aygroove 13 is 1 thus formed a at the joint between the body section 10 and theplbead 12, a i 1 The groove as herein shown is angularin shape-but it; will be tunderstoodth at 1it is witlrin the spirit ofthe present invention to employ a curved or other, shape of grooveu It will til So bevunderstood that the present invention is notto be limited-to ent eaves trough having awsingle outer-bead, as; herein dis-U; closed butj two beads may-be used within the1 be manufactured by spirit of the invention, one on either edge ing positioned adjacent an outer side ofsaid of the body section of the trough. I
The groove 13 permits the eaves trough to longitudinally through rolls, since the groove prevents the strip from slipping laterally as y it passes through the-rolls. The eavestrough r desiredto secure Letters Patent, is: 3'

In testimony whereof, lhave afiixed my While-there has been disclosed in this 'speci I:
fi'cation one form in which the invention may be embodied, it is to be understood that'this, form" isshown for-the purpose of illustration only, and that the invention is notto be-lim ited to the specific disclosure but'may be modifiedandembodied i-n various other. forms withoutdeparting fromiitsspirit. In short, the. invention includes all the modifications and'einbodimentscoming Within the scope of the following claims.
Havingthus any described the invention what is claimed as new, and for which it is' V 1. In an eavestrough, a vsmoothly curved body section having a tubular stiffening bead adjacent an outer side oflsaid groove; I v 2. Inaneaves trough, an upwardly conrolled outwardly .on itsouter upper edge, said bead beingfjdisposed inwardly to form a" saidxbody'se'ction' and said be'ad,and a'longitudinal segment of said'bead being positioned cave body section adapted to provide a chan nel for the 'water draining from the eaves, a tubular bead rolled ,outwardly-onone edge of said'body section, said bead being bent inwardly so that a line tangent to the body section at the point-ofconnection of saidv bead will pass within the interior of said cave body sectionadapted to provide a channelfor the water draining from tlieieaves', a tubular bead rolled outwardly on one edge of said body section, said bead being. bent outer sideof said groove.
'ter ofsaid bead and a longitudinal segment of 'said'bead being positioned adjacent an 4.,In an eaves trough, an upwardly concave body sectionadapted to provide a channel for the'water draining from the" eaves, I r
bent inwardly toform a stiffening groove r a tubular 'bead rolled outwardly on one edge ,ofsaid body section, the-upper outer portion' oi said body section adjoiningthe bead being 1 passing a strip of metal 1 signature to this specification;
