This invention relates to improvements in terminal posts for electric appliances.
It is the object of the invention to provide a novel and simplified form of inexpensive terminal post which is economical to manufacture and which is adapted for better electrical connection with existing forms of spring clip plugs than terminal posts now available.
The ordinary form of-terminal plug is provided internally with two spring clips adapted to receive the terminals of electrical appliances. Each of these clips usually comprises an axially split tube, the parts of 15 which are resiliently yieldable and are ordinarily flanged along their side margins. The
ordinary terminal post receivable in such a clip comprises a short length of rod mounted on the electric appliance and adapted to 2 project into the open end of the tubular portion of the clip. In such a device, it is found that due to necessary irregularities in manufacture there will be a maximum of four lines of contact between the clip and the 25 terminal post, assuming that the radius of curvature of the parts of the clip is less than that of the post. If, however, the radius of curvature of the clip is greater than that of the post, there may be but two lines of contact to establish an elecrical connection betwesn the parts.
The peculiar form of terminal hereinafter disclosed is not only adapted for economical manufacture in that it may be stamped from r a single piece of sheet metal, but it is found, moreover, that in the ordinary connector clip six lines of contact are established, thereby making a more perfect electrical connection than other forms of terminal posts now available. 7 I

ing this invention of a standard clip such as is found in the ordinary connector plug, such clip and the terminal being illustrated in section;

While the application of this invention is by no means limited to flat irons, I have chosen by way of illustration to'show at a flat iron body upon which is a sheet of dielectric material at 11 to support the improved terminal posts embodying this invention.
Each such terminal post comprises a flat base portion 15 seated upon the di-electric sheet 11 and apertured'to receive a cap screw 16 which holds it in place. A di-electric bushing 17 and gasket 18 insulate the cap screw from the base plate 15 of the terminal post. Each terminal post base is apertured at 19 to receive connection with the conductors 20 whichlead to the resistance element in the interior of the iron.
The terminal post proper comprises strip which is integral with base portion 15 and is somewhat narrower than such portion, the surplus material being used to form the longitudinally extending rib 26 which is semitubular and from which the sides of the strip project at 28 like marginal flanges. v
The spring clip device herein illustrated is typical of the spring clip which will be found in the ordinary connector plug and is designated by reference character 30. It comprises the relatively yieldable clip elements.
31 and 32 each of which is semi-tubular in form and provided with lateral flanges which are designated at 33 and 8 1, respectively.
It will be observed in Figure 5 that the being designated at 35 and 36 in Figure 5. It will further be noted that each of the flange portions 28 of the terminal post is engaged by both of the flanges 33 and 34:, respectively, of the clip elements 31 and 32, thereby providing additional lines (and sometimes planes) of contact at 37 88-, 39, and 4:0. It will be observed, therefore, that a terminal post embodying this invention contacts with a standard clip to provide more lines of contact that it is possible to establish with a terminal post of rod form.
While a device embodying this invention thus serves the primary purpose of providing an excellent electrical contact, it further complies with the statement of objects above in that it may be stamped integrally of sheet metal, thereby rendering it far less expensive to manufacture than ordinary forms ofterminal posts. 1
I claim:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a terminal post comprising a longitudinal ribbed sheet metal contact in the form ofa sector of a tube provided with oppositely extending marginal flanges.
2. 'As a new article of manufacture, a terminal post comprising a flat base portion, and an integrally formed sheet metal contact portion disposed at an angle with reference to said base portion and provided within reduced transverse dimensions with a central rib of arcuate cross-section and oppositely disposed marginal flanges, said rib being 3; adapted to reinforce said contact portion while providing additional means of contact for the standard plug clip.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a ter minal post having a portion adapted to com- 40 prise a plug contact and consisting of a; sheet metal member having marginal por tions substantially in the same common plane andoined by a longitudinally extend v ing rib of arcuate cross section, said rib andflangesbeing shaped to provide multiple contaclis with a plug socket engageable therewit 4.
