tion in use, parts being broken away to show the delivery duct.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section in perspective of the brush of Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 is a showing of the brush magazine receiving a charge, parts being broken away.
Cluster of bristles 1 may be assembled into a fixed grouping with each other by rubber anchoring means 2 housed by shell 3. Gentrally disposed in this group of bristles 1 and anchored by theanchoring means 2 is nozzle 4 having flexible duct terminus 5 as a delivery opening for lather promotion ingredients as liquid shaving soap or paste. The delivery portion of this duct 5 is remote from the anchoring means 2 and thereby effects supply directly into the flexing lather forming and lather applying portions of the bristles. As this duct 5 is flexible, even in vigorous use of the brush, there is not perceptible to the flesh of the user any detection of this duct 5 in the bristles. However, in brush manipulation the flexing of the bristles 1 likewise efl'ects flexing ot' the duct 5, distributing the shaving soap as beyond the duct terminus while working back into the nozzle soap portions not discharged.
For convenienve of manipulation this brush shell 3 is pnwided with a handle member 6 of cylindrical form and having near one end thereof an externally threaded portion 7 to engage internally threaded portion '8 of shell 3 for thereby mounting detachably the handle 6 as to the shell 3. Inwardly from this externally threaded portion 7 this handle or magazine member 6 has tapering portion 9 seated with the flare portion of the nozzle 4, and thereby providing a joint about internally threaded opening 10 from chamber 11 of this magazine member 6.
This magazine member or handle (i remote from the opening 10 is provided with cap 12 having swivel connection by means of screws 13 in the member 6 which screws 13 extend to engage groove 14 in the cap 12. This cap 12 has anchored therewith key stem 15 centered in the chamber 11 and extending toward the opening 10. This stem 15 is of keying or rectangular form and engages plunger 16 externally threaded to coact with internal threads 17 ot the member 6. Accordingly any rotation of the cap 12 effects no travel of this cap 12 longit-iulinally of the member 6. However, through the stem 15 such rotation of the cap 12 in one direction urges the plunger 16 toward the opening 10, while rotation of this cap 12 in the opposite direction brings this plunger 16 toward the cap 12 and thereby increases the capacity of the chamber 11 to a maximum.
\Vith this chamber 11 enlarged by the movement of the plunger 16 toward the cap 12, this member 6 may be detached from the shell 3 and have the internal threads at the opening 10 engaged by external threads 18 of a collapsible tube .19 or other supply device for discharging paste or other detergent into the chamber 11. \Vhen this charging of the magazine member 6 is effected, the supply 19 may be removed and the shell 3 attached. The brush is now in condition for storing or use. If stored it is in condition for immediate use as may be desired. According to the nature of the supply of detergent the bristles 1 may or may not be moistened. Slight rotation of the cap 12 may effect discharge through the flexible duct 5 of such quantity of the lather from the material as may be desired into the flexing lather applying terminal portions of said bristles. As the use of the brush is completed the bristles 1 may be cleansed independently of washing away any material quantity of the lather producing material. In fact such washing will only remove the material directly in the bristles, for the flexing nozzle or duct 5 due to brush manipulation is clean of material at its end portion, and accordingly the lather material is not washed out thereof by cleansing the brush. The parts of the structure may be built of rubber xylonite, bakelite or other sanitary material, and the structure thus produced is one commensurate with the life of the bristles if not longer, in a form which will appeal to the trade.
What is claimed and it is desired to secure by Letters Patent is 5 In an elongated handle for a fountain brush comprising a cylinder of single thickness having asmooth exterior surface and provided on its interior surface with screw threads, 9. piston having threads on its 10 periphery engaging with said screw threads of the cylinder, a swivelled cap on the end of said cylinder, a square stem carried by said cap andslidably extending through a square hole in the center of said piston, and a dis- 15 pensing nozzle on the other end of said cylinder as to which nozzle said cap is rotatable to actuate the piston along said stem.
In witness whereof we aflix our signatures.
