l cHRIsTMAs-trnEE-ORNAMEN'I" FASTENER j Application filed March 23, 1929. Serial No. 349,302.
Thisfinvention relates generally to fasteners and 4has more particular reference to Christmas tree vornaments and light attachmentmeans. r The invention has for anobject the proviis of simple durable construction, desirable in use and efficient in action, andwhich can be manufactured and sold' at a reasonable cost.
AOne offthe objects ofy the'invention is` the provision of a device which is adapted to be conveniently` secured upon av branch of a Christmas tree `and which may be employed to support and suitably position several ornaments or lights. Another object of the invention is the provision of adjustable means which may be manipulated for suitably disposing the ornaments or lights in desired positions.
For further comprehension of the .invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and
i to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure Fig. 1 is an elevational View of a device constructed according to this invention.
Fig. 2 is an edge view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 but disclosing a modified form.
Figp/i is an edge view of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is an elevational View of the device constructed according to modified form, a portion thereof being shown in section.
Fig. 6 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 6-6 of Fig. 5.
Fig. 7 is a view similar to Fig. 5 but disclosing a further modied form.
The reference numeral 10 indicates 'generally a circula-r top ring of a fastening device Y formed of one piece of resilient wire, this ring being open at the bottom as indicated by reference numeral 11 and wire arms 12 connecting with the ring at its opened portion. These wire arms are curved outwardly as indicated by numerals 13forming a belly portion and one of the arms terminate in aninclined end 14 providing an entrance 15 to'` the-said fbelly portion. 1 Thev other armiv terminates in a loop 16 `formedat right angles tothe "plane of the ring 10. The belly portion may be engaged upon a branch of a: Christmas tree and a Christmaslight or ornament may be supported within the ring,Y the hoolrlmay be used to support alight or any Vother Christmasornament.
` in theymodiiied form of theidevice` illus-V trated'in Figs.' 3 and 4, a fastening means has beenshown composed of two pieces=of wire indicated by numerals 17 and 18,1espectively.` y These wires `are twisted togetherat their central` portions as at 19,jthe topl por-` tions of the wires being curved toformv gripping arms "and a gripping opening'205 while the portion immediately below the twisted portion19 is bulged as at'2'1 to form a 4belly portion, oneof the wires continuing and is curved around formingahook 22.` The hook 22fis disposed' inthe 'same-plane as lthe plane of the gripping arms 20.1The gripping arms 20 maybe engagedzupon a'branch of a Christmas tree or may support a Christmas light or ornament andthe belly portion and hook portion 22 may also support lights orl ornaments.r t' c f.-
In 'the' modifiedf form :of the device illusl trat'edin Figs. 5 and 6,?a fastening means has been; shown provided' with? a 'central twisted portion'19 formed'of 'a top and bottom'section,l thetop'section being secured upon a topV disc 23 `and the Ybottom section on a bottomI disc 211. `,Th adjacent facesof these 'discsr have interen'gaged teeth 25.` A spring clip 26 is' arranged'fory holding the discs togethery with Atheir teeth interengaged. The 'spring Clip 26 consists of radial arms ,27 formed withy an aperture`28 at their, junctions'thru which the twisted isection.19.` `passes and each `arm Y has an inturned bottom end 29 engaging against the bottomA surface. ofy the bottom d isc 24.5 Forchjanging'the lplanes in which the hook- 22 and the arms 17, 18 are arranged `itis merely necessary to slightly pull the discs 23 and-24C apart'and'rotatezthem to any desired iilnmediately reengaged by the said spring c 1ps.
In the modified form of the device illustrated in Fig. 7, the fastening device is formed with a top pair of curved gripping arms 17, 18 connected with a twisted section 19 which is secured upon a top disc 23. This top disc coacts with a bottom disc 24 held in interengaged positions by a spring clip 26, said discs having interengaged teeth 25.
A small belly portion hook 21 is secured upon the bottom side of the lower disc 24 and supports a third disc 23 having teeth 25 interengaged with complimentary teeth o n a kfourth disc 24:. A spring clip 26 resiliently holds thse discs together. A hook 22 is arranged upon the bottom side of the disc 24. The planes of the arms 17, 18 and the belly portion 21 maybe adjusted by drawing the discs 23 and 24 slightly apart against the action of the spring clip 26, and performing` In ay the necessary circular adjustments. similar manner the plane of the hook 22 may be changed relative to the plane of members 21 and 17, 18 by drawing the discs 23, 24 apart and rotate these discs relatively to any desired amount. The spring clip 26 will urge the discs together upon a releasing of the same. e
While I have shown and described the pre-r ferred embodiment of my invention, it is to beiunderstood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the' right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined inthe appended claims. v Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is 1.Inv a fastening deviceV of the class described, a hook comprising resilient wire adapted to be disposed over a branch of a Christmas tree, a disc attached to one'extremity Aof said hook, a second disc disposed Aadjacent said first mentioned disc in supermember comprising resilient wire material attached to f said second Ymentioned disc adapted to support a Christmas tree light socket, and interengaging teeth on the adjacent surfaces ofsaid discs for retaining the same in an adjusted position, said discs being adapted to be separated for disengaging the teeth thereof.
2. In a'fastening device of the class described, a hook comprising resilient wire adapted to be disposed over a branch of a- Christmas tree, a disc attached to one ex# tremity of said hook, a secondv disc disposed adjacent said'first mentionedY disc in superimposed relation thereto, a spring clip mounted on said first mentioned disc and engaged with said second mentioned disc for rotatively securing said discs in superimposed relation andurging the discs together, a hook member on said second disc and adapted to support a Christmas tree light socket, and said discs beingarranged for retaining adjusted positions.
3. In a fastening device of the class described, a hook comprising resilient Wire adapted to be disposed over a branch of a Christmas tree, a disc attached to one extremity `of said hook, a second disc disposed adjacent said first mentioned disc in superimposed relation thereto and for urging the discs together, means for rotatively securing said discs in superimposed relation, a second hook member comprising resilient wire material attached'to said second mentioned disc adapted to support a Christmas tree light socket, and interengaging teeth on the adjacent surfaces of said discs for retaining the same in an adjusted position, said discs beingadapted to be separated against the action of said means for disengaging the teeth thereof.
In testimony whereof I have aixed my signature.
FRANK FISHER.
