IMPROVEMENT IN BEDS'TEAD-FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 174,984, dated March 21, 1876 application filed June 5, 1875.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN W. STRONG, of Evansville,Vanderbnrg county, Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Bedstead-Fastening, of which the following is a specification Figure 1 represents a front view of my improved bedstead-iastening; Fig. 2, a vertical' longitudinal section of the same on the line as m, Fig. 1, showing connection of post and rail; Fig. 3, a horizontal section on the line 0 c, Fig. 2; and Fig. 4, a perspective view of the fastening as used for lighter work.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A dovetailed mortise, rounded at one end, is shown cut in the end of rail A, and a similar one in the side of post B. The mortises are reversed, the mouth of one being opposite the closed end of the other, so that the fastenings G (3 will interlock when inverted, as shown. Said fastenings exactly correspond in size and shape, each being constructed of side bars, (either inclined inward or beveled on the outer side, as shown in Fig. 3,) a central web, and an end cross-bar having hook-shaped extensions 0. When inserted in the mortises of the rail and post, the hooks of one fastening will project upward and the other downward, so that they will firmly interlock, as shown in Fig. 2. The fastenings are secured in the mortises by screws D, but the strain or pressure to which they are subjected is borne chiefly by the rounded ends which abut the correspondingly-shaped portion of mortise.
What I claim is- The fastening for bedsteads, formed of the beveled side bars and the central web and end cross-bar, having the front hook-shaped extension 0, as shown and described.
