INDICATIN G DEVICEv FOR DISPLAYING VARIABLE INFORMATION Filed Jan. 3. 1930 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 I'll Patented Apr. 8, 1930 ADAM HINKEL, on onnnnnnon, GERMANY INDICATING DEVICE FOR DISPLAYING VARTABLE INFORMATION Application filed January 3, 1930, Serial No.
This invention relates to date indicators and other indicatingdevices for displaying variable information, and more particularly to such devices of the kind in which a num her of indicating cards, plates or the like are contained in a rotatable casing divided by a partition into two compartments each having a window or aperture, the arrangement being such that each time the casing is turned end for end one card passes from one compartment to the other so as to expose the surface of a difierent card at one or other of the windows.
An indicating device according to this invention is of the kind above mentioned but it is provided with at least two sets of indicating cards, plates or the like which normally move together when the device is turned so as to give simultaneously changing indications of, say, the day of the week and the day of the month. One set of the cards is in a casing separable from the rest of the device so that it can be removed and turned to efi'ect adjustment in the indications given by the two sets. This adjustment is necessary, in the case of a date indicator, on account of the various months having difi'erent numbers of day.
One construction of indicating device according to this invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, a date indicator or calendar being chosen by way of example. In these drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of the comr plete device;
Fig. 2 is a similar view with the parts separated;
Fig. 3 is a rear elevation partly in section; and
Figs. 4 and 5 are vertical transverse sections on the lines 4 -4 and 55 respectively of Fig. 3.
Like letters indicate like parts throughout the drawings.
With reference tothese figures, the main casing of the device comprises a box A with top and bottom portions A and A The box A is partially divided by a partition A (Figs. 3 and 5) into two compartments one above the other and containing a set of cards 418,194, and. in Germany January 26, 1929.
B bearing the names of the days of the week.
Sliding between the top and bottom parts A and A which project to the right-hand of the box A (Fig. 2) is a box or casing O also divided by a partition O (Figs. 3 and 4) into two compartments which contain cards D bearing the numbers of the days of th month.
Apertures or windows A and O are provided through which the indications are displayed. These apertures are, as shown in Fig. 1, at the lower part of the front of the two boxes or casings and similar apertures are provided at the back (see Fig. 3) in such a position that when the device'is inverted they occupy similar positions in the lower portion of what is then the front.
In normal use the whole device is turned each day end for end by means of the knurled names of the months.
These carriers slide in and out of frames F so that the cards may be easily changed when required.
The separable box or casing O is frictionally retained in position by springs at the top and bottom. One of these is shown at G in Fig. 3 and there is a similar spring at the other end of the casing. Portions of these two springs are shown in Fig. 4c.
The plates or covers A A fit into the top and bottom portions A and A and are anchored by springs H (Fig. 3). This is not an essential detail but it is convenient to have the plates readily removable and exchange-- able as they may bear advertising matter.
Obviously the indicating device may be made so that more than two sets of indications may be changed automatically by the turning of the device.
For instance there might be a third separable box or casing side by side with the boxes A and C, and that third box might contain cards bearing the names of the months instead of those names being on cards in the carrier F as illustrated.
While I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that in practice various alterations may be made therein. I, therefore, reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction or otherwise altering the arrangement of the correlated parts without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or the scope. of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. Anindieating deviceofthekind described for displaying variable information, having at least two sets of indicating members which normally move together when the device is turned, said device comprising a main section and section separable from the main section, one set of the indicating members being in the separable section to be turned therewith to effect adjustment of the indications given by the two sets of indicating members.
2. An indicating device of the kind described for displaying variable information, having at least two sets of indicating memers which normally move together when the device is turned, said device comprising a main section and a section separable from the main section, one set of the indicating members being in the separable section to be turned therewith to effect adjustment of the indications given by the two sets of indicating members, said separable section being arranged to have sliding engagement with the main section.
8. An indicating device of the kind described for displaying variable information, having at least two sets of indicating members which normally move together when the device is turned, said device comprising a main section and a section separable from the main section, one set of the indicating members being in the separable section to be turned therewith to effect adjustment of the indications given by the two sets of indicating members, said main section and separable section being reversible as an entity structure, and projecting alined knobs on said sections by which to turn them.
4. In an indicating device of the kind described, the combination with a main casing section containing a set of indicating members bearing the names of the days of the week, of a second casing section containing another set of indicating members bearing the numbers of the days of the month, the indicatin members of the two sets being normally changed sin'mltaneously by reversing the device as a whole and the two casing sec tions being separable so that one may be rotated independently of the other for the purpose described.
5. In an indicating device of the kind described, the combination with a main casing section containing a set of indicating members, of a second casing section contalning a set of cooperating indicating members, said second section being in the form of an insert section arranged to slide into the main section, means for detachably securing the second section in the main section, said sections when secured together being adapted to be moved together, the indicating members of the two sets being normally changed simultaneously by reversing the sections as a whole, and the second section when detached being reversible independently of the main section to effect adjustment in the relation of the indications given by the two sets of indicating members.
6. An indicating device of the kind described for displaying variable information, having at least two sets of indicating members which normally move together when the device is turned, said device comprising a main section and a section separable from the main section, one set of the indicating members being in the separable section to be turned therewith to effect adjustment of the indications given by the two sets of indicating members, and detachable top and bottom plates associated with the main section.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name hereto.
ADAM HINKEL.
