The object of my invention is to make a barber chair having an attachment, which will enable the barber to be seated when performing the ordinary operations of a barber,
"such as cuttin hair, etc.
A further 0 ject is to devise an auxiliary chair that is rotatively mounted and supported on the pedestal of the principal chair and one that does not come directly incontactwith the floor as a support.
A still further object is to make-Pu auxiliary chair that has its main support secured to the pedestal of the principal chair and its auxiliary support in rolling contact with the 15. base of the pedestal of the principal chair.
, A still further object is to make an aux iliary chair that is adjustable vertically and that may be rotated around and independent of the principal chair.
My device may be made of few and simple parts that lend themselves readily to multiple production, may be easily assembled and re aired and cheaply made.
Vith these and other objects in view my in vention has relation to certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, pointed'out in the claim and illustrated in the drawings in which Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a barber chair with my auxiliary chair attached thereto.
Fig. 2 is a'plan view of my, auxiliary chair together with its supports on the principal chair.
Numeral 3 designates the conventional barber chair having the pedestal 4 and the enlarged base 5. Numeral 6 designates the auxiliary chair having the seat 7 and back 8. Numeral 9 designates a cylinder into which the shank 10 of the auxiliary chair 6 fits in sliding engagement. Numeral 11 designates a rack formed on the shank 10. Numeral 12 designates a ratchet secured to the cylinder 9. By means of the ratchet 12, the shank l0 may be secured in different ositions in the 1929. Serial No. 362,590.
estal 1. Numeral 16 designates a bolt passing through the free ends of the annulus 14 and the end of the arm 13. By means of the arm 13 and the annulus 14, the auxiliary chair 6 is' held in the position shown in Fig. 1. The 63 annulus 14 is so fitted around the pedestal 4 that the arm 13 maybe rotated around the pedestal 4. Numeral 17 designates a bifurcated brace secured at one end to the lower end of the cylinder 9 and at the end of each of the'bifurcations of the bifurcated brace17 are formed the rollers 18, which are in sliding engagement on the enlarged base 5. Numeral 2O designates a strut connecting the arm 13 with the bifurcated brace 17 as shown in Fig. 1. Numeral 21 designates a step formed .on the lower end of the cylinder 9 in order to permit easy access to the seat 7.
What I claim and mean to secure by Letters Patent is:
In combination with a chair having a pedestal and an enlarged base supporting the pedestal of said chair, an annulus surrounding the pedestal of said chair above a flange formed on said pedestal, an arm secured to said annulus by means of a bolt passing through said arm. and through holes in the free ends of said annulus, a cylinder secured vertically to the free end ofsaid arm, a bifurcated brace secured at one end to the lower end of said cylinder, rollers rotatively secured to the free ends of said bifurcated brace in rolling engagement on said enlarged base, struts connecting said arm with the bifurcated ends of said bifurcated brace, an 35 auxiliary chair out of contact with the floor supporting said chair and having a seat and back, a shank supporting said auxiliary chair,
a rack formed on said shank, said shank in vertical sliding engagement in said cylinder, a ratchet secured to said cylinder, said ratchet in selective engagement with said rack.
In testimony whereof I afiix my si nature.
WILLIAM nsroiins.
