WIRE-FENCE CLIP Application filed December 15, 192s.

This invention relates to a clip such as may be used for securing fence wires or the like to a fence post.

An object of the invention is to provide a clip of the type referred to that may be quickly and easily attached to the post.

Another object is to provide an eflicient clip of this type which is inexpensive to manufacture.

These and other objects are attained by the means described herein and disclosed in the accompanying drawings in which: 2

Fig.1 is a side elevation of the device of this invention installed on a fence post.

The device of this invention is preferably formed of a single length of bendable metal wire or rod stock 10, bent midway between the ends thereof to form an open coil or eye 12. The space or way 11, between the ends of the coil, is of a size sufiicient to receive the rib or web 110 of a fence post 27, T-shaped in cross section. c

The portions of metal adjoining the eye. are bent outwardly as at 14 and 15 to form divergent arms 16 and 17 lying in a common plane. At points 18 and 19, intermediate the free ends 20 and 21 and points 14 and 15 respectively, the arms are bent inwardly to form parallel extensions 22 and 23 lying in the plane of the arms. of the extensions are bent to provide open disposed in' parallel planes perpendicular to the plane of the arms. Said hooks are adapted to receive a member 26 forming part of a wire fence or the like.

As shown in the drawings,'fence post 27 comprises a longitudinal web or rib portion 110 provided with longitudinal flanges 28. Said flanges cooperate to form a substan tially flat table or abutment face 29 disposed perpendicularly to web or rib 110. Web or rib 110 may be provided with spaced notches 30, or, if desired, may be unnotched as indicated by broken line 31 in Fig. 1. In either case, the rib or Web is receivable in space 11. It should be clearly apparent there fore, from the disclosures in Figs. 1 and 2,

that in the absence of wire 26 and twisting tool 13, the clip may be placed on the post with flanges 28 disposed between the hooks 24: and 25. The parallel extensions 22 and 23, and space or Way 11, permit of advancing the clip until the edge 32.0f the rib enters the eye through the mouth 34 of the way 11. When the clip is in this position, the free ends 20 and 21 of the hooks are disposed at asu'fiicient distance from the plane of table 29, to permit insertion of fence wire member 26 within theembrace of the hooks. After in sertion of member 26, to theposition indicated in Figs. 1 and 2 whereupon twisting tool 13 may be inserted'in eye or loop 12 for twisting the clip and forcing wire 26 against the abutting face or table 29. this manner the wire 26 is securely held'in position upon the fence post. l,

"1. A' clip, for securingv an object upon a post provided with flanges and a rib, said device comprising a length of material bent 'to foriinf'an ,eyefadapte'd .for receiving the rib of the post, a pair of arms extending from the eye and adapted to embrace the post, an object holding means on the end of each arm, said holding means being adapted to receive an object when the clip is moved to dispose the rib within the eye, and to dispose the object in abutment upon the flanges upon move ment of the clip in the opposite direction.

2. A clip comprising a length of material the clip may be moved strucbeing bent midway between the ends to form an open eye, the bent portion forming the eye comprising two arm portions in spread apart relation for embracing the rib of a fence post, a pair of divergent arms extending from the eye, and parallel extensions formed on the arms intermediate the eye and the hook shaped ends.

3. A clip device for securing an object upon a post provided with flanges and a rib, said device comprising a member adapted for lateral movement relative to the post, object holding means on said member, and normall open eye means efiective for receiving the ri and for disposing the object holding means 15 in receiving position upon movement of the laterally movable, member in one direction, and effective upon movement thereof in the opposite direction, for rendering the holdingmeans operative for securing the object in position upon the flanges of the post.

A one-piececlip comprising an eye portion adapted to receive a twisting tool, divergent armsextending from the eye portion and adapted toembrace a post disposed at therebetween and hooks formed on the free ends of the arms forholding an object in abutment upon the post, the eye comprising portionsnormally spaced to admit a portion of the post whereby the hooks may be pro.-

jected beyond the post to receive the object to be held.

5. A'clip comprising a pair of arms adapted, to receive therebetween a post, a hook formed on one end of each arm, said hooks 5 being adapted to receive an object to be secured tothe post, and, normally open means on the oppositeends of the arms for initially receiving therebetween a part of the post and subsequently drawing thev object'into abut- 40 menttupon the post. 7

6.,An, attaching clip comprising a pair or armsIadapted. to receive a T post between them, fixed hooks on said arms for receiving a member disposed in transverse relation to the post and an integral normally open loop connecting the arms and adapted to initially receive therein a part. of the post to dispose the hooks in receiving position and, upon twisting of the loop, to shorten the arms for binding the transverse member to the post.
